Ryan Reynolds Set To Reunite With FREE GUY Director Shawn Levy For Time Travel Adventure Movie

Image

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Golden Globe-nominee Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool; Deadpool 2) is set to reunite with his Academy Award-nominated Free Guy director Shawn Levy (Real Steel; Date Night) for an untitled time travel adventure film from Skydance Productions.

Jonathan Topper (This Is Where I Leave You; Kodachrome) has been tapped to write the script. The plot will revolve around a man (Reynolds) who must travel back in time to get help from his 13-year old self and in the process reencounter his late father, who is now the same age as Reynolds.

The project, formerly known as Our Name is Adam, is expected to be the next film for both Reynolds and Levy, who are both also on board as producers, and is currently slated to begin production at the end of the year. However, that plan is subject to change depending on the status of the coronavirus pandemic.

3x Academy Award-nominated superstar Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible 7 & 8) was briefly attached to star in the film in 2012, but nothing ever materialized and it’s been in various stages of development hell ever since.

Next up for both Reynolds and Levy is 20th Century Studios’ sci-fi action comedy Free Guy, which is due out in theaters on December 11.

O’Reilly will reprise her role as Mon Mothma from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith while Gough will be playing a mysterious new character. Further details were not provided.

In addition to Luna, the pair join a cast that will also feature Golden Globe-winner Stellan Skarsgård (Avengers: Age of Ultron; Chernobyl) and Kyle Stoller (Anna Karenina; Fury).

2x Academy Award-nominee Tony Gilroy (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story; The Bourne Legacy) is serving as showrunner and the writing team will consist of him, brother and fellow Academy Award-nominee Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler; Kong: Skull Island), Academy Award-nominee Beau Willimon (House of Cards; The Ides of March) and 2x Primetime Emmy-nominee Stephen Schiff (The Americans; American Assassin).

Production has been delayed indefinitely due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and a new start date has not yet been given, but there is optimism that cameras will be able to roll before the end of the year. We also exclusively learned a few weeks back that about six weeks of pre-production work has already been completed on the series.

STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Concept Art Puts “Dark Rey” Beneath Kylo Ren’s Helmet

Image

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker took Daisy Ridley’s Rey to some interesting places, though her temptation to turn to the Dark Side was only given a fleeting glance in terms of screentime. When she retrieved Emperor Palpatine’s Wayfinder, she briefly saw a “Dark” version of herself.

It was never entirely clear whether that was supposed to be a glimpse at what would happen if the Emperor took her body for himself or a sneak peek at her evil side, but this newly revealed piece of concept art puts a fun spin on that by revealing a vision of Rey being beneath Kylo Ren’s helmet.

It’s a cool piece of imagery and a fun throwback to The Empire Strikes Back when Luke Skywalker cut down Darth Vader only to discover that he was the one wearing the Sith Lord’s mask.

Unfortunately, nothing quite as inventive as this ended up in The Rise of Skywalker, and with no indication that Rey planned to build a double-sided lightsaber (she did in Colin Trevorrow’s Duel of the Fates), it was hard to escape the feeling that “Dark Rey” was only there because she’d make a cool toy.

BLACK ADAM Casting Call Describes Doctor Fate As An Ageless “Master Of The Mystic Arts”

Image

A new casting call for Black Adam appears to have shed some more light on Warner Bros.’ big-screen plans for Doctor Fate, and it looks like the studio may intend to introduce the character as the DCEU’s answer to Marvel’s Doctor Strange.

The Illuminerdi reports that the WB searching for a 40-50 year old actor to play Fate, who will have a “strong supporting role” in the movie. The character is also described as an “ageless master of the mystic arts.” As any Marvel fan worth their salt will know, that’s the exact, word-for-word alias associated with one Stephen Strange.

There are some obvious similarities between Doctors Fate and Strange, but despite both being sorcerers, they are quite different in many ways. It’s nothing a bit of tweaking to the character wouldn’t fix if director Jaume Collet-Serra and writer Adam Sztykiel were tasked with giving DC’s shared movie universe its own version of the Sorcerer Supreme, however.

Star Dwayne Johnson recently updated fans on when the movie was expected to begin filming, confirming that production had been delayed until August or September. Black Adam is still currently set to hit theaters on December 22, 2021.

We recently shared some details on two scripted scenes involving JSA members and Teth Adam’s lover Adrianna Tomaz/Isis, which you can find more on right HERE.

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Casting Call Points To The Debut Of A Mysterious New Character

Image

Cameras had not started rolling on Thor: Love and Thunder when the coronavirus pandemic forced mass shut-downs throughout the film industry, but director Taika Waititi did recently reveal that he’s still working on the script from home, and it looks like Marvel Studios is continuing to search for actors to round out the supporting cast.

The Illuminderdi has shared details on a casting call for a supporting lead character named “Zappa.” Marvel is said to be looking for “a young black male, 11-12 years old, either African-American or Black-British.” The breakdown also lists this youngster as “intelligent, fearless, mature, with a good sense of humor.”

These casting calls usually use false names to hide the real identity of the character in question, so there’s a good chance this guy won’t actually be called Zappa. Regardless, the description doesn’t call any established Thor or Marvel Comics character to mind. Could this pre-teen eventually go on to suit-up with the Young Avengers, perhaps?

That’s just our theory, but it would make sense. We know Kate Bishop will be introduced in Hawkeye, there’s a good chance WandaVision will debut twins Speed and Wiccan, and Cassie Lang is already part of the MCU. We still don’t know for certain that these characters will assemble as a team, but if they do, Love and Thunder seems as good a place as any to add another member to the roster.

Do you guys think Zappa will turn out to be a familiar face, or a brand new character? Let us know in the usual place.

HARRY POTTER 8-Film Collection Enters DEG’s Watched At Home Top 20 List

Image

With theaters expected to remain closed indefinitely, DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group recently introduced the “Watched at Home Top 20” list, which would tally up the most popular titles consumed on disc and digital (excluding outside subscription-based streaming platforms).

This week, while Disney/Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker unsurprisingly remained on top, Sony’s Bad Boys for Life leapfrogged up to second with Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog, Universal’s Dolittle, and Sony’s Jumanji: The Next Level rounding out the top five.

Both Bad Boys for Life and STX’s The Gentlemen made their 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD debuts earlier this week, which should explain the big jumps for both as the Will Smith/Martin Lawrence-starrer jumped from fourth to second, while the Guy Ritchie-directed action-comedy moved up to 7th from 13th. However, while those two titles benefitted, Paramount’s Like a Boss was unable to crack the Top 20 despite also debuting on physical home media earlier this week.

There aren’t many other surprises, but the Harry Potter 8-Film Collection saw an unexpected leap into the Top 20 (coming in exactly at #20), usurping Universal’s Cats. The entire collection has been on sale for the past few weeks on most digital platforms, including iTunes and Vudu, and it looks like fans are taking advantage of the deal as they remain at home during this exceedingly trying time.

For the week of April 23, here is the ‘Watched at Home Top 20’ list:

  1. Star Wars: Ep IX – The Rise of Skywalker (Disney)
  2. Bad Boys for Life (Sony)
  3. Sonic the Hedgehog (Paramount)
  4. Dolittle (Universal)

  9. 1917 (Universal)
  10. Little Women (Sony, 2019)
