Watch: New Trailer For M. Night Shyamalan’s Terrifying Movie Old

M. Night Shyamalan is on a hot streak at the moment which looks to continue with this summer’s OldThe supernatural thriller is based on Pierre Oscar Levy and Frederik Peters’ graphic novel Sandcastle, which tells of an idyllic beach that has a dark secret – it makes people… old. In the book, we find some unwitting tourists trapped there as they rapidly age, with children growing up before their parents’ eyes and healthy adults crumbling into senility.

Shymalan is reportedly inspired by Sandcastle rather than simply retelling the story, but the core supernatural premise remains the same (though c’mon, there’s obviously going to be a twist). The first trailer was released during the Super Bowl and showed some genuinely freaky stuff, with a mother horrified that her six-year-old son is now an adult and a woman going through an accelerated pregnancy.

Today, we received an extended theatrical trailer and it’s clear that Shyamalan isn’t skimping on the existential terror. There’s something of a body horror aspect to this, too, all offset by the lush tropical backdrop of the Dominican Republic. The new promo also gives us a better look at the cast, which features Gael Garcia Bernal, Eliza Scanlen, Thomasin McKenzie, Aaron Pierre, Rufus Sewell and Embeth Davidtz (among many others).

Old

After the flops of The Last Airbender and After Earth, Shyamalan’s directorial future was looking shaky. But over the 2010s he’s been the quintessential comeback kid, with his last three movies (The VisitSplit and Glass) cumulatively grossing $625 million on relatively low budgets.

Beyond that, he’s also the executive producer of Apple TV+ show Servant, which has a been a big hit. So, fingers crossed this carries that winning run and Shymalan continues to unnerve us for years to come.

Old hits theaters on July 23rd.

Watch: Cobra Kai Season 4 Promo Teases Another Karate Kid Villain

Considering the huge numbers generated by new movies and television series across several streaming services, the holiday season is a great time to debut high profile original content.

After all, HBO Max’s Wonder Woman 1984 ended up with the largest streaming debut of any 2020 film and was just ahead of Pixar’s Soul, which made its way onto Disney Plus on the same day. Netflix’s We Can Be Heroes and Bridgerton both exploded onto the scene out of nowhere in December as well and became massive hits for the platform.

On top of that, we also got season 3 of Cobra Kai shortly after and it, too, ended up being another huge streaming success story. Thankfully, we already know that a fourth run is headed our way and today, Netflix has dropped a new promo for it, teasing the return of a Karate Kid villain.

Yes, as you can see in the video up above, that’s indeed Terry Silver, the guy who founded the Cobra Kai dojo. And he’ll be played once again by Thomas Ian Griffith.

“Since the beginning of the series, we’ve been carefully orchestrating the right moment to unleash Cobra Kai dojo co-founder Terry Silver back into the universe,” executive producers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg said in a statement. “That moment is now. We can’t wait for the whole world to experience Thomas Ian Griffith’s majestic return to the franchise.”

Of course, there were hints of Silver’s return in season 3, with the finale leaving many fans assuming that he’d indeed be involved in the next run. And sure enough, it’s now been confirmed. Unfortunately, we don’t have too many details yet on just how he’ll factor into things, but no doubt the showrunners have something exciting in store.

Cobra Kai season 4 is expected to be with us later this year, and as soon as we learn more about what’s on the cards for Mr. Silver, we’ll be sure to let you know. Until then, though, feel free to leave your own theories down below.

Watch: Henry Cavill Becomes The One In Highlander Deepfake

x

There can be only one, and it seems that it’ll be Henry Cavill.

Lionsgate is finally moving ahead with their reboot of the Highlander franchise, which has been stuck in development hell for a very long time now, with DCEU star Cavill attached to the lead role. Understandably, the internet is going crazy for the casting, and everyone’s eager to see how the Superman actor fares in the part.

Of course, we’re still a long ways away from getting any sort of glimpse in him in costume, let alone of him in action, but a new deepfake has surfaced this week which gives us at least a decent idea of what may be in store for us, and you can check it out up above.

The original 1986 pic had Mortal Kombat‘s Christopher Lambert in the lead as Connor MacLeod, though we still don’t know whether Cavill will be taking on that same role or if he’s playing someone else and the reboot will just maintain continuity with what’s come before. Either way, it’s an exciting prospect. Especially when you consider that John Wick co-director Chad Stahelski is behind the camera.

Indeed, Stahelski has proven himself as one of the action genre’s most promising filmmakers recently and has a whole slew of impressive credits under his belt both as a director and stuntman. Combine that with the fact that Cavill has already shown us that he works well in the fantasy genre – and specifically with swords and the like – in The Witcher, and Highlander looks like it’s about to make a big comeback in pop culture and find a whole new audience once the reboot eventually arrives. Whenever that may be.

Watch: Last Night In Soho Trailer Teases Edgar Wright’s New Horror Movie

Edgar Wright is one of the most exciting and inventive filmmakers in the business, but it’s been a rocky road bringing his latest effort Last Night in Soho to the big screen.

The writer/director was hot off the success of Baby Driver earning over $226 million at the box office and winning three Academy Awards when he first signalled his intentions to dive into the realms of psychological horror, with the project being announced in January 2019. Last Night in Soho came together awfully quickly after that, with shooting calling it a wrap in August.

However, the Coronavirus pandemic wreaked havoc with its release schedule, and having initially been dated for September 2020 and then April of this year, it’s now set to arrive in October, while during that time stars and former Bond Girls Diana Rigg and Margaret Nolan have both passed away.

Luckily, the trailer looks to be another home run for Wright’s filmography, as he ventures into different genre territory once again. Recent Golden Globe winning The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy headlines the ensemble as singer Sandy, who appears to have a mysterious connection to Thomasin McKenzie’s Eloise after the latter somehow winds up in 1960s London and comes face-to-face with her idol.

The footage hardly makes the ins and outs of the narrative any clearer, but Wright is famed for subverting the expected tropes and formulas on any film he makes, so nothing about Last Night in Soho promises to be straightforward. It looks weird, wild and more than a little trippy, so it’s at least perfectly befitting the reputation of Swinging Sixties London, this time with the added elements of a psychedelic, psychological cross between horror and thriller.

Watch: Karen Gillan Kicks Ass In Gunpowder Milkshake Trailer

Karen Gillan is no stranger to the world of action cinema having made four appearances so far as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Nebula, with her fifth and sixth outings on the way in Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, while she impressed with both her fight skills and comic timing in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and sequel The Next Level, resulting in billions of dollars at the box office.

However, she hasn’t been afforded the opportunity to take top billing in a violent genre pic all of her own, but that’s about to change when Gunpowder Milkshake comes to Netflix on July 14th. The streaming service shelled out over $10 million to acquire the distribution rights to Navot Papushado’s high concept thriller, but it’ll be released theatrically in international markets by STX Films.

gunpowder-milkshake

The plot is straightforward, high concept and sounds all sorts of awesome, with Gillan starring as a woman that’s followed in her mother’s footsteps by becoming an assassin, but she ends up protecting an 8 year-old girl when a job goes wrong. Seeking refuge, she enlists the help of her mom and her associates, who form a cabal of legendary contract killers known as The Librarians.

Lena Headey will play Gillan’s wayward parent, while Angela Bassett, Michelle Yeoh and Carla Gugino fill out the group, and Paul Giamatti will be devouring the scenery as the villain. The trailer looks to deliver exactly what you’d expect from a high octane action movie with a title like Gunpowder Milkshake, and having sat on the shelf for a while after production wrapped in the summer of 2019, it possess all the tools to be a major Netflix success.

Watch: Apex Legends Player Discovers Trick For Perfect Recoil Management

x

Apex Legends players looking to hone their skills in the highly competitive battle royale may have to start strengthening their wrist muscles. That’s according to a new video posted by popular content creator Torje, at least, who claims to have shared a strategy used by pros such as CLG Lou and COL Monsoon. This trick, they say, is dubbed the “Oscillation Method” and involves having the user rotate their limbs in tandem with the recoil pattern of any given weapon.

In demonstrating the process, Torje records themselves emptying a clip of the Flatline assault rifle into a wall while vibrating their wrist, the end result being a consistent circular spread with no stray bullets. We’ll get into the nitty-gritty of how to become an expert marksman in just a moment, but first, give the guide a watch for yourself above.

While it may appear to be a simple maneuver on the surface, Torje details that in order to get reliable results, players will have to adjust the speed of their wrist vibrations in line with the fully automatic or burst-type rifle currently equipped. The aforementioned Flatline, for example, fires an impressive 600 rounds-per-minute and to compensate, rotations should be performed at 10x the speed of that statistic. Ultimately, then, anyone wishing to adopt this approach would need to ‘oscillate’ ten times per second.

Not an unreachable goal by any means, though unless you see yourself making the big leagues, we’d recommend giving this one some thought if you wish to avoid incurring a repetitive strain injury, or worse. We encourage anyone not deterred by the risks, however, to let us know in the usual place below if they’ve had any success with this strange Apex Legends quirk!

Watch: First 10 Minutes Of Godzilla Vs. Kong Now Streaming Online

x

To give you an indication of just how bad the theatrical industry has been hit by the Coronavirus pandemic, the last Hollywood blockbuster to earn more money at the box office than Godzilla vs. Kong was Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which hit theaters around the world on December 20th, 2019.

Adam Wingard’s monster mash passed Bad Boys for Life‘s $426 million tally last weekend, thanks largely to a very strong showing in the rebounding Chinese market, and the numbers were even more impressive when you consider that the latest chapter in the MonsterVerse was released simultaneously on HBO Max and drew in record viewing numbers on WarnerMedia’s streaming service.

Despite all of the key creatives remaining tight-lipped on where the franchise was going following Godzilla vs. Kong, Wingard was revealed to be in talks about a return to the world of kaiju and the Hollow Earth to helm the next installment, which may or may not be Son of Kong. We probably won’t be getting further details on that for a while yet, but the epic clash of the Titans is coming to home video on June 15th, and to get the publicity train rolling, the studio have made the first ten minutes of the movie available to watch online to try and entice those who haven’t seen it.

Admittedly, the most exciting thing to happen in the first ten minutes is Kong scratching his big hairy ass, with the majority of that time being taken up by the opening credits, but it nonetheless reminds people that Godzilla vs. Kong is coming to Blu-Ray and DVD, while it’s even hanging on in the domestic box office Top 10, so there are going to be countless ways to rewatch the supersized smackdown over the next few weeks.

Watch: Chris Hemsworth Seeks Vengeance In Gladiator 2 Fan Trailer

x

Ridley Scott’s Gladiator was a massive critical and commercial hit when it landed in theaters back in May of 2000. However, it didn’t exactly scream franchise considering that the main character died after redeeming himself in the end as he got justice for the murder of his family.

Of course, its success inspired a whole slew of similar movies that sprung up in its wake, like TroyThe Last SamuraiAlexanderKing ArthurKingdom of Heaven and Robin Hood, the latter of which reunited Scott with star Russell Crowe. It’d be fair to say that none of them could reach the same heights as Gladiator, though, and to this day, it still remains a hugely popular pic.

In fact, there’s been talk of a sequel for some time now, with Nick Cave’s interesting time travel idea that would’ve had Crowe returning as Maximus and appearing at various points throughout history being mentioned a lot. Then there’s the chatter that Chris Hemsworth may be involved somehow, a concept that YouTuber StryderHD has run with in their latest video, which shows us how a sequel to the film might turn out with the Thor actor in the lead role.

Gladiator 2, Sequels

Admittedly, the trailer is a bit choppy and though it’s billed as Gladiator 2, it seems to be more of a reboot than a direct follow-up, but it’s still an intriguing taste of how Hemsworth could look in the film’s universe. As mentioned above, nothing’s officially in production just yet, but at this stage, it certainly seems likely that we’ll be seeing more from the property.

And who knows? Chris Hemsworth might be the one to lead the next chapter and put the series in front of a whole new audience, one that’s ready to be entertained.

Watch: The War Continues In Justice League 2 Fan Trailer

All of the social media campaigning in the world probably won’t change anything when it comes to Zack Snyder’s Justice League sequels and getting Warner Bros. to issue the go ahead, especially given the language used by the filmmaker to describe the studio in recent interviews.

Indeed, he’s called them “aggressively anti-Snyder” and even said that he thought he’d be sued if he publicly supported the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement. Not to mention that he described the process of completing HBO Max’s Justice League as akin to torture. Suffice it to say then, the once fruitful relationship between the two parties appears to be pretty fractured.

But that won’t stop the fans from holding out hope that maybe one day, the director will get to finish his trilogy and a new video from YouTuber Billy Crammer that you can see up above imagines what a potential sequel may look like. And we must say, it does a great job of teasing a potential Justice League 2.

It’s certainly an exciting taste of what could be, but as mentioned above, the restoration of the SnyderVerse seems like a long shot at this stage, with Zack already moving on and jumping over to Netflix to helm Army of the Dead, while WB execs have made it very clear that they have no interest in continuing the mythology he first started back in Man of Steel.

Still, stranger things have certainly happened, though until the studio changes their stance, we’ll just have to settle for fan trailers like the one above to scratch our itch for a possible Justice League 2.

Tell us, though, do you think a sequel will ever materialize? Sound off below.

Watch: Resident Evil Village Mod Makes Lady Dimitrescu’s Hat Grow To Enormous Sizes

x

The Resident Evil franchise is no stranger to the modding community. While the vast majority of mods simply put the series’ heroines into ever-skimpier outfits, my favorites are the surreal and disturbing ones. That’s how you end up getting pursued through the Raccoon City Police Department by a very angry Thomas the Tank EngineResident Evil Village has been no exception, of course, with even the demo seeing a lot of weird and wonderful alterations.

But a new one might be one of the strangest yet. Released by modder Kallialee, the mod makes Lady Dimitrescu’s hat grow in size every time you look at her. Her stylish accessory has become somewhat iconic ever since her unveiling earlier this year, but by the time this mod’s through with her, the villain will be more hat than woman.

Streamers have already been playing with the mod equipped and after a couple of hours sneaking around Castle Dimitrescu, the headpiece can grow ridiculously huge to the point where it looks like you’re being chased by a hat with legs. As you may guess, this makes the game substantially less frightening and more comedic, and it’s well worth checking out.

If your tastes run to the bizarre, I’d recommend another recent mod that replaces player character Ethan’s baby with Chris Redfield, creating a nightmarish special ops soldier/infant hybrid that has to be seen to be believed.

Resident Evil Village is only a few weeks old and so the modding scene is still young, but I can’t wait to see what they come up with next. Whatever it is, it’s a safe bet it’ll be something more monstrous and strange than what lurks in the dark corners of the vanilla game.
