THE BOYS Co-Creator Seth Rogen On The Show’s Popularity And How PREACHER Set The Stage For The Series

Image

The Boys premiered on Amazon Prime last year, and there’s a lot of excitement surrounding the second season of the hit series. Of course, we’ve been told that it was a huge hit for the streaming service (which explains why it’s already been renewed for a third year), but not even co-creator and executive producer Seth Rogen has been informed of how popular the show actually is.

“They’ve conveyed to us that it is quite popular,” Rogen revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, explaining that he’s not been given access to specific viewing figures for the critically acclaimed series. “It’s for sure the most popular thing we’ve made. I could quantify every failure I’ve ever had for you, but I could not give you specifics on our success.”

In the same interview, Rogen acknowledged that it was Preacher that, in many ways, set the stage for The Boys to even become a reality (Preacher streamed on Amazon Prime outside of the U.S.).

“In movies, we were very known for comedies specifically,” Rogen says of his Point Grey collaborators. “And in TV, Preacher was our first show, and it opened the door for us right away to do a lot more different stuff. All of a sudden, in the TV world, we are playing in levels of budgets that, if you were to transfer over to the movie world, is a much bigger arena than we are generally working in. Hopefully it will transfer over into movies. The Boys has shown us, when we make these big scope-y things, while still having our sensibilities, they can work.”

It would certainly be interesting to see a major superhero movie project in Rogen’s hands, especially as he’s proven to be an extremely versatile talent behind the camera in recent years. Time will tell on that front, but we’ll have a lot of exclusive coverage for you on The Boys later this month…

THE NEW MUTANTS TV Spot Sees The Young X-Men Unleash Their Formidable Powers

Image

The New Mutants remains on course to be released in theaters on August 28th, and while it’s somewhat hard to believe that will actually happen, this latest TV spot once again promotes that date.

Many fans remain convinced that the final X-Men movie from Fox will end up on Disney+ sooner rather than later, and that this theatrical release is simply a case of sticking to past agreements made for a big screen debut before Disney acquired the rival studios. Time will tell on that front, of course, but The New Mutants may be unable to survive yet another release date delay.

Regardless, in this new promo, we get to see the future X-Men members showcasing their mutant powers as Sunspot is engulfed in flames, Wolfsbane begins her transformation, Cannonball gets ready for lift off, and, most impressively, Magik’s arm is covered with her protective armour.

Recently, a synopsis for The New Mutants confirmed that Magik is related to Colossus, but seeing as director Josh Boone has confirmed that there won’t be any X-Men cameos, we can obviously forget about seeing him make a surprise appearance to try and help his little sister out of this asylum.

Check out the TV spot below:

SPIDER-MAN Confirmed To Join MARVEL’S AVENGERS Roster As Free Post-Launch Playstation-Exclusive Character

Image

Following this morning’s leak, Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that Spider-Man is indeed coming to the world of Marvel’s Avengers as a free post-launch Playstation-exclusve character, set to debut in early 2021.

In a lengthy blog post, Crystal Dynamics Associate Art Director Jeff Adams revealed that their Spider-Man will be an original take on the classic webslinger – and NOT the same Spidey from the Insomniac game – made specifically for Marvel’s Avengers and will have his own impressive combination of web configurations and gadgets to enhance your experience, all of which will be upgradable to specialize how Spidey plays in your specific campaign.

As for his suit, which is currently being kept under wraps, it looks like it’ll be drawing inspiration from both the classic designs from Steve Ditko and John Romita Sr., along with nods to other talented artists that have had a hand in crafting Spidey’s iconic look over the years.

Spider-Man will launch with in-game event that will introduce him to the wider world of Marvel’s Avengers.  The event is comprised of a series of unique challenges for the hero to take on, testing his abilities, and yielding some exciting results. He’ll also get a variety of different costumes and gameplay experience options, so you can make your vision of the wall crawler a reality.

As a Playstation-exclusive, he’ll be available on both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game at no additional cost.

Marvel’s Avengers is a third-person action-adventure game where you play an all-new, original Avengers story reassembling Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

This video dives deeply into how you customize Super Heroes’ Gear, Skills, Outfits, and how to launch missions from your helicarrier base of operations to take on AIM.

Marvel’s Avengers is set to release on September 4

THE SANDMAN Netflix Adaptation Reportedly Enlists DOCTOR WHO & BLACK MIRROR Director Toby Hayes

Image

Like pretty much every other major TV and film project currently in development, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic stalled production on Netflix’s planned adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, but it looks like things are finally starting to move forward.

According to The Illuminerdi, Netflix and Warner Bros. TV have enlisted Toby Hayes to direct an undisclosed number of episodes. Hayes is best known for helming multiple episodes of the Matt Smith incarnation of Doctor Who, as well as the Emmy Award-winning “USS Callister” instalment of Black Mirror.

The 10-episode first season of The Sandman is expected to adapt the first arc of the Vertigo comics series, “Preludes and Nocturnes,” which finds Morpheus captured by a black magician and held prisoner for the better part of a century. When he finally escapes, he sets about recovering three very important items, encountering Lucifer, John Constantine, Doctor Destiny, Martian Manhunter and more on his travels.

Gaiman is developing the show along with David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg.

The search is currently underway to find a lead actor to play Morpheus on the show. James McAvoy recently voiced the character to great acclaim in Audible’s adaptation, and is now a fan-favorite pick to bring life to Dream in live-action (though that’s highly unlikely to happen).
