SCREAM 5 Adds VIDA Actress Melissa Barrera; Check Out A Killer Fan-Made Poster

Image

Scream 5 has added its first new cast member in the form of Vida and In The Heights actress Melissa Barrera. No details on her role have been revealed, but her character is excepted to be key to the plot.

Barrera joins returning franchise vets Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers and David Arquette as Dewey Riley. Neve Campbell is said to be in talks to reprise the lead role of Sidney Prescott, but she has not been confirmed to return.

Paramount Pictures will team with Spyglass Media to co-produce and distribute the fifth installment in the iconic horror series, which has Ready or Not duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett on board to direct. James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick are co-writing the screenplay. Producers for the film are James Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak, with Kevin Williamson executive producing.

Plot details are still under wraps, but it’s probably safe to assume the story will revolve around the main characters being stalked by a knife-wielding maniac in a Ghostface mask.

Principal photography is expected to begin late summer in Wilmington NC, and Paramount hopes to release the movie at some point next year.

We also have an awesome fan-made poster from Creepy Duck Design which you can check out below. Honestly, we don’t see any of the official one-sheets topping this!

Jim Lee Confirms DC Comics Will Remain In The Business Of Publishing Comic Books Moving Forward

Image

When AT&T bought WarnerMedia, there was a lot of speculation that DC Comics could be sold off. Rumour had it they were looking to get out of the comic book business, a move that’s not overly surprising considering the fact it’s not an overly profitable business compared to merchandising and movies/TV shows adapting those stories.

Joker proved that Warner Bros. doesn’t need the source material to tell an effective story with characters from that world, so could we be nearing the end of DC Comics? No, according to Jim Lee.

“I don’t think they want to stop us from publishing comics,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Comics serve a lot of different purposes and one of them is it’s a great way to incubate ideas and creating the next great franchises. We want to continue that. Why would you want to stop that? Why would you want to stop creating great content that could be used across the greater enterprise?”

The trade later put one particularly silly question to the publisher when they asked about the rumour DC Comics will start only selling trades and original graphic novels, making a deal with Marvel Comics to take charge of characters like Batman and Superman. “There is nothing further from the truth in that,” Lee laughed. “I don’t know where you would even connect those dots. Why would we ever do that?”

Lee would later prove that work will continue as normal at DC Comics, but pointed out that those titles which haven’t been selling well or have made a loss are going to be scrapped. However, there’s lots to still look forward too, including a Batman miniseries from Oscar-winning writer John Ridley (12 Years a Slave). He says that, “It will have a huge impact on the rest of the line.”

So, big changes are taking place at DC Comics, but they’re perhaps not as big as some believe…

MULAN TV Spot Features More New Footage & Another Glimpse Of That Mysterious Phoenix

Image

After several release delays relating to the ongoing pandemic, Disney recently decided to send Niki Caro’s live-action Mulan adaptation straight to the Disney+ streaming service – with an additional $29.99 cost attached!

The price-tag has come in for some backlash, but many feel it’s worth forking out to watch the movie in the comfort of their own home rather than risk a trip to the cinema in the current climate. Mulan will also receive a theatrical release in territories (including China) where cinemas are open, but Disney+ is not currently available.

Now, Disney has followed up that recent 60-second promo for the movie with another TV spot featuring even more new footage. Here, we see Liu Yifei’s fearless warrior facing off with Gong Li’s villainous Xianniang, Commander Tung (Donnie Ye) leading his army into battle, and more. We also get a look at that mysterious CG phoenix which is believed to have replaced Mushu the dragon.

“There is no courage without fear.” Stream Disney’s #Mulan September 4 exclusively on #DisneyPlus with Premier Access.

BATMAN: WB Games Seemingly Teases “Court Of Owls” Reveal For Tomorrow With Cryptic Video

Image

WB Games Montreal has shared a new tease for what’s widely believed to be a new Batman video game via a new “r3dakt3d” Twitter account, and it looks like some kind of announcement might be coming our way tomorrow.

The brief video features computer interface with intermittent background images showing three different crests or logos, one of which certainly appears to be an owl.

The villainous Court of Owls have been rumored to factor into the new Batman game, unofficially known as Gotham Knights, for quite a while now, and WB Games has previously teased the ancient organization with a t-shirt and a series of logos that began to fill out a wider image.

This latest teaser led fans to a website called r3dakt3d.com, which currently features the words, “We have be3n expecting you 8/18”, followed by a 24-hour countdown timer.

Chances are the full trailer won’t be unveiled until DC FanDome this weekend, but we can probably expect more teases in the meantime. There’s definitely something lined up for tomorrow!

SUPERNATURAL Star Jensen Ackles Joins THE BOYS Season 3 As Soldier Boy, The World’s First Superhero

Image

Jensen Ackles recently returned to Vancouver to finish work on Supernatural‘s fifteenth and final season, but he’s now booked his first major gig after playing Dean Winchester for a decade and a half.

According to TV Line, he will reunite with original Supernatural showrunner Eric Kripke for season three of The Boys. There, he will play Soldier Boy, the world’s first superhero celebrity after he fought in World War II. He became an American icon in the years that followed, and is obviously meant to be a parody of Marvel Comics character Captain America.

“When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment,” The Boys showrunner Kripke said in a statement. “I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother.”

“As Soldier Boy, the very first Superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of Supernatural to The Boys.”

There were two Soldier Boys in Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book series, but Ackles is clearly playing the original (rather than the one who later does everything – literally – he can to join The Seven). The show is bound to put its own unique spin on the character, though, and it should be a lot of fun getting to see Ackles play a very different sort of character on screen.

Plus, don’t forget that he was once a fan-favourite choice to play Captain America online!
