Watch: Chris Hemsworth Seeks Vengeance In Gladiator 2 Fan Trailer

x

Ridley Scott’s Gladiator was a massive critical and commercial hit when it landed in theaters back in May of 2000. However, it didn’t exactly scream franchise considering that the main character died after redeeming himself in the end as he got justice for the murder of his family.

Of course, its success inspired a whole slew of similar movies that sprung up in its wake, like TroyThe Last SamuraiAlexanderKing ArthurKingdom of Heaven and Robin Hood, the latter of which reunited Scott with star Russell Crowe. It’d be fair to say that none of them could reach the same heights as Gladiator, though, and to this day, it still remains a hugely popular pic.

In fact, there’s been talk of a sequel for some time now, with Nick Cave’s interesting time travel idea that would’ve had Crowe returning as Maximus and appearing at various points throughout history being mentioned a lot. Then there’s the chatter that Chris Hemsworth may be involved somehow, a concept that YouTuber StryderHD has run with in their latest video, which shows us how a sequel to the film might turn out with the Thor actor in the lead role.

Gladiator 2, Sequels

Admittedly, the trailer is a bit choppy and though it’s billed as Gladiator 2, it seems to be more of a reboot than a direct follow-up, but it’s still an intriguing taste of how Hemsworth could look in the film’s universe. As mentioned above, nothing’s officially in production just yet, but at this stage, it certainly seems likely that we’ll be seeing more from the property.

And who knows? Chris Hemsworth might be the one to lead the next chapter and put the series in front of a whole new audience, one that’s ready to be entertained.

Watch: The War Continues In Justice League 2 Fan Trailer

All of the social media campaigning in the world probably won’t change anything when it comes to Zack Snyder’s Justice League sequels and getting Warner Bros. to issue the go ahead, especially given the language used by the filmmaker to describe the studio in recent interviews.

Indeed, he’s called them “aggressively anti-Snyder” and even said that he thought he’d be sued if he publicly supported the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement. Not to mention that he described the process of completing HBO Max’s Justice League as akin to torture. Suffice it to say then, the once fruitful relationship between the two parties appears to be pretty fractured.

But that won’t stop the fans from holding out hope that maybe one day, the director will get to finish his trilogy and a new video from YouTuber Billy Crammer that you can see up above imagines what a potential sequel may look like. And we must say, it does a great job of teasing a potential Justice League 2.

It’s certainly an exciting taste of what could be, but as mentioned above, the restoration of the SnyderVerse seems like a long shot at this stage, with Zack already moving on and jumping over to Netflix to helm Army of the Dead, while WB execs have made it very clear that they have no interest in continuing the mythology he first started back in Man of Steel.

Still, stranger things have certainly happened, though until the studio changes their stance, we’ll just have to settle for fan trailers like the one above to scratch our itch for a possible Justice League 2.

Tell us, though, do you think a sequel will ever materialize? Sound off below.

Watch: Resident Evil Village Mod Makes Lady Dimitrescu’s Hat Grow To Enormous Sizes

x

The Resident Evil franchise is no stranger to the modding community. While the vast majority of mods simply put the series’ heroines into ever-skimpier outfits, my favorites are the surreal and disturbing ones. That’s how you end up getting pursued through the Raccoon City Police Department by a very angry Thomas the Tank EngineResident Evil Village has been no exception, of course, with even the demo seeing a lot of weird and wonderful alterations.

But a new one might be one of the strangest yet. Released by modder Kallialee, the mod makes Lady Dimitrescu’s hat grow in size every time you look at her. Her stylish accessory has become somewhat iconic ever since her unveiling earlier this year, but by the time this mod’s through with her, the villain will be more hat than woman.

Streamers have already been playing with the mod equipped and after a couple of hours sneaking around Castle Dimitrescu, the headpiece can grow ridiculously huge to the point where it looks like you’re being chased by a hat with legs. As you may guess, this makes the game substantially less frightening and more comedic, and it’s well worth checking out.

If your tastes run to the bizarre, I’d recommend another recent mod that replaces player character Ethan’s baby with Chris Redfield, creating a nightmarish special ops soldier/infant hybrid that has to be seen to be believed.

Resident Evil Village is only a few weeks old and so the modding scene is still young, but I can’t wait to see what they come up with next. Whatever it is, it’s a safe bet it’ll be something more monstrous and strange than what lurks in the dark corners of the vanilla game.

Watch: The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem Trailer Teases The New Game

The Addams Family is making a return to video games later this year. The household, renowned for its love of all things macabre and oblivious to its various members’ unconventional appearances, is being adapted by Outright Games for an upcoming 3D platformer. Mansion Mayhem is scheduled for release this fall for consoles and PC and will give fans the opportunity to fill the shoes of Wednesday, Pugsley, Gomez and Morticia in four player co-op.

By utilizing each character’s unique abilities (Gomez’s Mazurka Saber and Wednesday’s pet octopus Socrates are two examples given by the studio) you’ll solve “magical mysteries” and discover secrets buried in the mansion’s darkest depths kept safe by devilish puzzles. There is, of course, the option of enjoying the entire adventure solo, though the developer doesn’t make clear how controlling all four family members will work when not playing online.

For those who find the art style familiar, it’s not just you. Outright says its original story is based on the existing animated movie franchise and aims to have Mansion Mayhem available in time for Halloween. Today’s trailer notes September 24th as the release window for Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC, though as always, delays can happen, so don’t be surprised if that date slips by a few weeks.

In related news, an Addams Family spinoff from Tim Burton focused on the character Wednesday is currently in the works for Netflix. While no casting choices have been confirmed, Christina Ricci is rumored to be in the running to play Wednesday’s mother Morticia in the live-action series. See here for everything we know about the project so far.

Watch: Resident Evil Village Modders Are Working On A Third-Person Mode

x

Resident Evil Village has attracted acclaim from gamers and critics alike since it launched earlier this month – and shipped an impressive 3.5 million copies – but not everyone is happy with the end result.

Capcom’s somewhat controversial decision to reimagine the franchise as a first-person experience with 2017’s soft reboot remains a contentious turn-off for many veteran fans who would prefer a return to the classic formula. The studio’s recent spate of remakes retains that same perspective, of course, though no such option is present in the second chapter of Ethan Winters’ story. And what with the likelihood of an official patch introducing the feature being almost nil, modders have now taken on the task of making the sequel playable from over the shoulder themselves.

Owing to the fact that this is an unofficial update, prolific community member FluffyQuack warns that getting such a fundamental gameplay change in full working order is a project of almost herculean proportions. Indeed, as of writing, no functioning/publicly available version of the mod exists, with the footage on display above purposely recorded during the House Beneviento portion of Village due to its complete lack of combat.

Interacting with objects in the environment as well as reliably being able to aim and shoot enemies are two of the toughest hurdles needing to be overcome, says FluffyQuack, and it’ll be interesting to see if either or both are even surmountable. Assuming all goes well, the “very experimental” venture will likely show up for download at a later date.

Resident Evil Village is out now for Xbox One, Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and PC, and if you haven’t done so already, you can see here for WGTC’s review.

Watch: New Space Jam: A New Legacy TV Spot Teases More Granny

Space Jam: A New Legacy is going to be one weird ride. The sequel to the much-loved 1996 classic replaces Michael Jordan with LeBron James and seems as if it’ll feature every single character in the vast Warner Bros. IP stable. In the first trailer, we saw (among others) Scooby-Doo, the Thundercats, the Joker, the Mask and, in a surreal twist, Alex DeLarge and his droogs from Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange.

A new TV spot for the sequel dropped during last night’s MTV Movie & TV Awards, giving us a further look at what’s coming this summer. Much of it was footage we’ve already seen showing Granny and her allegedly hilarious age-inappropriate antics, but there were also some new shots of Tweety’s futile attempt at defense, and a little reference to the Secret Stuff from the original.

One thing of note is that a fan claims to have spotted the Animaniacs in the background of one of the shots, though at this resolution it’s impossible to say whether it’s them or not. It’d be weird if they didn’t make some kind of appearance in the movie, but I’d like to hope they get more than a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in the crowd.

We also now know the broad strokes of the plot. We’ll see LeBron and his son Dom sucked into a digital world by a malevolent AI (voiced by Don Cheadle), with their only path to escape via a basketball game against a squad of cheat-happy computer-generated opponents. But they won’t be standing alone, as the summary explains:

“It’s Tunes versus Goons in the highest-stakes challenge of his life, that will redefine LeBron’s bond with his son and shine a light on the power of being yourself. The ready-for-action Tunes destroy convention, supercharge their unique talents and surprise even “King” James by playing the game their own way.”

Finally, a kid’s movie about the power of being yourself – a crucial message in difficult times.

Space Jam: A New Legacy will be out in theaters and on HBO Max on July 16th.

Watch: The Walking Dead Season 11 Promo Returns To The Commonwealth

AMC has released a short new in-production teaser that reminds us work is underway on the eleventh and final season of The Walking Dead. The post-apocalyptic drama returned for six fresh episodes earlier this year, but these were specially produced during the pandemic to keep fans ticking over. Season 11 will return to the full scope and scale of the series as we’re used to it and, according to one star of the show in this new promo, it’ll feel like a movie.

The teaser gives us a glimpse behind the scenes of the last run’s opening two-parter, promising that it will head back to the Commonwealth, where Eugene (Josh McDermitt) and the others remain incarcerated. In contrast to season 10C, these episodes will be typical ensemble pieces, with Eleanor Matsuura (Yumiko), Paola Lazaro (Princess) and Khary Payton (Ezekiel) also shown to be goofing around on set. In fact, Payton is heard to say that he feels like he’s in a cinematic production.

The Commonwealth is expected to be a major driving force of season 11, with the enormous community – the biggest in the TWD universe – serving as the main setting for the final arc of the comic book series. It would be difficult to realize this storyline with the kind of lower key episodes produced for season 10C, so it’s good news that the new run will return to normal. Showrunner Angela Kang has previously teased that the opener will feature “tons of zombies and lots of action and fun and intrigue, and locations we’ve never seen.”

As this promo reminds us, The Walking Dead is due to return to AMC to kick off its super-sized 24-episode final season on August 22nd. It’ll then carry on through 2022 before spinoffs like Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride’s show and anthology Tales of the Walking Dead debut later that year.

Watch: Resident Evil Village Mod Replaces Enemies With Scream’s Ghostface

x

Modders are having an absolute field day with Resident Evil Village.

Capcom’s survival horror franchise has proven to be a particularly popular pick for hobbyist content creators since the release of the RE2 remake back in 2019, which saw one of the game’s major antagonists, Mr. X, outfitted in all sorts of fan-made costumes. Others went one step further by replacing the intimidating Tyrant with different characters entirely, mostly to humorous effect. Nemesis would ultimately receive similar treatment 12 months later with the retelling of Jill Valentine’s own escape from Raccoon City and now, it’s the turn of this year’s installment to get some equally ridiculous adjustments.

GeorgeIEoo’s creation, for instance, as depicted in the video above, completely replaces Village‘s Moroaica enemies with one of the slasher genre’s most iconic villains.

Admittedly, Scream‘s Ghostface appears more comedic than scary here due to the height mismatch, but if you’re searching for the means to spice up repeated playthroughs of Ethan Winters’ adventure, look no further. In fact, if you’ve no qualms about throwing immersion out the window, there are plenty of optional extras to choose from. Another mod released earlier this week allows users to replace Chris Redfield’s chiseled features with those of Albert Wesker, changing the jaw-dropping opening scene’s tone.

As for those of you still tentatively moving through Resident Evil Village‘s campaign for the first time, you can get help with some of the sequel’s toughest segments by checking out our boss guides for Mother Miranda’s minions, Donna Beneviento and Heisenberg by hitting the respective links. Likewise, if you’re constantly finding yourself strapped for cash and unable to upgrade your gear with the Duke, see here for our treasure guide. Good luck!

Watch: First 15 Minutes Of Army Of The Dead Tease Zombie Mayhem

x

The opening 15 minutes of Army of the Dead have been released online. Fresh off the release of his extended cut of Justice League on HBO Max a couple of months ago, Zack Snyder fans can’t wait for his first collaboration with Netflix, which takes the form of a zombie/heist mash-up thriller starring Dave Bautista.

Ahead of its debut in limited theaters tomorrow and arrival on streaming next week, Netflix has now made the movie’s first 15 minutes available to watch on YouTube (see above). The streamer hosted a live event for fans this Thursday afternoon, which saw Snyder and the cast – including Bautista – shepherding livestreamers through a first-person, video game-like recreation of the film’s plot. Once fans watched the half-hour experience, they were then redirected to the exclusive link to Army of the Dead‘s action-packed opening scenes.

The movie follows a group of mercenaries, led by Bautista’s Scott Ward, who embark on a dangerous but lucrative mission – to undertake a heist on a Las Vegas casino during a zombie outbreak. The Guardians of the Galaxy actor is joined by the likes of Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Theo Rossi, Hiroyuki Sanada, Matthias Schweighöfer, Tig Notaro and Garret Dillahunt.

Remember, Netflix isn’t just waiting to see how this one does before launching a franchise around it, as they have so much faith in Snyder’s movie that two spinoffs are already in the works. Schweighöfer is set to return to not just reprise his character in a prequel film, titled Army of Thieves, but he’s also on board to direct the project, too. What’s more, anime-style spinoff series Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas is likewise in development.

Army of the Dead is set to premiere on Friday, May 21st on Netflix, but will be in theaters starting tomorrow.

Watch: The F-Bombs Fly In New Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard Trailer

2017’s The Hitman’s Bodyguard combined the powers of Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson to deliver an entertaining action-comedy and now – four years later – the duo are back for The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, which sees Salma Hayek get a bigger chunk of the action this time, too. A month after the first trailer for the sequel arrived, Reynolds has debuted a new red band promo for the movie, which teases another winning blend of R-rated violence, strong language and hilarity.

“I never know if we’re filming or if this stuff just happens when you hang out with [Samuel L. Jackson] and [Salma Hayek],” the actor joked in his caption to the promo, which he shared on Twitter this morning.

Years after the events of the first film, Reynolds’ Michael Bryce is on a sabbatical from his job when his life becomes intertwined with the Kincaids once again as Sonia (Hayek) recruits him to help her stop an assassination attempt on her husband Darius (Jackson). Complications arise, though, due to Bryce’s sabbatical meaning he’s not licensed to use any firearms, forcing him to get creative as he fights to protect the Kincaids and save the day.

Gary Oldman played the villain in the last movie and this time that role is filled by Antonio Banderas. Frank Grillo, Richard E. Grant and Morgan Freeman are also in the cast. Say what you like about these pics, but they definitely offer up more A-list actors for your buck than most.

2021 is a busy year for all three of this film’s leads. Ryan Reynolds has two other projects coming out over the next few months – Netflix’s Red Notice and the video game-themed Free Guy – and Salma Hayek stars in Marvel’s Eternals and Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci, both arriving in November. Samuel L. Jackson, meanwhile, can be seen in Spiral: From The Book of Saw later this week.

The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is scheduled to hit theaters next month, on June 16th.
