It’s way too soon to say when we could see mutants become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Phase 4, but The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is clearly going to reference the world of the X-Men in some ways. It’s been known for a while that Madripoor will factor into the Disney+ series, but these set photos tease a very unexpected connection to Wolverine’s world. 

As you can see in the image below, an extra has been spotted decked out in a leather jacket with a red, flaming skull on the back. So far, so Hells Angels wannabe, right? Well, perhaps not. 

On closer inspection, you’ll notice that there’s a striking resemblance to the symbol which represented Ogun in the Death of Wolverine comic book series. There’s no denying the similarities here, and if Sam Wilson and Bucky really are going to spend time in Madripoor, it would make sense to reference this villain in some way (that’s not necessarily an indication he will appear, of course).

In the comics, Ogun in an ancient warrior who once served as a father figure of sorts to Wolverine. He trained Logan in the way of martial arts, and while the X-Man eventually killed him, his spirit lived on within the mask you see below. This could just be a completely meaningless Easter Egg, but it’s hard not to get excited about the way Marvel Studios is fleshing the MCU out.

Suicide Squad has generated plenty of debate since it was released in 2016, and fans have dissected many scenes in a bid to find out what David Ayer had planned for Task Force X and company before Warner Bros. ordered a long list of changes. One such scene saw The Joker throw Harley Quinn from the helicopter they escaped on.

In the theatrical cut, The Joker saved Harley’s life after the chopper was shot down, but there have been rumours the Clown Prince of Crime actually threw her from that in the “Ayer Cut” after it became clear she wanted to go back and help Task Force X. That’s only ever really been a rumour, but it was once that made sense given what few details were revealed about the movie. 

Well, Ayer has now taken to Twitter to confirm that while, yes, The Joker did push Harley from the helicopter, his intention wasn’t to kill her. This clears things up to some extent, but leaves us with plenty of questions, and doesn’t explain how much Warner Bros. ultimately changed this sequence.

Tenet has been pushed back to the end of July, and that means the first major movie to play in theaters will be Mulan the week before. However, Warner Bros. isn’t leaving that July 17th slot completely empty as they’ve randomly decided to re-release Inception to…mark the film’s tenth anniversary?!

“Warner Bros. Pictures is partnering with exhibitors to invite audiences around the world to celebrate the 10th Anniversary re-release of Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed box office sensation Inception on July 17,” reads the press release issued by the studio.

“This special anniversary theatrical event will also give audiences a never-before-seen look at footage from Nolan’s highly anticipated film Tenet, which will debut worldwide two weeks later, on July 31.” The statement concludes by teasing, “Moviegoers will also be treated to an exclusive sneak peek of select films on Warner Bros.’ upcoming slate.”

Seeing as Comic-Con was obviously set to take place around the same time in July, the studio is bound to have at least some footage from upcoming DC Comics movies, and speculation is running rampant online that we could get a first look at both The Batman and The Suicide Squad here.

Footage from Wonder Woman 1984 and Godzilla vs. Kong is also a given, and it could be that they’re more likely to receive promotional pushes here than any 2021 releases.

On Friday, Wonder Woman 1984 was among a number of movies delayed by Warner Bros. Patty Jenkins’ sequel has moved all over the release calendar, with a November 2019 debut originally planned before it was pushed to this June, and then August in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, it’s coming our way on October 2nd, and that’s a long wait for fans anxious to see more of Diana Prince on the silver screen. With any luck, it will be worth it, though, and director Patty Jenkins has taken to Twitter to thank fans and explain that the latest release date change is due to what’s happening in the world right now. It’s also likely connected to what’s happening with theaters.

Those currently remain closed, but are aiming for a July re-opening in most countries and states. 

However, there’s a lot of uncertainty about whether that will be possible in key markets like New York and Los Angeles, so Warner Bros. clearly felt as if October would be a safer bet for the movie.

There’s no sign of a new Avengers movie during Marvel Studios’ Phase 4, and while rumours persist about everything from a Secret Invasion adaptation to Young Avengers, it appears as if Earth’s Mightiest Heroes won’t assemble again for the foreseeable future. 

That’s bound to change at some point, of course, especially as Avengers: Endgame became the highest-grossing movie of all-time when it hit theaters in 2019. 

While most fans would like to see Joe and Anthony Russo return to take the helm of Avengers 5, there’s already a lot of speculation about who else could take charge of the franchise moving forward in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, once he’s done with The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it won’t be filmmaker James Gunn. 

During a recent Q&A with fans on Instagram, Gunn was asked about directing an Avengers movie and said, “I haven’t been asked, but I wouldn’t do it if I was.”

That’s pretty definitive, and the franchise clearly doesn’t interest him for whatever reason. That’s a shame (he could make a badass team-up movie featuring the Avengers and Guardians), and we don’t know what his comic book movie future is likely to be after Vol. 3 is released, especially as Gunn has described that as the conclusion to his trilogy.
