Outside of the return of Bugs Bunny and his Looney Tunes crew, the plot of Space Jam 2 has been kept under heavy lock-and-key inside the Warner Bros. water tower, but now, thanks to a recent podcast appearance from Don Cheadle’s Black Monday co-star Paul Scheer, we may have a few new details about one of the movie’s central characters.
To promote the new season of his hit Showtime series, Scheer recently appeared on the Clip City Podcast, a Los Angeles Clippers-centric podcast sponsored by The Athletic, and seemingly let it slip that Cheadle (Avengers: Endgame) will be playing the primary antagonist in the upcoming animated sequel.
He reveals, “Actually Don Cheadle, who I do ‘Black Monday’ with, he’s the bad guy in ‘Space Jam,’ and he said LeBron’s really great. He was great in ‘Train Wreck’ too.“
While he is undoubtedly playing a villain, it’s uncertain at this juncture whether the Academy Award-nominated Cheadle will be playing a human villain or providing the voice for an animated baddie. The first film did see Danny DeVito provide the voice for the alien antagonist Swackhammer, so it’s entirely possible Cheadle could be playing a similar role.
The upcoming sequel will star Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James in the lead role, doing his best to fill the shoes of the legendary Michael Jordan, a.k.a. the greatest basketball player of all-time, who starred in the original 1996 classic.
Cheadle will headline the supporting cast along with Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery), who is playing James’ wife, and Ceyair J. Wright (American Skin), who is playing his eldest son. Basketball co-stars remain a mystery for now, but the cast is rumored to feature the likes of Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Chris Paul, Kyle Kuzma, Diana Taurasi, Nneka Ogwumike and Chiney Ogwumike, amongst several other NBA and WNBA stars.
There are also rumors that additional Warner Bros. characters, including Pennywise, Lord Voldemort, The Wicked Witch of the West, Agent Smith, The Mask, and The Joker, will also appear, but those murmurs remain unconfirmed for now.

STX Entertainment has released the first official trailer for their upcoming disaster thriller Greenland, which was directed by Ric Roman Waugh (Angel Has Fallen; Shot Caller) and stars Gerard Butler (Angel Has Fallen; 300) and Primetime Emmy-nominee Morena Baccarin (Deadpool 2; Gotham) in the lead roles.
The film’s plot is fairly straight forward as a man named John Garrity (Butler) is forced to find a way to protect his family after a comet drops down on Earth, completely leveling some of our planet’s biggest cities in the process. Their journey will ultimately lead them toward a possible safe haven, but actually getting there will be much easier said than done.
Greenland was initially announced back in 2018 with Neill Blomkamp (District 9; Elysium) directing and Chris Evans (Avengers: Endgame; Captain America) starring, but that iteration was scrapped in early 2019 when Blomkamp exited the project.
In addition to Butler and Baccarin, the supporting cast consists of Scott Glenn (Daredevil; The Bourne Ultimatum), Andrew Bachelor (Coffee & Kareem; When We First Met), David Denman (Power Rangers; The Office), Gary Weeks (Spider-Man: Homecoming; Jurassic World) and newcomer Roger Dale Floyd (Doctor Sleep; Stargirl).
While its release date is subject to change due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it’s currently slated to open in theaters worldwide on June 12.
A family struggles to survive when a comet rages against the earth. John Garrity (Gerard Butler), his separated wife Allison (Morena Baccarin) and son Nathan embark on a perilous journey to their only hope of safety. While several cities around the world are leveled with the earth from the comet’s fragments, the family experiences the best and worst humanity can offer, while battling the growing panic and lawlessness around them. As the countdown to the global apocalypse approaches zero, their last chance is a desperate flight to a possible safe haven.

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) didn’t perform very well and theaters, and so far it hasn’t done much better on digital platforms, but the highly entertaining DC Comics adventure will get another chance to recoup some of its losses when it flies onto 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on May 12.
Warner Bros. has now shared a new trailer for the film which includes a few moments that didn’t feature in the pre-theatrical release teasers. We also have a full list of special features, but, unfortunately, there’s not a deleted or extended scene in sight.
We also have a pretty cool looking Target exclusive Blu-ray cover.

When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis (Ewan McGregor), and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz (Chris Messina), put a target on a young girl named Cass (Ella Jay Basco), the city is turned upside down looking for her. Harley (Margot Robbie), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez)’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.

Birds of Prey begins with an awesome animated sequence, as Harley Quinn brings us up to speed on her chaotic life by touching on her past relationships and previous identity of Doctor Harleen Quinzell.
It’s here that we learn Harley is actually bisexual (or at the very least, experimented a little when she was younger) and that her toxic relationship with The Joker has now ended (he dumped her).

Miss Quinn is not in a good place after splitting from Mr. J, and is drowning her sorrows in the Black Mask club. When Roman Sionis’ driver insults her, she comes down hard on his legs, almost snapping them in two.
After hearing her crew laugh at her situation, Harley decided to sever ties with Joker for good and sends an explosive tanker into the place where her criminal persona was “born,” Ace Chemicals. Unfortunately, when word gets out that that Harley is no longer under The Joker’s protection, a lot of very bad people come looking for revenge.

Montoya has a mole in Black Mask’s gang (who is now on crutches after being very rude to HQ) and believes Sionis runs one of Gotham’s biggest criminal empires, but her coworkers and superior dismiss her theories.
After disobeying one to many orders to drop her case, Renee is suspended and forced to hand over her badge and gun.

Dinah Lance, aka Black Canary, works as a singer at Sionis’ club. It’s revealed that Montoya knew her mother, who had the same superpower and was a crime-fighter back in the day (presumably the original Black Canary).
When Sionis witnesses Dinah’s impressive fighting skills and makes her his new driver, Renee attempts to convince her to become her new informant. Lance agrees, but only when she find out someone close to her is in danger (more on that later).

Huntress, known as the Crossbow Killer to the cops, is shown taking out gangsters throughout the movie but doesn’t really come into play until the third act when her origin is revealed.
As a child, Helena Bertinelli witnessed the murders of her entire family by a rival mob boss and vows revenge. After being trained up as a lethal mercenary, she takes the mantle of Huntress and returns to Gotham to eliminate those responsible.
One of the gunmen? Roman Sionis’ sadistic right-hand man, Victor Zsasz.

Cassie Cain is a young pickpocket known to Montoya and Lance, who both care about her well-being. Unfortunately, the kid makes the mistake of lifting a very expensive and important diamond (no, it doesn’t contain dick pics) from Zsasz, which leads to a furious Sionis putting a half-million bounty on her head.
Cassie is arrested shortly after and taken to the GCPD, but someone knows where to find her.

Harley, meanwhile, is busy dealing with the various goons that crawled out of the woodwork once the word got out that Joker was out of the picture when she’s picked up by Sionis’ men. The villain is also aware of HQ’s new relationship status, and plans to kill her… because he can.
Harley overhears Zsasz talking about the diamond situation, and in order to avoid having her face sliced off (Black Mask’s sick little signature), she offers to track down the kid and retrieve the merchandise.
What follows is easily the standout action sequence of the movie, as Harley goes all Terminator with a glitter gun and takes out an entire police station to get her hands on Cain.
At one point, she notices a mugshot of Boomerang on the wall and says, “hey, I know that guy.” Not a cameo, as such, but a fun little callback to Suicide Squad all the same.
Quinn finally nabs Cain, only to discover that she’s swallowed the diamond. The pair then hold up in Harley’s apartment.

Harls takes a shine to the kid, but once she realizes that Sionis has an army after both of them, she decides to turn her over to take some of the heat off. Quinn calls Roman and agrees to hand Cain over at one of The Joker’s old lairs.
Sionis sends Zsasz and Canary – who he now suspects is an informant – to the fun house, but Montoya and Huntress are already there.
When Victor tries to get Lance to slice Cain open and retrieve the diamond, the ladies team up to take him out. At this point, a masked-up Sionis and a lot of his men have arrived, and Harley convinces the others to put their differences aside and fight their way out.

Another stellar action set piece here, as the girls team up to battle their way out of the fun house. They eventually make it outside, but Montoya is shot (she’s wearing some of Harley’s old body armor) and they’re pinned down.
Fortunately, Lance has a secret weapon, and for the first and only time in the movie she unleashes her Canary Cry. This leaves her too weak to fight but a path is cleared, and Harley gets her skates on to chase down Sionis, who has managed to grab Cain.

If you were hoping Black Mask would stick around for future movies, well, there’s very little chance of that happening!
Quinn corners Sionis at the end of a peer, but he keeps her at bay by holding a knife to Cassie’s throat. Harley apologizes for turning her in, telling Cain that she makes her want to be a “less terrible person.” Cassie then admits to stealing a ring from Quinn, before holding up the pin from a grenade she just stuffed in Sionis’ pocket.
She then knocks the villain off the peer as he explodes.

The ladies head for morning margaritas and engage in some banter as Cassie finally feels that diamond begin to move. She runs to the bathroom and is followed by Quinn, who steals Canary’s car and drives away, much to Huntress’ amusement.
Montoya, Canary and Huntress then form the Birds of Prey, and we get a glimpse of some comic-accurate (well, more comic-accurate) costumes. Harley does not join the team, and instead sets up the “Bad Motherfucker” detective agency with Cain.
Has Harley Quinn gone soft? She dares you to tell her so!

As you’ve already heard, there’s no mid or post-credits scene. Instead, we get Harley making fun of the people who stuck around by promising to tell them a secret about Batman before the audio cuts off.
Irritating? A little. Funny? Definitely. Basically, the perfect way to end this movie.

Edgar Wright (Baby Driver, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World) is attached to direct an adaptation of the upcoming novel Set My Heart to Five from Let Not the Waves of the Sea writer Simon Stephenson. The project is in development by Working Title and Focus Features.
Described as a “robot love story,” the novel has quite a synopsis. Set in 2054, it focuses on Jared, “an android that works as a dentist, as he undergoes an emotional awakening that is sparked by an introduction to ’80s and ’90s movies. He then embarks on a quest to convince humans that he and his kind should be permitted to feel. It’s a quest that leads to an unforgettable adventure across the West Coast of America, determined to meet to programmer that created him and write a film script that will change the world.”
It’s certainly an original-sounding premise, and should be right up Wright’s alley.
The fan-favorite filmmaker was set to direct Marvel’s Ant-Man at one point before stepping away due to creative differences. He was replaced by Peyton Reed. Wright also has a sequel to Baby Driver lined up for Sony’s TriStar.

The CW and DC Universe have both released separate poster for Stargirl. The former gives us a new look at Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) suited-up as the teenage hero, while the streaming service’s version spotlights some of her supporting characters.
It looks like Stargirl is going to be joining forces with some younger incarnations of the Golden Age Justice Society or America – the team her father Starman led back in the day. Here we see Anjelika Washington as Beth Chapel, aka Doctor Mid-Nite, Yvette Monreal as Yolanda Montez, aka Wildcat, and Cameron Gellman as Rick Tyler, aka Hourman.
The bottom half of the poster also features members of the villainous Injustice Society: Joy Osmanski as Paula Brooks/Tigress, Christopher James Baker as Dr. Henry King/Brainwave, Neil Jackson as Jordan Mahkent/Icicle, Nelson Lee as Dr. Ito/Dragon King, and Neil Hopkins as Crock/Sportsmaster.
In addition, we have some promo stills from the pilot episode. They’re not very revealing, and focus on Courtney and her family.

We recently found out that Stargirl had been delayed, but only by a week. The show will now hit DC Universe on Monday, May 18th, and make its broadcast TV debut on The CW the following day, Tuesday, May 19th, at 8/7c.

We knew this was inevitable in the wake of the current coronavirus pandemic, and Sony Pictures has now announced that three of its upcoming tentpole releases have been pushed back. Unlike Marvel’s Black Widow, however, we do know when these movies will hit theaters.
Originally scheduled for July 30, Spider-Man spinoff Morbius, the Living Vampire will now bow on March 19, 2021, while Ghostbusters: Afterlife is moving from its July 10 release to March 5, 2021. That date had been reserved for video game adaptation Uncharted, which has been shifted to October 8, 2021 – moving the untitled Sony Marvel movie that was previously in that spot into undated status.
In addition, Peter Rabbit 2 has been moved from August 2020 to January 15, 2021.
Studios are clearly taking no chances, and want to be certain that theaters will be reopened by the time they debut their biggest movies. What they may not be accounting for, though, is moviegoers being reluctant to venture out to see those movies. China recently had to re-close over 500 theaters after hardly anyone showed up, and the same thing could very easily happen in the U.S. and Europe.
At this point, we just have to hope that August’s Wonder Woman 1984 isn’t pushed back even further to 2021.
