F9 Star Vin Diesel At War With The Producers Guild Over Credit For FAST & FURIOUS Franchise

Image

You may not be aware of this, but Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel has spent the past few years fighting to receive an illustrious “p.g.a.” credit after his name for his contributions as a producer on the franchise. Each time, the actor has been turned down, as the Producers Guild of America clearly don’t believe he’s made a substantial contribution to the making of the movies.

On Sunday night, Diesel shared a cryptic Instagram post (which has now been deleted) with claims that he was “mitigating a war” with the PGA, who he branded as the “prejudice guild of America.”

According to Variety, he’s attempted to receive this mark for EVERY film in the Fast & Furious franchise, but he has consistently been denied and sought appeals which have reportedly then turned ugly. However, despite Diesel’s claim that the war he was mitigating was between Universal Pictures and the PGA, it doesn’t sound like the studio has any real sort of involvement in this.

Getting that “p.g.a.” tag means being eligible to receive an Oscar for “Best Picture” (that’s not happening with F9), but it also entitles producers to, “to early and increased bonuses based on box office performance and award nominations.” The Fast & Furious franchise tends to earn a lot of acclaim at shows where the winners are voted on by regular moviegoers rather than critics.

The trade notes that, “the idea that Diesel is active in the daily slog that gets the movies made is dubious to people involved in these projects. Diesel ‘leans in’ to behavior typical of star talent, despite being listed on call sheets as a producer, said two sources familiar with numerous “Fast” productions. That behavior includes arriving hours late on pricey stunt days, said one source.”

With that in mind, something tell us this is one battle Dom won’t be able to win…

Image

With next month’s Justice League Dark: Apokolips War expected to bring an end to the DC Animated Universe as we know it, Entertainment Weekly has shared a first look at the future of DC animated adventures with the first still from this summer’s Superman: Man of Tomorrow, which will presumably reboot the entire universe and usher in a whole new era of DC animated movies.

The story will pick up with a young Clark Kent (Darren Criss) interning at the Daily Planet and essentially learning on the fly (no pun intended) how to also be Superman and save the city of Metropolis from a series of major threats from Lex Luthor (Zachary Quinto), Parasite (Ryan Hurst) and Lobo (Brett Dalton).

Darren Criss (Glee; Hollywood) is voicing the Man of Steel with a supporting cast consisting of Zachary Quinto (Star Trek Beyond; Heroes) as Lex Luthor, Alexandra Daddario (True Detective; San Andreas) as Lois Lane, Brett Dalton (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.; Elementary) as the Main Man Lobo, Ryan Hurst (Remember the Titans; The Walking Dead) as Parasite, Ike Amadi (Mass Effect 3; Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge) as Martian Manhunter, Neil Flynn (Scrubs; Mean Girls) as Jonathan Kent, and Bellamy Young (Scandal; Scrubs) as Martha Kent.

Chris Palmer (Voltron: Legendary Defender) is directing with a screenplay from Tim Sheridan (The Death of Superman; Reign of the Supermen).

A release date has not yet been set, but it’s due out on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD this summer.

ASSASSIN’S CREED VALHALLA Trailer Takes Us Back To The Time Of The Vikings

Image

The Assassin’s Creed video game franchise remains one of the biggest on the planet, and a first look at the next instalment has now been revealed. Titled Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, it promises to take us back to when Vikings roamed the Earth for potentially the most badass chapter yet.

This newly revealed trailer introduces us to the assassins who roamed the Earth during that time, and one of them can be seen wielding an Axe emblazoned with the Assassin’s iconic crest.

The Templars also make a brief appearance, as do some members of the supporting cast. Artwork for the game has confirmed that the action will take place both at sea and on the land, and with Odin’s raven spotted in the background, there’s speculation that the Norse Gods will come into play.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla looks like a blast, and is currently set to be released this Holiday season.

Become Eivor, a Viking raider raised to be a fearless warrior, and lead your clan from icy desolation in Norway to a new home amid the lush farmlands of ninth-century England. Find your settlement and conquer this hostile land by any means to earn a place in Valhalla. England in the age of the Vikings is a fractured nation of petty lords and warring kingdoms. Beneath the chaos lies a rich and untamed land waiting for a new conqueror. Will it be you?

Along with their latest cover story, Total Film has also shared three new photos from Walt Disney Studios and 20th Century Studios’ sci-fi/action-comedy Free Guy, which will star Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool; Deadpool 2) in the lead role as Guy, a non-player character (NPC) working as a bank teller who becomes self-aware and realizes that he’s been living in a video game.

Speaking with the magazine, Reynolds explains why he chose the project, which was recently delayed to December 11. “I was looking to do something that felt the way I felt when I watched Back To The Future for the first time. I wanted to do something that felt like you were stepping into a world of wish-fulfillment and possibilities – a world that was funny, but had real stakes and real heart.

In addition to Reynolds, the cast will feature Golden Globe-nominee and Primetime Emmy-winner Jodie Comer (Killing Eve; Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker), Joe Keery (Stranger Things; Molly’s Game), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out; Uncle Drew), Utkarsh Ambudkar (Mulan; Brockmire), Camille Kostek (I Feel Pretty; Sports Illustrated Swimsuit) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok; Thor: Love and Thunder).

Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way…before it is too late.

ANT-MAN & THE WASP’s Hannah John-Kamen Reportedly Offered Jill Valentine Role In RESIDENT EVIL Reboot

Image

The upcoming Resident Evil reboot will reportedly stick much closer to the video games than the previous franchise did, incorporating several fan-favorite characters that have appeared in the original installments of the classic horror game series. One of them will be Jill Valentine, and The Illuminderdi reports that Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and The Wasp, The Stranger) has been offered the role.

This new interpretation of Valentine is described as “a small town girl that enjoys hunting with the guys. She is gorgeous yet tough, and she knows how to have a good time.” That sounds more like a dating app profile than a character breakdown, but okay.

Should John-Kamen decline the offer, Screen Gems is said to be leaving the casting open to all ethnicities, but will be “focusing on casting an African-American with mixed heritage for the role.”

This report also confirms that The Maze Runner actress Kaya Scodelario has offered the role of Claire Redfield, but negotiations are ongoing. Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy, and Albert Wesker will also appear, but we have no word on which actors may be in line for those parts.

Resident Evil will be directed by Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down), who is also co-writing alongside Greg Russo. Production was scheduled to begin this June, but that has very likely been postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

WONDER WOMAN 1984 Director Confirms AMAZONS Spinoff, But Says She Won’t Helm The Movie

Image

Late last year, a rumor did the rounds online that Warner Bros. was in early development on a Wonder Woman spinoff which would focus on Diana’s fellow Amazons of Themyscira, and Patty Jenkins has now confirmed the studio’s plans.

The Wonder Woman 1984 director says she has a story arc in mind that wound encompass the first two movies, followed by Amazons (not the official title) and then a fourth installment, but doesn’t intend to step behind the camera for the spinoff.

“I’m not going to nail down a fresh thought about it until this movie comes out, because I kind of want to give myself a palette cleanser, and be fresh of mind,” Jenkins explained to Total Film when asked about the Amazon film. “But yeah, there’s an arc that I have in mind for the first movie, and then the second movie, and then the Amazon movie, and then the third movie.”

“I’m not going to direct it, hopefully,” she added. “I’m going to try really hard not to. It’s not going to be easy. But Geoff Johns and I came up with the story, and we sold the pitch, and we’re going to get it going. I’ll produce it, for sure.”

The first Wonder Woman movie was a huge success so it’s hardly surprising the WB is planning spinoffs, but whether the Amazon movie ultimately sees production may well depend on how WW84 performs when it (hopefully) hits theaters on August 14.

DAREDEVIL Actor Charlie Cox Debunks “Rumor” That He’ll Appear In New SPIDER-MAN Movie

Image

A “rumor” recently did the rounds online that Charlie Cox was set to reprise the role of Matt Murdock for the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel, but the actor has now set things straight during an interview with ComicBook.com ahead of their Daredevil watch party tomorrow night.

“I hadn’t heard those rumors, but it’s certainly not with my Daredevil. I’m not involved in it,” Cox revealed. “If that’s true, it’s not with me. It’s with another actor.”

Of course, it’s not true. We know this because the original story was posted by notorious bullshit merchants We Got This Covered.

Most know better than to believe a word that comes out of that site at this stage, but because a few people will always buy anything they read on the internet, their nonsense still circulates. This particular fabrication gained traction because Kevin Smith mentioned it on his YouTube show.

So, Daredevil is not going to be in the next Spider-Man movie – but that doesn’t mean Cox has no interest in returning as The Man Without Fear in The MCU.

“As a fan of the Marvel movies, I’ve loved the little stuff where they pop up here and there but because we were on Netflix, we weren’t able to do as much for legal reasons, I don’t know why,” Cox added. “But I love the idea of Jessica and Matt showing up in the background or Matt as a lawyer advising Peter Parker. That’d be really, really cool.”

For more, be sure to tune in to the Daredevil quarantine watch party at 9pm Eastern with showrunner Erik Oleson and most of the Season Three cast.
