Comic-Con@Home has been taking place this weekend and, for the most part, it’s been a pretty underwhelming affair. That’s evident from the fact that fan-organised events “Justice Con” and “SaveDaredevilCon” have been gaining more attention online, but it’s one panel, in particular, that could prove to be most shocking (and not for good reasons). 

For those of you who were left feeling underwhelmed by the way The Hand were, well, handled in Daredevil, actor Peter Shinkoda – who played their leader Nobu – has alleged that former Marvel Television boss Jeph Loeb was responsible as he chose to veto Asian storylines and characters.

“Jeph Loeb told the writer’s room not to write for Nobu and Gao, and this was reiterated many times by many of the writers and showrunners, that nobody cares about Chinese people and Asian people,” the actor explains. “There was three previous Marvel movies, a trilogy called Blade, where Wesley Snipes kills 200 Asians each movie, nobody gives a ****, so don’t write about Nobu and Gao. And they were forced to put their storyline down and drop it.”

“I am privy to that storyline, they explained it to me, and they were very apologetic that they couldn’t go through with it, but their hands were tied,” Shinkoda continues. “It was a very interesting storyline about having to go [to New York] under the guise of getting some kind of transplant for medical reasons, and it was a lot of paperwork and bureaucracy was fudged, so that Nobu could get into the country and then carry out his Black Sky plans. But all that backstory was dropped, and the writers that told me they were reluctant to do it because they were so stoked about the storyline, but they were prevented. So I had to concoct this other storyline and then rock that material that I was given. Regretfully, I didn’t get to ever explore that.”

Quite frankly, that’s disgusting if true, and it could go some way in explaining why Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has no interest in working with Loeb now he’s in charge of the stories that play out on television. Loeb’s legacy has been one of rating disappointments, cancelled TV shows, and critical flops like Iron Fist and Inhumans.

Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi recently confirmed that he’s “doing another pas” on the final draft of the script, and star Natalie Portman has now provided an update on when cameras are expected to start rolling on the highly anticipated Marvel threequel.

While interviewing tennis superstar Serena Williams (via The Direct) about the National Women’s Soccer League team they co-own competing in L.A., the Academy Award-winner mentioned that the COVID-19-related delays have given her “more time to, you know, get jacked,” before adding that she’s “got the carbo loading down but not the leg exercises.”

As we know, Portman is getting fighting fit because her character, Jane Foster, be lifting Mjölnir as the new God of Thunder in Waititi’s follow-up to Thor: Ragnarok. The movie is currently set for release in 2022, and it sounds like production is still on track for early 2021.

Portman went on to express how excited she is to return to The MCU, and confirmed that she’ll be “shooting in Australia at the beginning of next year.” Another Marvel Studios movie, Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, recently resumed filming down under after becoming one of the first major projects to halt production because of the pandemic.

Aside from Foster taking up the mantle of Thor, plot details for Love and Thunder remain a closely guarded secret, but we do know that Christian Bale is on board (most likely as a villain), and Valkyrie’s (Tessa Thompson) search for a Queen will also factor into the plot.

In a deleted scene from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor was shown meeting with Steppenwolf in the remains of that Kryptonian ship. In Zack Snyder’s Justice League, it’s thought that we’ll get to see more of their relationship, while Ray Porter will be playing Darkseid in both the past and present.

That’s led to a lot of speculation about whether Lex will communicate with the ruler of Apokolips as well, but during Justice Con’s “Spotlight on Ray Porter” panel, the actor cleared things up.

Asked directly whether he shot any scenes with Eisenberg, Porter responded: “I didn’t no. I admire him a great deal as an actor, but I did not get to work with him, no.” That’s the end of that then, though it’s no great surprise given what we’ve heard about the limited role Darkseid will play here. 

It’s believed that he will only appear in those flashbacks to the battle between his forces and men, Atlanteans, and Amazons, as well as nearer the end of the movie when Steppenwolf is defeated.

A proper look at Darkseid still hasn’t been revealed, but with the first trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League set to be revealed at DC FanDome next month, that could change very soon. For now, though, we can discount seeing a meeting between Darkseid and Lex Luthor in the 2021 HBO Max release.

It’s been seven years since Man of Steel was released, but fans still debate that shocking ending which saw Superman forced to break General Zod’s neck (killing him) in order to stop the villain for good. While Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice brought the villain’s body back – to transform him into Doomsday – not much was said about Kal-El being forced to dole out some lethal justice.

During an interview with Collider, Man of Steel writer David S. Goyer explained that Superman being forced to kill Zod was meant to show that he was backed into a corner which he simply could not get out of. Explaining that this was a Superman who had only just taken flight, the filmmaker made it clear that the hero hadn’t established a set of rules yet (unlike his comic book counterpart). 

“He’s not aware of the extent of his powers at all,” Goyer said. “He’s finding somebody who’s said, ‘I won’t stop,’ who’s said, ‘You can’t put me in a prison I won’t ever stop’. We wanted to put him in a stalemate.” As controversial as that may have been, Zod’s death was supposed to mean Superman would never kill again. “He was in this terrible position and then afterwards he vowed that he could never do it again. It didn’t come out of anger – he was forced into it – but that was the one.”

For those of you still unhappy with that, Goyer did go on to reveal a scrapped, alternate ending. 

“The idea was that Superman would – there was one of those sort of cryopods on the ship that ends up becoming the Fortress of Solitude that he’s able to put Zod back into and then throw out into space,” he noted. “We did talk about it and maybe some people would’ve been happier with that, but it felt like a cop out for the story that we were telling.”

That honestly doesn’t sound great, and it is surprising that Man of Steel‘s ending continues to be so divisive, especially when the hero was put in a position where that really was his only choice.

Zack Snyder has been given the opportunity to put the finishing touches to his version of Justice League, and the movie will be released on the HBO Max streaming service next year. Details have been slowly trickling out ever since WarnerMedia’s plans to share the filmmaker’s vision were made official, but it sounds like all eyes should be on next month’s DC FanDome event.

In the Q&A below, Snyder was asked about the title and whether Zack Snyder’s Justice League is what it will be called when the movie arrives on HBO Max. 

“You know it’s really…the name of the movie as ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ is the name that we all want,” he explained. “It’s the name we are working on. It’s legal reasons that restrict it, but we’re trying to work that out. I suppose that’s the cool name for it.” He didn’t clarify what those issues might be, but it’s likely related to trademark or copyright issues. 

As for whether his Justice League will be presented as a massive movie or a limited series, Snyder promised that the answer to that question is coming at DC FanDome. “You will, you’ll find out at FanDome. But I think I did tell Grace that it was longer than 214 [minutes now]. Either way, a hundred percent I’ll be happy. Look, the truth is, regardless of how it comes out, you’ll always be able to watch it [in one sitting].”

Finally, Snyder confirmed that the first teaser trailer for Justice League will be released during DC’s virtual show, and that means it won’t be too much longer until we see the filmmaker’s true vision.
