Will Arnett’s LEGO BATMAN Returns For A Message To Kids About Covid-19

Image

With the recent outbreak of Covid-19 keeping people across the world at home and stopping most of production across Hollywood, one of the most significant affects of the outbreak has been how children have been kept at home.

In light of this, LEGO has decided to release a video featuring LEGO Batman, reprised by Will Arnett from his previous appearances in The LEGO Movie, it’s sequel, and the spinoff LEGO Batman movie. The clip also features the return of Ralph Fiennes as the voice of Alfred, as they talk about the recent outbreak of Covid-19.

LEGO Batman has an important message for all you Batfans on how you too can be a super hero! 🌟
Thanks @arnettwill Ralph Fiennes and @pistudios for your support 🤗 #ConnectedTogether @DCBatman pic.twitter.com/iSOW94c2n7

Animation for the segment was provided by animation studio Pure Imagination, who have worked on a number of LEGO-based animation projects in the past. While many live-action productions have shut down due to the outbreak, many animated projects have continued production remotely, which would likely include potential future LEGO movies, which would now be developed by Universal after the companies original deal with Warner Bros expired earlier this year.

The release of some animated projects, such as Universal’s Trolls World Tour, has even sparked outrage within Hollywood, with AMC Theaters threatening a (likely farcical) boycott of Universal’s future releases.

SPAWN Creator Todd McFarlane Reveals He’s Got A 90-Minute Animated Project Ready To Go

Image

Last year, Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane revealed talks were in progress to develop two different Spawn animated series. It sounds as though one of those series is close to happening — and soon, too.

Appearing on ComicBook.com’s Talking Shop, McFarlane teased that he’s got “about ninety minutes of a show ready, teed up, ready to go.” There’s still considerable work to be done, like cell animation, music and sound effects, but it sounds as though this project could be underway.

“Actually years ago we started a second go-round at it, and I still have all of that work. And it includes all the voice recordings and everything. So I’ve got about ninety minutes of a show ready, teed up, ready to go; the only thing I need to do is the cell animation, everything else has been designed. Obviously we need to put some music and sound effects or something – but yeah, I’ve been sitting on a 90-minute version of it for a long time. I’ve just been waiting to launch the movie to say ‘Hey, let’s tumble this all out at the appropriate time.’ But yeah, we’ll get animation done.”

The Spawn creator has been busy over the past few years, but most of his attention, it seems, has been focused on the live action movie. Getting the Blumhouse Pictures-backed film underway, however, has proven difficult.

Last year, McFarlane explained some creative differences were holding up some of the financial aspects of production. But in January, he vowed that production would begin sometime this year. In a more recent interview this month, he blamed himself for the project taking too long to get underway.

McFarlane clearly has big plans and aspirations for Spawn and while all of the the projects sound exciting, it sometimes sounds like he has the cart before the horse when talking about. Hopefully, this new animated series sees the light of day sooner rather than later. But if there’s one thing that’s certain about McFarlane, he has no shortage of ideas he’s willing to throw out there. In fact, he even brought up to Comicbook.com the idea of working on a crossover featuring Spawn, Spider-Man, and Venom. Add it to the list.

EXTRACTION Rakes In Netflix’s Biggest Film Premiere Of All Time

Image

In this time of social distancing, Netflix has been on a roll. With its value at an all-time high, and millions bingeing shows at home, it’s no surprise that Extraction is doing fantastic numbers for the streaming service. The actioner, starring Marvel Cinematic Universe alumnus Chris Hemsworth, with the backing of the Russo brothers and Avengers: Endgame stuntman Sam Hargrave, has gotten positive responses from critics and audiences. And to top it all off, the film is now projected for the biggest Netflix film premiere of all time.

Reported by service itself, Extraction is breaking records with an estimated 90 million households tuning in for its first four weeks. It overtakes the Ryan Reynolds-actioner 6 Underground, whose previous record was 83 million in viewership during the same duration.

So what does this mean for the film? Will the Russos be motivated to develop a sequel? Only time will tell. But until then, director Sam Hargrave and star Chris Hemsworth have proved themselves bonafide talents outside of the MCU, providing some of the best action sequences in film since John Wick: Chapter 3. (That 12-minute oner is undeniably the 2020’s best action sequence.) Let’s hope studios all around Hollywood take note.

Extraction is now streaming on Netflix.

New G.I. JOE Movie In The Works From SEBERG Writers; Will Continue Snake Eyes’ Story

Image

In addition to Snake-Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, Paramount Pictures and Hasbro have another Joe movie in the works with the writing team of Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse (Seberg, The Great Machine) on board to pen the script.

Although this untitled project is described as a follow-up to the Snake Eyes movie, THR reports that it won’t actually be a direct sequel, and will instead serve as “an expansion to take the audience deeper into the world of Joe.” We assume that means the fan-favorite ninja will still play a major role, but will be joined by a few familiar faces.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who produced Snake Eyes and is also working on various Transformers projects, will produce for Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures.

Snake Eyes star Henry Golding shared a first look at the film back in February, which you can check out below.

The Snake Eyes movie is directed by Robert Schwentke and also stars Andrew Koji (Fast & Furious 6) as Storm Shadow, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) as Scarlett, Úrsula Corberó (The Secret Life of Pets) as Baroness, and Iko Uwais (The Raid) as Hard Master.

JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4 Delayed To 2022 As Lionsgate Pushes Back Its Entire Upcoming Slate

Image

Lionsgate announced this afternoon that they’ve decided to push back their highly anticipated action sequel John Wick: Chapter 4 one full year from May 21, 2021, to May 27, 2022.

The move was always to be expected as filming had yet to begin, and both Keanu Reeves (Speed; The Replacements) and director/stunt coordinator Chad Stahelski (John Wick; Captain America: Civil War) were busy with Warner Bros.’ The Matrix 4 before the global production shut down due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. That’s expected to keep them busy for at least the rest of the year when major film productions are given the green light to begin rolling cameras again.

It will now open three weeks after Marvel’s Black Panther II and one week before Warner Bros.’ The Flash, both of which also have yet to begin production.

Additionally, Lionsgate has rearranged their entire 2020 schedule, either opting to push a film into later in the year or into 2021, save for the aforementioned John Wick: Chapter 4

  1. Antebellum (August 21, 2020)
  2. Fatale (October 30, 2020)
  3. Voyagers (November 25, 2020)
  4. The Asset (April 23, 2021)
  5. Spiral (May 21, 2021)
  6. Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar (July 16, 2021)
  7. Hitman’s Bodyguard 2 (August 20, 2021)
  8. American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story (December 10, 2021)
  9. John Wick: Chapter 4 (May 27, 2022)

No mention of Doug Liman’s perpetually delayed Chaos Walking, which is currently slated for release on January 22, 2021, but it seems probable that they’ll end up moving that back as well in the coming weeks/months. The sci-fi film stars Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Far From Home; Avengers: Endgame) and Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker; Murder on the Orient Express) in the lead roles.

NO TIME TO DIE: Daniel Craig’s Final JAMES BOND Movie Could Be Delayed Until 2021

Image

No Time to Die was the first major blockbuster to change release dates as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and, at the time, it felt like something of an over-reaction (and it wasn’t even that long ago). Since then, we’ve seen countless films and TV shows hit by delays, and Hollywood is in a state of panic due to the future being so uncertain.

After shifting from April to November, it’s now looking like the next James Bond movie could slip into 2021.

According to Mail Online (a surprisingly reliable news source for 007 intel), there’s no chance that No Time to Die will go straight to streaming platforms, but a move to next year isn’t off the cards.

“If it has to wait till next year then so be it,” they explain. “There are hundreds of millions of dollars involved here. Release it when audiences feel safe to return. But it’s a nerve-racking call.” MGM has already lost between $30 million – $50 million due to this delay, and that’s not good news for a film which is already the most expensive 007 adventure to date.

At this point, it’s hard to say what the best move for No Time to Die would be; November is busy, but so is 2021, and there’s a lot of doubt about whether audiences will be happy to make their way back to theaters that soon.

For now, it seems we’ll just have to wait and see (like everything else tied to this ongoing global pandemic).

THE MANDALORIAN Season 2 Post-Production Is Reportedly Continuing Despite COVID-19 Shutdowns

Image

Earlier today, Variety published a report which went into detail about how TV shows are dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s well worth a read, but something that’s particularly noteworthy is the fact that post-production is reportedly continuing on season two of The Mandalorian.

Filmmaker Rick Famuyiwa is back for this latest batch of episodes, and described the process as being “more all-consuming than usual,” before noting that “it’s good to have that to take my mind away from the daily madness that we’re living at the moment.”

Animation supervisor Hal Hickel added to that, explaining how work on the Disney+ TV show’s editing and VFX is able to continue. “A big tentpole summer film, like say ‘Avengers,’ might be around 2,000 visual effects shots, and these series are a little shy of 4,000 visual effects shots for season 1, and season 2 is no different,” he explained.

“We’re doing them in around the same amount of time, maybe even less time, than a big summer film, plus we all have to work remotely. We’re in the middle of that tsunami now, but we’re going to get it all done, people are going to get their Baby Yoda, I promise.”

That’s a positive sign that The Mandalorian season two will premiere on the streaming service as planned this fall, though a specific date has never actually been revealed by Disney and Lucasfilm.

With any luck, we’ll have more updates for you on the series later this summer, so stay tuned!
