HELSTROM Set To Premiere October 16; First Trailer Teases A Creepy Departure For Marvel TV

Image

On the hoofs (sorry) of a batch of promo images, the first teaser trailer for Hulu’s Helstrom is now online after debuting at the show’s Comic-Con@Home panel. We also got an official premiere date of October 16.

The Footage introduces supernatural siblings Daimon (Tom Austen) and Ana (Sydney Lemmon) Helstrom, who are the son and daughter of a powerful serial killer and a very creepy institutionalized mother, Victoria (Elizabeth Marvel). Daimon is an ethics professor by day, but unleashes his dark side as a demon hunter at night. Ana works as an auctioneer, but has also dedicated her evenings to hunting down those who would pray on the weak.

Tonally, this definitely seems like a big departure from anything we’ve seen from Marvel TV in the past, and it actually looks quite promising. Plus, the teaser gets bonus points for utilizing Peter Gabriel’s cover of My Body Is a Cage.

Check out the trailer below along with the previously released stills, and let us know what you think in the comments.

Helstrom, which will debut as part of the “Huluween” lineup along with Books of Blood, Bad Hair, and Monsterland, will be the last remnant from the Jeph Loeb era of “Marvel Television.” The show will focus on Daimon and Ana Helstrom, the son and daughter of “a mysterious and powerful serial killer,” who track down “the terrorizing worst of humanity.”

In the comics, Daimon Hellstrom, a.k.a. Hellstorm, is the literal son of Satan, so this is clearly going to be quite a loose adaptation.

Do you guys plan on checking out Helstrom this October?

THE AVENGERS And JUSTICE LEAGUE Director Joss Whedon’s Comic-Con@Home Panel Removed From Schedule

Image

“A Zoom With Joss Whedon” was scheduled for Comic-Con@Home at 5pm PT today, but it’s been unexpectedly pulled from the virtual event’s schedule. Whereas other cancelled panels are still listed but with a message revealing that they’re no longer happening, this one has just vanished.

If you try to visit its page on the event’s website, you get an error page, and the YouTube link remains private.

Very little had been revealed about Whedon’s panel, but it was thought he would address his career as well as upcoming HBO series, The Nevers. The unexplained disappearance comes weeks after Justice League star Ray Fisher levelled some pretty serious allegations at the filmmaker about his behaviour on the set of the DC Comics movie’s reshoots.

However, with this panel being pre-recorded and not taking live questions from fans, there’s really no reason to think Whedon would have to address that or anything else he didn’t want to.

It’s possible the filmmaker is just looking to keep a low profile until the bad press surrounding Justice League – which has only worsened since it was revealed that Zack Snyder’s cut is coming to HBO Max – calms down a little. As of now, Whedon hasn’t ever really commented on the work he did on the movie.

For now, that will continue to be the case, and we’ll let you know if this panel’s disappearance is explained.

THE WALKING DEAD Season 10 Finale Gets An Air Date And Sneak Peek; Big Update On Season 11 Plans

Image

During The Walking Dead‘s Comic-Con@Home panel, it was confirmed that the delayed season 10 finale will air on AMC on October 4th. A sneak peek was also released, and that shows a massive gathering of the undead alongside the revenge-hungry Whisperers. You can check that out by watching the video below for the full panel.

In terms of news, it’s obviously an uncertain time right now, but October does look set to be a big month for The Walking Dead franchise if what few details this panel revealed are any indication.

This finale will be followed by the premiere of The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and looking ahead to the future, it was said that there won’t be a season 11 in 2020; instead, AMC is working on an “extended” season 10 which will include at least six additional episodes which are currently on track to air on the network early next year.

A synopsis for the season 10 finale reveals little saying only that, “Beta engages the final battle of the Whisperer War.” The episode – titled “A Certain Doom” was directed by Greg Nicotero, with a story by  Jim Barnes, Eli Jorné, and Corey Reed, and teleplay by Reed.

Are you excited for the return of The Walking Dead

THE NEW MUTANTS Has A Surprisingly Short Runtime, But Deleted Scenes Will Be Released Says Josh Boone

Image

We had heard this might be a possibility, but in a recent interview with Collider, The New Mutants director Josh Boone confirmed that the movie will boast a surprisingly short runtime. This doesn’t usually bode well for a blockbuster, but the filmmaker actually explained the reasoning behind it.

“I think it’s 98 minutes or something like that,” Boone revealed. “It was never more than 104 even at its longest.” Apparently, the original cut was around twenty minutes longer. “We put together all the deleted scenes for everybody. It was more just stuff that was too funny or tonally just didn’t quite go together, but it’s cute character moments that I think fans will like.”

Looking at this from a common sense perspective, Disney could have decided to shorten the runtime in order to save money as The New Mutants had unfinished visual effects when they acquired Fox, and depending on how much work was required for these twenty minutes, they could have saved millions of dollars cutting them.

As for those deleted scenes, we have no idea when and where they will ultimately be released.

Regardless, Boone went on to explain that a big part of the hold up with the movie has been the fact he was only three quarters of the way into editing it, and that Andrew Buckland helped him finish it as original editors Matthew Dunnell and Rob Sullivan were busy working on The Stand (which Boone directed).

Right now, The New Mutants has a release date of August 28th, but whether it will actually end up playing in theaters is obviously unclear given everything that’s happening in the world right now.

STAR WARS: Darth Maul Rumored For Multiple Disney+ Shows; Possible OBI-WAN Start Date Revealed

Image

There have been quite a few Star Wars rumors doing the rounds over the past couple of weeks, and these latest reports relate to a couple of characters fans have been anxious to see return to the galaxy far, far away for quite a while.

First up, The Direct has heard that a Darth Maul series is in the works at Disney+, and the character is expected to feature in “multiple” shows over the next few years. The former Sith Lord made a memorable appearance at the end of Solo: A Star Wars Story, and it’s assumed that his show will take place after the events of that movie. Emilia Clarke’s duplicitous Qi’ra  is said to “feature prominently in the series.”

In addition, The Illuminderdi reports that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is scheduled to commence production in Los Angeles next March. Most big productions have been forced to restrict filming to closed sets because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but the untitled Obi-Wan show is expected to make use of The Volume – the virtual filming environment that was so integral to first season of The Mandalorian.

Ewan McGregor will return as the former Jedi Master, and there are rumors that Hayden Christensen may reprise the role of Anakain Skywalker/Darth Vader. Deborah Chow (The Mandalorian) will direct all of the first seasons episodes from a script by Joby Harold (Bumblebee).

What do you guys make of these latest Star Wars rumors? Drop us a comment in the usual place.
