GODZILLA VS. KONG Action Figures Reveal A New Weapon For Skull Island’s Resident Kaiju

Image

Godzilla vs. Kong was supposed to be released this year, but COVID-19 has changed all of Warner Bros.’ plans and pushed the highly anticipated crossover to 2021. Had things been a little more normal, we probably would have been anticipating an action-packed new trailer at Comic-Con next Saturday, but the studio won’t be taking part in Comic-Con@Home.

Despite that, merchandise for the Kong: Skull Island/Godzilla: King of the Monsters follow-up continues finding its way online, and thanks to the folks over at Godzilla-Movies.com, we have a first look at action figures for both iconic monsters.

Kong looks pretty much the same he did the last time we saw him, but the giant-sized Kong is wielding a brand-new weapon you have to believe he will end up using in his battles against Godzilla (after all, he doesn’t have that beast’s powers, and instead relies on brute strength).

With these toys comes a brief new plot synopsis that reads, “Legends collide as Godzilla and Kong, the two most powerful forces of nature, clash in a spectacular battle for the ages! The monster war rages on the surface and deep within our world as the spectacular secret realm of the titans known as the Hollow Earth is revealed!”

BLACK WIDOW Promo Art Reveals Plenty Of Badass New Shots Of Scarlett Johansson’s Super Spy

Image

Originally set to be released back in May, Black Widow is now coming our way this November (on the day we were supposed to be watching Eternals, a movie we haven’t seen anything official from at this stage). There are lots of reports about theaters not reopening this side of next summer, but nothing has been confirmed, and Tenet still has that – somewhat optimistic? – August release date.

We can only hope that we do get to see Black Widow this side of Christmas, but with that current release date fast approaching, some new promo art has surfaced courtesy of listings on Hot Topic.

While the pause button has definitely been hit on the movie’s marketing campaign, it is good to see stuff like this out there, and is something for fans to get excited about as they eagerly await Black Widow‘s release. Should theaters remain shut, it’s possible it could debut on Disney+, but also highly unlikely given how much money Disney would ultimately lose.

Recently, we heard that two new trailers had been classified, but it was later reported that they’re only being shown in theaters, and that they feature little in the way of new footage. Still, we’re bound to see new content from Black Widow at some point, even if Marvel Studios is skipping Comic-Con@Home.

THE WALKING DEAD Producers Share An Update On Where Things Stand With RICK GRIMES Movie

Image

The Walking Dead was once one of the biggest TV shows on the planet, but the interest of fans started to wane, and while it still does respectable numbers, it’s hard to say whether plans for a big screen spinoff revolving around Rick Grimes will prove to be a box office hit. Production has been paused due to COVID-19, of course, so where do things currently stand with the movie?

“We’re coming along in a big way. We’re just in this particular space where we have [to wait],” the Skybound Entertainment co-founder David Alpert said during a virtual Skybound Xpo panel (via ComicBook.com). “We can’t shoot right now, so that’s just the big thing holding us back.”

“We are desperate to get back into production, and get everything going,” he continued, “but we have something really exciting, really unique, really different, and can’t wait to get it going. We just have to wait for it to be safe.”

As you might expect, The Walking Dead comic book writer and TV series producer Robert Kirkman is also heavily involved in the project, and he promised fans tuning in that they remain hard at work on continuing Rick’s story. “There’s tons of stuff going on behind the scenes. I don’t want anyone to think that we’re just kind of waiting around for this pandemic to end.”

“I would say that, if anything, the pandemic is going to make a lot of movies better. I think the Rick Grimes movie chief among them, just because we’re getting a lot more time to cook this thing and make sure it’s perfect. But when things do quiet down, you guys are going to hear a ton more about this movie,” Kirkman concluded.

This is definitely a positive update, and this week’s Comic-Con@Home is expected to deliver updates on both The Walking Dead‘s return and season ten premiere date. With that in mind, it’s highly likely we could get some more intel on where things stand with this Rick Grimes movie during that event.

Stay tuned!

JOHN WICK Star Keanu Reeves Is Writing His Own Comic Book Called BRZRKR & It Sounds F***ing Insane

Image

Ahead of next week’s Comic Con at Home, USA Today has dropped a pretty major comic book scoop as they’ve unveiled a first look at BOOM! Studios’ BRZRKR, an upcoming 12-issue limited series from the one and only Keanu Reeves (John Wick; Speed; The Matrix).

The official plot synopsis reads, “The man known only as Berzerker is half-mortal and half-God, cursed and compelled to violence…even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the world for centuries, Berzerker may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, Berzerker will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it.

Reeves initially met with BOOM! last year to discuss them possibly creating new material for live-action projects that he would presumably star in, but their meeting changed coursed when he pitched them his concept for what would eventually become BRZRKR.

It’s uncertain whether the series could become a live-action film down the line, but with BOOM! already having a first look deal in place with Netflix, it’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility and it sounds like Reeves is more than onboard with the idea. He enthusiastically tells the newspaper, “I’d love to play Berzerker! It’s a really fun story so if it’s not me, hopefully someone can play it.

BRZRKR will be rolled out monthly, starting October 7, and features New York Times bestseller Matt Kindt (Folklords, Bang!) as his co-writer with acclaimed artist Alessandro Vitti (Marvel’s Secret Warriors), colorist Bill Crabtree (BRPD), and letterer Clem Robins (Hellboy) also attached.

Discover the First-Ever Original Comic Book Series from the Star of ‘John Wick’ and ‘The Matrix’ in October 2020

BOOM! Studios is proud to announce BRZRKR, a twelve-issue limited series from the iconic Keanu Reeves in his Must Read comic book writing debut alongside New York Times bestselling co-writer Matt Kindt (Folklords, Bang!) and acclaimed artist Alessandro Vitti (Marvel’s Secret Warriors), colorist Bill Crabtree (BRPD), and letterer Clem Robins (Hellboy) in a brutally violent new series about one immortal warrior’s fight through the ages. BRZRKR #1 will debut in comic shops October 2020.

The man known only as Berzerker is half-mortal and half-God, cursed and compelled to violence…even at the sacrifice of his sanity.

“I have loved comics since I was a young kid and they have been a significant influence on me artistically,” said Reeves. “To have the chance to create BRZRKR and collaborate with legends in the industry like writer Matt Kindt, artist Alessandro Vitti, color artist Bill Crabtree, letterer Clem Robins, and conceptual/cover artist Rafael Grampá – along with the great folks at BOOM! Studios – is a dream come true.”

Matt Kindt is the New York Times bestselling writer and artist of the comics and graphic novels Dept. H, Mind MGMT, Revolver, 3 Story, Super Spy, 2 Sisters, and Pistolwhip, as well as the writer of Folklords, Black Badge, and the Eisner Award-nominated Grass Kings with BOOM! Studios, Bang! and Ether with Dark Horse Comics, Justice League of America with DC Comics, Spider-Man with Marvel Comics, and Unity, Ninjak, Rai, and Divinity with Valiant Comics. He has won the PubWest book design award, been nominated for six Eisner Awards, and six Harvey Awards (and won once). His work has been published in French, Spanish, Italian, German, and Korean.

“The best collaborations have each partner bringing something unique to the table. Wth BRZRKR we mixed a potent cocktail of all the things that we love: the tale of an immortal warrior laced with history, conspiracies, spirituality, and a gigantic helping of bonkers action and violence — all with intense purpose and ultimately a heartbreaking discovery.” said Kindt.

Alessandro Vitti is a comic book artist from Italy who is known for his work with publishers in Italy, France, and the United States. Vitti has worked on Brendon and Saguaro for Italian publisher Sergio Bonelli Editore. He was the artist for Secret Warriors with Jonathan Hickman and Iceman with Sina Grace, as well as several other hit series for Marvel Entertainment, Hardcore with Andy Diggle for Skybound, Suiciders: Kings of HelL.A. with Lee Bermejo for Vertigo, and Red Lanterns with Charles Soule for DC Comics. Vitti is also the co-creator of Red Dread with Matteo Strukul, published by Lateral Studio.

“I was visiting New York when BOOM! Studios reached out to me about BRZRKR and as soon as I saw that I would be working with Matt Kindt and Keanu Reeves, I was jumping with excitement because I knew that this would be an incredible experience,” said Vitti. “And I was right! This series has everything I love to draw, and I can’t wait for it to hit stores so we can share it with all of you!”

BRZRKR #1 features main cover art by superstar illustrator Rafael Grampá (Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child), as well as variant cover art by Vitti and artist Mark Brooks (Star Wars: Han Solo). Fans who attend the BOOM! Studios Discover Yours Panel on July 26, 11am PT, at Comic-Con@Home will get a very special preview of never-before-seen interior art as well as behind-the-scenes information about the series and what’s in store for readers! More details at www.comic-con.org/.

“Keanu is a creative force like no other and it’s been a once-in-a-lifetime experience collaborating on his first-ever comic book series,” said Matt Gagnon, Editor-in-Chief, BOOM! Studios. “The great Matt Kindt, one of my absolute favorite creators, is working hand in glove with Keanu on scripts, the brilliant Alessandro Vitti is illustrating this series in brutally exquisite detail, and the always-phenomenal Rafael Grampá is delivering searing covers. BRZRKR is a visceral, masterly crafted comic book epic.”

Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers like comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and Madefire.
