Earlier this month, we learned that Marvel Studios has tapped Candyman director Nia DaCosta to take the helm of Captain Marvel 2. Now, Murphy’s Multiverse has reported that the plan is for the sequel to be shot at Pinewoods Studios in the UK as well as other parts of Europe. 

Very little is known about what to expect from the sequel, though rumours continue to run rampant that it will somehow adapt the Secret Invasion storyline. There have even been rumblings of some sort of companion series, so we could be looking forward to an event that takes place across film and television (which would definitely be something new for Marvel Studios). 

Here’s where things get really interesting, though; The DisInsider has added to that, noting that, “Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, who co-wrote and directed the first film are not returning for the sequel, but will stay in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as they are likely directing the Disney+  Ms. Marvel series.”

This is obviously the first we’ve heard of that, though it does make sense. There’s no reason to suspect they had a bad time working on Captain Marvel – it grossed over $1 billion worldwide – and Marvel Studios knows they can trust them with telling Kamala Khan’s story in Ms. Marvel.

The Boys season two returns to Amazon on September 4th, with the first four episodes set to premiere that day and the subsequent eight instalments following on a weekly basis. 

Now, the streaming service has released some key art showcasing each of the show’s main characters. Everyone from Billy Butcher to Homelander and Starlight receive their own pieces of artwork, and The Boys has a badass new tagline: “Heroes Aren’t Born. They’re Made.”

The DC FanDome panel revolving around Zack Snyder’s Justice League is perhaps the most anticipated part of the 24-hour virtual show, and if not, it’s got to be tied with The Batman!

It’s already been confirmed that a trailer will be released during the event, and Snyder has once again taken to social media to share a new look at his version of the superhero ensemble. This one includes some shots we haven’t seen before, including Bruce Wayne giving Arthur Curry his business card and the Flash racing towards the camera…could this be where time-travel comes into play?

We’ll have to wait and see, but many believe “JL: #TheSnyderCut” could end up being the movie’s official title as it’s once again used in this sneak peek for the original cut of Justice League. 

Snyder previously confirmed that we’ll learn the title and format of the movie during DC FanDome, so we’ll soon have plenty of answers, but if this teaser is any indication, we’re in for a treat. Another possible title has been revealed via the launch of the @snydercut Twitter account: that describes the movie simply as, “The Director’s Cut of Justice League.”

Tenet has received more attention than any other 2020 blockbuster, but not necessarily for the right reasons. Christopher Nolan’s insistence that it be released in theaters has generated a lot of backlash, especially as we’re in the midst of a global pandemic. His hope is to save multiplexes from being forced to close their doors, but a Digital release would have been much, much safer. 

Now, Tenet is received a limited release across the globe, and the first reviews are finally in. 

“Christopher Nolan has created a mind-bending rollercoaster of a film that makes for the perfect introduction back to cinemas,” reads Total Film‘s 5* verdict, also seemingly forgetting that heading into a theater isn’t overly safe right now. Fellow UK site Digital Spy, meanwhile, awards the movie 4*, and describes it as both “impressive” and “frustrating,” noting that while it’s a great big screen experience, it doesn’t “[reach] the heights of Nolan’s best work.”

According to Variety, “The sheer meticulousness of Nolan’s grand-canvas action aesthetic is enthralling, as if to compensate for the stray loose threads and teasing paradoxes of his screenplay — or perhaps simply to underline that they don’t matter all that much.” The Wrap also weighs in, saying: “the plotting is muddled rather than complex, with less to say about the flow of time than ‘Interstellar’ or ‘Memento.’ In the end, ‘Tenet’ isn’t one of Nolan’s most satisfying films.”

IndieWire weren’t impressed with a C- score and a headline that reads, “Christopher Nolan’s Long-Anticipated Time Caper Is a Humorless Disappointment.” The Telegraph loved it, though, with a glowing 5* review that ends with, “This is a film that will cause many to throw up their hands in bamboozlement – and many more, I hope, to clasp theirs in awe and delight.”

The Guardian was less impressed with a 2* verdict: “The world is more than ready for a fabulous blockbuster, especially one that happens to feature face masks and chat about going back in time to avoid catastrophe. It’s a real shame Tenet isn’t it.” Finally, Slash Film finally gives it 7.5/10 with, “At its best this is a ride that manages to be viscerally thrilling while still being emotionally and intellectually engaging, all in ways that are truly, uniquely cinematic.”

So, the general consensus appears to be that it’s a big, bombastic movie, but one that doesn’t quite live up to expectations after the long way, with a confusing, muddle story that’s hard to follow, The same could be said for many of Nolan’s movies, though, so fans of his will likely love it.

Warner Bros. has settled on that October 2nd release date for Wonder Woman 1984, and the marketing campaign is finally picking up steam again. Tomorrow, DC Fan Dome kicks off with a panel devoted to the movie, and we now have a new poster and banner hyping that up. 

Once again, bright colours are called for which bring back memories of the 1980s, and the banner features Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince decked out in that impressive Golden Eagle armour. 

Wonder Woman is also wearing that in the new poster for Patty Jenkins’ sequel, and given how much fun the teaser trailer was, we’re hopefully in for a treat with tomorrow’s trailer. The hope among fans is that it will finally pull the curtain back on Cheetah as we’ve yet to see that villain outside of some Funko Pops, leaked promo art, and the odd leaked merchandising image. 

There is, of course, a chance Warner Bros. is saving that for the movie itself, but it almost seems pointless at this stage given how much content for Wonder Woman 1984 is doing the rounds.
