Watch: America: The Motion Picture Trailer Reveals Netflix’s Insane Animated Movie

Netflix have been making a concerted effort to increase the amount of in-house animated movies coming to the library, something that’s worked out pretty well over the last month based on the success of The Mitchells vs. the Machines, which did admittedly cost the streaming service $110 million to acquire from Sony. However, the platform has never dealt with any 2D effort quite as bonkers as America: The Motion Picture.

In the broadest strokes, it could be described as the bastard animated love child of Mel Gibson’s The Patriot, The Avengers and The Expendables, which is fitting when Dave Callaham is the credited writer, with the scribe responsible for penning the first outing for Sylvester Stallone’s aging band of action heroes.

An insane spin on the American Revolution, Channing Tatum voices a foul-mouthed and chainsaw-wielding George Washington, who assembles a crack team of the nation’s heroes to battle the nefarious forces of Simon Pegg’s King James and Andy Samberg’s Benedict Arnold. The crew contains the hard-drinking Sam Adams, famed scientist Thomas Edison, Paul Revere and Geronimo, while Abraham Lincoln will of course appear as well, as played by Will Forte.

The ensemble includes Judy Greer, Bobby Moynihan, Olivia Munn, Jason Mantzoukas and more, while Archer executive producer Matt Thompson will make his feature directorial debut, with Tatum also producing alongside Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who are no strangers to irreverent animation given their prior credits on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The LEGO Movie and The Mitchells vs. the Machines.

In short, America: The Motion Picture is shaping up to be an absolute blast, and there’s not long left until the revisionist animation explodes onto Netflix on June 30th.

Watch: Vin Diesel Defies The Laws Of Physics In New Fast & Furious 9 Clip

Nobody goes to see a Fast & Furious movie expecting a hard-hitting character piece punctuated by a gritty sense of realism once the action inevitably takes to the streets. No, the people want absolute nonsense of the most preposterously entertaining kind, and that’s what made the franchise so universally popular after it reinvented itself a decade ago from a string of mid-budget action thrillers to $200 million blockbuster behemoths.

Very little makes sense in the world of The Fast Saga, and the filmmakers know that full well, yet continue to lean even further into it for the sake of our enjoyment. Indeed, action on an epic scale is clearly a global language when you consider F9 has made more than $230 million at the international box office in just over a week, and it’s coming to domestic screens in 23 days.

As the final marketing push begins, a new clip has now arrived that sums up Fast & Furious in all of its unhinged brilliance. Vin Diesel’s Dom and Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty are being shot at by a helicopter, so they naturally decide to drive straight off a cliff and fortuitously hinge the front wheel in the process, which swings them right the way around the face of a mountain to the other side, where their vehicle rolls about a dozen times before coming to a stop the right way up, and not a hair is out of place on Letty’s head.

It’s the sort of absolute disregard for physics and gravity that fans of the franchise fell in love with a long time ago, and if they’re giving this clip away for free, then you can guarantee that Fast & Furious 9 as a whole is ten times as crazy.

Watch: Neo Returns In Awesome Matrix 4 Fan Trailer

x

In just over six months, the fourth installment in The Matrix franchise will arrive simultaneously on the big screen and HBO Max, but details surrounding the return of the beloved sci-fi series for the first time in eighteen years remain so tightly guarded that we don’t even know what the movie is called yet.

There were various rumors flying around that it would come bearing the subtitle Resurrections, or it would drop the prefix entirely and simply be known as Matrix, but in a rare move from any studio, Warner Bros. reached out to one of the outlets reporting on the story and issued a rebuttal in January of the this year to outline that the fourth adventure for Keanu Reeves’ Neo hasn’t settled on an official title.

They’ll have to come up with one soon, though, because you’d imagine it won’t be too long before we see the first trailer for The Matrix 4, and attaching it to one of the company’s upcoming tentpole releases like August’s The Suicide Squad or October’s Dune is looking like the most realistic option. Until that day comes, however, we’ll have to make do with fan trailers like the one you can see above, which does a solid job of imagining how Neo would find himself drawn back into the world almost two decades later.

Sadly, we didn’t get to have The Matrix 4 and John Wick: Chapter 4 debut on Keanu Reeves Day, but post-production on the former has been underway for quite a while now after cameras stopped rolling last November, so director Lana Wachowski and editor Joseph Jett Sally must be fairly far along when it comes to putting the pieces together.

Watch: First Infinite Trailer Teases Mark Wahlberg’s New Sci-Fi Blockbuster

Paramount caused a stir a few weeks back when the studio announced that they were pulling big budget sci-fi blockbuster Infinite from theaters and sending it to their brand new streaming service instead, while it transpired in the aftermath that they didn’t consult either director Antoine Fuqua or star Mark Wahlberg about the decision, having clearly paid no attention to the Warner Bros. fiasco late last year.

Nonetheless, Infinite has been given a June 10th release date, and with less than two weeks to go, the first trailer has finally arrived. It’s certainly an exciting promo, one that already promises a typically stoic and straight-faced Wahlberg in action hero mode, which is arguably the least exciting of his various screen personas, but luckily it would appear that Chiwetel Ejiofor is in full-on scenery chewing mode as a villain with an implacable accent and a penchant for exposition.

Infinite

The promo then explodes into life with a barnstorming vehicle chase through a mysterious facility, before a voiceover continues to outline the broad strokes of the high concept plot and bombard our eyeballs with a series of sweeping visuals and standard action epic imagery. All told, it looks like a whole lot of fun, with Fuqua typically a reliable pair of hands when it comes to delivering studio pictures with decent-sized budgets, and Wahlberg is more than familiar with this sort of territory as well.

It’s the first major in-house title for Paramount+ as the nascent platform looks to instantly gain a foothold in the streaming wars, and Infinite certainly possesses the potential to drawn in plenty of new subscribers to the service based on nothing but the track records of Fuqua and Wahlberg, as well as the glossy sci-fi trappings seen in the trailer and its high concept premise.

Watch: Resident Evil – Code: Veronica Fan Remake Looks Incredible

While remakes are all the rage at Capcom right now, one game that continues to evade its gaze is Resident Evil – Code: Veronica. While not a numbered entry in the series, Claire Redfield’s incarceration and subsequent attempt to escape Rockfort Island is considered to be a sequel to Resident Evil 3 or, more specifically, its predecessor, as it reveals the events that befell Chris’ sister following the Raccoon City accident.

Despite featuring a story integral to the franchise’s overarching narrative, however, the developer – if rumors are to be believed – has passed on the idea of reimagining this title and gotten straight to work on RE4‘s remake instead. In light of those unfortunate circumstances, a number of fans have decided to undertake the ambitious venture of recreating Code: Veronica, and the results so far are incredible, to say the least, as you can see via the video above and screenshots below.

A brief statement on the project’s website states that every character and environment has purposefully been recreated in the same style as official releases and boasts improved cinematics, gameplay and extended scenarios. In the clip shared above, Claire is shown exploring the Ashford Palace’s main hall and several adjoining rooms, though some of these are clearly unfinished and lead nowhere. Numerous instances of frame jumps and visual glitches are also evident, but such quirks are to be expected of fan-made content.

What remains to be seen now, then, is whether Capcom will allow the development of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica‘s remake to continue or if it’ll issue a cease and desist similar to that sent to creators of an RE2 remake shortly before the studio announced an official version. Watch: Teen Titans Go! Roasts Jared Leto’s Joker

It’s fair to say that Jared Leto’s take on the Joker has been divisive, especially compared to the performances of Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger. Although the character was slightly redeemed in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, he remains a bit cringe-worthy for some DC fans and to this end, Teen Titans Go! have chosen to roast Leto’s version of the villain in episode “Pig in a Poke,” wherein they impersonate him as part of a plan to break into his lair.

In the clip, which you can catch above, Robin, Cyborg, Raven, Starfire and Beast Boy head into action after the Joker steals Starfire’s money with an internet scam. Travelling to Axis Chemicals, the gang demonstrate how “phishing” schemes work by taking turns to mimic the Clown Prince of Crime to his henchmen via a security monitor.

The tongue-in-cheek scene riffs on the many incarnations of the Joker we’ve seen over the years, beginning with Cyborg’s impersonation of Jack Nicholson’s Burtonverse figure, including one of his most iconic lines from the 1989 Batman. Next up, Beast Boy gives a pretty decent Ledger, which seems to be enough to fool the guard until Robin goes for Leto’s Joker, instantly raising the henchman’s suspicions as to whether he’s actually talking to his boss.

Although it’s worth watching the video for yourself, it’s perhaps no surprise that the rest of the Titans aren’t very impressed with Robin or the legitimacy of the tattooed, “edgy” Joker of the DCEU, leaving it up to Beast Boy to whip out a Mark Hamill animated riff to get them into the base. Without being malicious, Teen Titans Go! arguably echoes what many think of Leto’s hyperactive performance. And despite rumors of future cameos, it’s probably safe to assume that Warner Bros. are moving onto other options, including a now-increasingly likely Joker 2.

Watch: New Trailer For M. Night Shyamalan’s Terrifying Movie Old

M. Night Shyamalan is on a hot streak at the moment which looks to continue with this summer’s OldThe supernatural thriller is based on Pierre Oscar Levy and Frederik Peters’ graphic novel Sandcastle, which tells of an idyllic beach that has a dark secret – it makes people… old. In the book, we find some unwitting tourists trapped there as they rapidly age, with children growing up before their parents’ eyes and healthy adults crumbling into senility.

Shymalan is reportedly inspired by Sandcastle rather than simply retelling the story, but the core supernatural premise remains the same (though c’mon, there’s obviously going to be a twist). The first trailer was released during the Super Bowl and showed some genuinely freaky stuff, with a mother horrified that her six-year-old son is now an adult and a woman going through an accelerated pregnancy.

Today, we received an extended theatrical trailer and it’s clear that Shyamalan isn’t skimping on the existential terror. There’s something of a body horror aspect to this, too, all offset by the lush tropical backdrop of the Dominican Republic. The new promo also gives us a better look at the cast, which features Gael Garcia Bernal, Eliza Scanlen, Thomasin McKenzie, Aaron Pierre, Rufus Sewell and Embeth Davidtz (among many others).

Old

After the flops of The Last Airbender and After Earth, Shyamalan’s directorial future was looking shaky. But over the 2010s he’s been the quintessential comeback kid, with his last three movies (The VisitSplit and Glass) cumulatively grossing $625 million on relatively low budgets.

Beyond that, he’s also the executive producer of Apple TV+ show Servant, which has a been a big hit. So, fingers crossed this carries that winning run and Shymalan continues to unnerve us for years to come.

Old hits theaters on July 23rd.

Watch: Cobra Kai Season 4 Promo Teases Another Karate Kid Villain

Considering the huge numbers generated by new movies and television series across several streaming services, the holiday season is a great time to debut high profile original content.

After all, HBO Max’s Wonder Woman 1984 ended up with the largest streaming debut of any 2020 film and was just ahead of Pixar’s Soul, which made its way onto Disney Plus on the same day. Netflix’s We Can Be Heroes and Bridgerton both exploded onto the scene out of nowhere in December as well and became massive hits for the platform.

On top of that, we also got season 3 of Cobra Kai shortly after and it, too, ended up being another huge streaming success story. Thankfully, we already know that a fourth run is headed our way and today, Netflix has dropped a new promo for it, teasing the return of a Karate Kid villain.

Yes, as you can see in the video up above, that’s indeed Terry Silver, the guy who founded the Cobra Kai dojo. And he’ll be played once again by Thomas Ian Griffith.

“Since the beginning of the series, we’ve been carefully orchestrating the right moment to unleash Cobra Kai dojo co-founder Terry Silver back into the universe,” executive producers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg said in a statement. “That moment is now. We can’t wait for the whole world to experience Thomas Ian Griffith’s majestic return to the franchise.”

Of course, there were hints of Silver’s return in season 3, with the finale leaving many fans assuming that he’d indeed be involved in the next run. And sure enough, it’s now been confirmed. Unfortunately, we don’t have too many details yet on just how he’ll factor into things, but no doubt the showrunners have something exciting in store.

Cobra Kai season 4 is expected to be with us later this year, and as soon as we learn more about what’s on the cards for Mr. Silver, we’ll be sure to let you know. Until then, though, feel free to leave your own theories down below.
