THE INVISIBLE MAN Is The New #1 On DEG’s Watched At Home Top 20; JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL Cracks The Top 3

Image

As many major theater chains remain closed indefinitely and no major releases on the horizon, DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group introduced the “Watched at Home Top 20” list earlier this year, which tallies up the most popular titles consumed on disc and digital (excluding outside subscription-based streaming platforms).

After a four-week reign on top, Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog has dipped to #2 while Universal’s The Invisible Man has moved up into the top position. The top five actually saw more reshuffling as Sony’s Jumanji: The Next Level jumped up to third, followed by Yellowstone (Season 1) in fourth and Warner Bros.’ Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) fell to fifth.

Both seasons of Paramount’s Yellowstone actually made the top ten – a first for any television series this year – likely getting a boost from last week’s third season premiere. Several other top films continued to perform well and the Harry Potter complete 8-film collection also reentered the Top 20.

For the week of June 25, here is the ‘Watched at Home Top 20’ list:

  1. The Invisible Man (Universal, 2020)
  2. Sonic the Hedgehog (Paramount)
  3. Jumanji: The Next Level (Sony)
  4. Yellowstone: S1 (Paramount)
  5. Birds of Prey: Harley Quinn (WB)
  6. The Hunt (Universal)
  7. Bad Boys for Life (Sony)
  8. 1917 (Universal)
  9. Bloodshot (Sony, 2020)
  10. Yellowstone: S2 (Paramount)
  11. The Call of the Wild (Disney, 2020)
  12. The Gentlemen (STX/Universal, 2019)
  13. Star Wars: Episode IX – Skywalker (Disney)
  14. Spies in Disguise (Fox)
  15. Fantasy Island (Sony, 2020)
  16. Onward (Disney)
  17. Dolittle (Universal)
  18. Harry Potter (WB, Complete 8-film Collection)
  19. Ford v Ferrari (Fox)
  20. I Still Believe (Lionsgate)

JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION Casts TASM Actor Campbell Scott As A Character From The Original JURASSIC PARK

Image

With Universal all set to resume filming on July 6th, Collider is reporting that Campbell Scott (The Amazing Spider-Man; The Amazing Spider-Man 2) has joined the cast of Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World: Dominion as Lewis Dodgson.

The character of Dodgson (then played by now-convicted sex offender Cameron Thor) was initially introduced in the original Jurassic Park – he was the mysterious man in a red shirt and sunglasses who tasked Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight) with stealing the dinosaur embryos from Isla Nublar via a fake Barbasol can. However, after everything went wrong on the island, he was never seen nor heard from again despite playing a big part in Michael Crichton’s sequel novel The Lost World.

In the upcoming sixthquel, Dodgson will now be the CEO of Biosyn Genetics, which should be a familiar name to book readers as the company featured prominently in both novels, serving as a chief rival to John Hammond’s InGen. For now, it remains unclear whether Dodgson will be the film’s primary antagonist, but things do seem to be trending in that direction.

Also, while unconfirmed, it seems quite likely that Biosyn was the mysterious organization backing Dr. Henry Wu in the last film and may ultimately be the organization that brings the original Jurassic trio out of retirement as they race to stop whatever world-dominating plot the shady organization may have planned.

The star-studded cast of Jurassic World: Dominion will feature Jurassic alums Chris Pratt (Owen Grady), Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire Dearing), 3x Golden Globe-nominee Sam Neill (Alan Grant), Academy Award-winner Laura Dern (Ellie Sattler), Academy Award-nominee Jeff Goldblum (Ian Malcolm), Jake Johnson (Lowery Cruthers), Omar Sy (Barry Sembane), Justice Smith (Franklin Webb), Daniella Pineda (Zia Rodriguez), Isabella Sermon (Maisie Lockwood), and BD Wong (Dr. Henry Wu).

Newcomers to the franchise include Mamoudou Athie (Sorry for Your Loss), DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It), Dichen Lachman (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Scott Haze (Venom). Details on their roles are currently being kept under wraps.

Jurassic World: Dominion is tentatively slated to roar into theaters June 11, 2021.

RUN WITH THE HUNTED Exclusive Clip And Interview With Ron Perlman On Marvel Movies, MONSTER HUNTER, & More

Image

Run With The Hunted is set to be released On Demand on Friday, June 26, and revolves around Oscar, a young boy who commits a noble murder and is forced to run away from his rural hometown, leaving behind his best friend, Loux. 15 years later, he has forgotten his past and become the leader of a band of lost children, and Loux takes it upon herself to find the boy who saved her life.

The legendary Ron Perlman stars in the movie alongside a superb cast which includes Michael Pitt, Sam Quartin, Mark Boone Junior, William Forsythe, and Dree Hemingway, and he was kind enough to recently sit down to discuss his role as Birdie in the film, not to mention being asked back to play Big Red in the Hellboy reboot and his interest in starring in a live-action Tangled movie.

As well as delving into his Run With The Hunted role, Ron also talks to us about whether he’s planning a return to the comic book movie genre, and his upcoming role in blockbuster Monster Hunter.

Oh, and if that’s not enough for you, Vertical Entertainment has also supplied us with an exclusive clip from the film which features a tense exchange between Birdie, Sway, and the young Oscar.

Hey Ron, how’s it going today?

We’ve been waiting for you for two hours…where the f*ck have you been?

Oh man, please don’t say that – you’re gonna stress me out before we even get started! [Laughs]

No, no, actually, we were just getting ready to wait for you, but your timing is perfect.

Phew, that’s okay then. So, I loved this film and was wondering, as an experienced actor, what was it like for you working with Run With The Hunted‘s young cast members?

Well, you’re always working with a wide swathe of cast members ranging from kids to young adults to adults to…people like me: old farts and old timers. You basically are there to interact with their humanity regardless of what it is, who it is, what their age is, or what their life situation is. That has nothing to do with the job at hand which is to see what they’re bringing and counteract it in a way that sheds light on what the director is looking for in the film.

One scene that really jumped out at me was the conversation in the car with Peaches which gave you the chance to really shed some light on Birdie’s motivations and his view on life. What was that like to shoot and did you relish the chance to give him a little more emotional depth?

I really like characters that you cannot categorise because there’s just too many facets or elements to them that are at odds with one another to say that they’re one thing or another. I think those are the most interesting characters to watch on screen and certainly, from my point of view, the most interesting ones to play. I saw that particular scene as an opportunity to say, ‘You know, as much as I’m running a business here and I’m kicking ass and I don’t have time to tolerate indulgences of any kind or things that are going to take away from my bottom line, every once in a while, I have a fondness for some of the people I work with.’ In this case, this conversation was a way for him to express that fondness, and I found that it humanised the guy so to not make him like this moustache twirling villain.

Peaches + Birdie

A post shared by RUN WITH THE HUNTED (@rwthmovie) on

With a 15-year time-jump like the one we see here, what sort of challenges does that present to you as an actor to pick up with a character after so much time has passed?

For me, it was not nearly as much of a challenge as it was for the younger actors who had to straddle the fact there were sometimes two actors playing the same character. Those guys had to do all the heavy lifting of figuring out how to honour each other’s work to the point where it seemed they were seamlessly one human. When you meet Birdie in the early going, he’s already what he is. He’s already fully formed, and so in the 15-year jump, there’s not much that changes other than he maybe slows down a little bit. His worldview is the same, his thinking is the same, his modus operandi is the same, so there wasn’t a great deal of real hard adjusting for me when it came to that 15-year gap.

Did you do a lot of research looking into the world of child exploitation Birdie runs, and how difficult do you find it as an actor to step into the shoes of someone like that?

The kind of a character this is, I felt it was completely up to me to figure out who he was and what his history was, and what informs the man you come to meet when you meet him on screen. So, no, the only research was me doing the work of figuring out his humanity and where he grew up and what made him the way he is, and how he formed the values that are represented in his actions. This is not one of those pictures where you’ve got to go do a lot of research and find the model for the character because it’s somebody that actually existed. This is a made up character, so the imagination is where all the research happens.

You’ve worked with a lot of different filmmakers over the years, but can you talk us through your experience working with director John Swab on Run With The Hunted?

Well, he loved what he was doing! I thought he wrote a real interesting story, and was very enthusiastic about getting it on the screen. Getting a movie made is so hard. By the time you hit the set, you’ve pretty much had the snot beat out of you, so there’s a kind of relief that comes with, ‘Okay, we’re actually doing this. We actually have a cast, a schedule, scenes we’re going to shoot in a certain kind of order.’ He was in a great mood because he had climbed all the big mountains and was there doing it. It was obviously a story that meant a great deal to him because he wrote it, and God only knows how long he took to do that. I found the guy who was just so enthusiastic and excited, engaged, and thrilled with watching you interpret what he had put on the page and bring life to it. It was a good experience.

On another note, in terms of comic book movie roles, have you ever met with Marvel or DC and are those something that would be of interest to you?

Uh, no. No, I basically have been so blessed with what has fallen out of the sky into my lap that I basically just wait to see what the Gods have intended for me next. I’m not really developing anything in that world.

I’m hoping to talk to Vinnie Jones soon about your movie The Big Ugly, so was wondering what you could tell our readers to expect from that one?

Vinnie Jones. Ron Perlman. Malcolm McDowell. C’mon. There’s gonna be some testosterone blowing.

I actually got to watch it a few weeks ago, and loved it. It’s a real kick-ass sort of film.

I loved it too. I loved working with Vinnie. He’s the one who produced the film, and basically talked all of his friends into considering being in it. I’m just lucky enough to be on that list, and that’s how I got involved. I love how it turned out, I loved the experience of working with Vinnie. We had known each other for years and years and years, but never worked with each other, so it was kind of a dream come true, and he’s quite a bloke, as you might say!

Going back to Run With The Hunted, on a smaller budgeted film like this, what is the shooting schedule like and how difficult is that for you to handle?

Well, you don’t have the time or money you do on a big film, so whenever you’re working on one of these smaller films, you’ve gotta get it done and get a lot done every day and you’re not going to be out of town working on it as long as you might if you were working on a huge studio film, so it’s very concentrated, but whenever you go to work, it’s all about how much enthusiasm you have for the world that’s being depicted in the film, and how much you love the writing, and how eager you are to mix it up with the other actors once the cameras are rolling.

Having worked in television for such a long time, is it fun for you to be able to come on to a project like this and be able to get it done in a much shorter span?

Well, that and the fact I have an incredibly short concentration span which you can probably tell from this interview. [Laughs] I really like jobs that don’t keep me out of my living room for very long.

Finally, with theaters still closed, are you looking forward to the day people can watch a movie like Run With The Hunted on the big screen, or are you a fan of the way films like this can be shared directly into people’s homes?

I’m not sure there was ever a plan for a really huge theatrical release for Run With The Hunted. These smaller films seem to fare better on Video On Demand and that kind of thing where people find them in their own homes. I have another film coming out that demands a big theatrical release called Monster Hunter, and I’m just hoping things return to some semblance of normalcy where we can start filling theaters up with eager audience members and show them what we got.

Just before I let you go, what can we expect from you in Monster Hunter?

Just a lot of overacting as usual. A lot of chewing the scenery…it’s just gonna be another one of those singular Ron Perlman performances, and I don’t know what the fuck that means. [Laughs]

Well, I think people love you for those, so I don’t think that’s a bad thing by any means!

Thank you, my friend, I appreciate that.

Run With The Hunted is available On Demand on Friday, June 26, 2020.

It’s the dawn of a new age of heroes, and Metropolis has just met its first. Follow the budding hero as he engages in bloody battles with intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo and fights for his life to halt the attack of power-hungry alien Parasite. The world will learn about Superman … but first, Superman must save the world!

Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Darren Criss (Glee, American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace) and Emmy nominee Zachary Quinto (Star Trek franchise, Heroes) lead a star-studded cast as the voices of Superman/Clark Kent and Lex Luthor, respectively. The cast also includes Alexandra Daddario (San Andreas, Baywatch, All My Children) as Lois Lane, Brett Dalton (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Parasite/Rudy Jones, Ryan Hurst (The Walking Dead, Sons of Anarchy, Remember the Titans) as Lobo, Ike Amadi (Mass Effect 3, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge) as Martian Manhunter, Neil Flynn (The Middle, Scrubs) as Jonathan Kent, Bellamy Young (Scandal, Prodigal Son) as Martha Kent, Cristina Milizia (DC Super Hero Girls) as Maya, Petey & Kaylie, Eugene Byrd (Bones, LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures) as Ron Troupe, April Stewart (South Park) as Mrs. Ross, and Piotr Michael (The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle) as Perry White, as well as Cissy Jones (Firewatch) and David Chen (Gotham).

Supervising Producer Butch Lukic has a rich pedigree in DC animated productions, serving as producer on Constantine: City of Demons, Justice League Action and the Batman Unlimited franchise, as well as directing episodes of Justice League, Batman Beyond and Beware the Batman. Lukic brings a new visual aesthetic to Superman: Man of Tomorrow that departs from the animation styles – of previous producers Bruce Timm (23 films) and James Tucker (17 films) – thus far represented in the DC Universe Movies.

Chris Palmer (Voltron: Legendary Defender) is the director of Superman: Man of Tomorrow, utilizing a script by Tim Sheridan (The Death of Superman). Producers are Jim Krieg (Batman: Gotham by Gaslight) and Kimberly S. Moreau (Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). Executive Producer is Sam Register.

Superman: Man of Tomorrow is an inspiring retelling of the DC Universe Movies’ backstory for The Man of Steel, taking the audience to his early days as an intern at the Daily Planet – and his beginnings as a learning-on-the-job DC Super Hero,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Senior Vice President, Originals, Animation and Family Marketing. “Darren Criss and Zachary Quinto have wholeheartedly embraced their roles as Superman and Lex Luthor for this film, and the end result is a special addition to canon of films that every Superman fan will want to add to their collection.”

THE SUICIDE SQUAD: Jai Courtney Says James Gunn’s Movie Is A “Different Flavor” And Teases Water Scenes

Image

While James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is going to hit the reset button on the franchise to some extent, there are still a number of characters from Suicide Squad who will be making their presence felt. Among them is Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang, and in an interview with Variety, the actor teased the “different flavour” Gunn is bringing to Task Force X.

“There’s a whole bunch of new characters,” he told the trade of what fans can expect from the sequel. “James Gunn has an approach to things that is uniquely his; he pulls a lot of that into the “Suicide Squad” world. And I think that it fits really well, and audiences are going to have a lot of fun with it.”

While Courtney was careful not to reveal too many specific details, he did share that at least one of Boomerang’s scenes will take place in a water tank (could that be when he meets King Shark?).

“I won’t to say too much, but there’s a particular sequence when I get very wet, and a few other people do, and hilarity ensued when it came to that. When you’re spending hours upon hours in a water tank with a bunch of people treading water, and you’ve got Styrofoam stuffed into every crevice of your costume to try and take the load off and because it’s 4 a.m., it gets quite ridiculous.”

“I am lucky that sometimes I’m making these small-budget gritty dramas like ‘Stateless,’ and sometimes I’m out shooting big ridiculous action comedies like ‘Suicide Squad,'” he added. “To have feet on both of those trains is a lot of fun — and it also means that I never get tired of it.”

Based on what we’ve seen from The Suicide Squad, it’s clear that Gunn is going to bring a lot of unique ideas to the table, and the tone of this movie is going to be vastly different to David Ayer’s take.

Are you guys excited to see the new direction Task Force X heads in come next August?

THE MATRIX 4 Stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie Anne-Moss & Neil Patrick Harris Return To Berlin Set

Image

After years of rumor and speculation, it was officially announced last August that a fourth Matrix movie was in development at Warner Bros. with Lana Wachowski, who co-wrote and co-directed the original trilogy with her sister Lilly, returning to helm, and Keanu Reeves (Neo) and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity) signing on to reprise their respective roles.

After being forced to halt filming a few months ago (along with every other major production), the movie was recently given the go-ahead to resume shooting in Berlin, and thanks to TMZ we have our first look at some the returning stars.

The photos feature Reeves, Moss and new cast member Neil Patrick Harris. No details on the How I Met Your Mother actor’s role have been revealed, but he is rumored to be playing a villain.

The pics are copyrighted, so click HERE to check them out.

Both Neo and Trinity were actually killed off at the end of The Matrix: Revolutions, so it’ll be interesting to see what explanation we’re given for their resurrections.

Also starring Jada Pinkett Smith, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick and Jonathan Groff, The Matrix 4‘s release was recently pushed to April 1, 2022.

RUN WITH THE HUNTED Star Ron Perlman Reveals Why He Said No To Returning As HELLBOY In The Reboot – EXCLUSIVE

It’s a terrific film, and well worth checking out this weekend (you can watch the trailer below). While we had star Ron Perlman on the phone to discuss his role as Birdie, we obviously had to ask about Hellboy 3, and quizzed the actor on whether he thinks the way last year’s reboot bombed has closed the door on him and Guillermo del Toro ever returning for that unmade third instalment.

David Harbour took on the title role in Hellboy, but Perlman told us that he was actually offered the chance to return as Big Red, but declined because Del Toro wasn’t going to be behind the camera!

“The only thing that’s stopping the third Hellboy film is the fact that Guillermo [del Toro] is one of the busiest guys in the business,” the actor told us. “He couldn’t do it with all the stuff he’s got lined up even if wanted to. The two films had nothing to do with one another.”

“The reboot was something I had the opportunity to participate in and decided that the only version of Hellboy I’m interested in is the one I do with Guillermo and so in walking away from it, I truly walked away from it, and haven’t seen it or heard much about it,” Perlman added. “I wished them well, but it was not in my bailiwick.”

We don’t know when exactly Perlman was offered the chance to return, but it’s definitely interesting that the studio initially wanted him back as Hellboy, and that certainly would have led to there being a lot more goodwill around Neil Marshall’s reboot.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the door is closed (perhaps slightly ajar) on Hellboy 3 for now, but stranger things have happened…

Run With The Hunted is available On Demand on Friday, June 26, 2020.
