Watch This Hilarious Squid Game Parody Starring Tobey Maguire

You can’t escape Squid Game these days, whether it’s people talking about the show, news outlets analyzing the show, or people creating amazing parodies featuring unlikely pop culture characters (here’s a good one starring Toy Story toys).

The latest parody is surprisingly hilarious. It’s a mashup of Tobey Maguire in different Spider-Man scenes pasted into pivotal Squid Game. It shouldn’t work at all, but for some reason it really does.

The clip comes courtesy of Instagram handle tobeymmemes, an account with more than 45,000 followers.

In the clip, Maguire plays the deadly red light, green light game from the show, but he zaps the killer robot’s eyes with web fluid and coasts past the line. Then he laughs when the rest of the contestants are shot down.

It gets wackier from there. The clip shows some real comedic timing and it’s almost too fun to spoil what happens.

Maguire has been in the news quite a bit lately following news that he’s going to appear alongside Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home movie.

In the movie, Peter Parker’s identity as Spider-Man is revealed and he seeks out Dr. Strange to see if he can use his magical powers to reverse the identity revelation.

Strange messes up and inadvertently unleashes a slew of Spider-Man characters from the past, including those from the pre MCU days, when Maguire played the character.

That movie is slated for a December 17 release.

Even Fox Sports got in on the Squid Game parody parade. On Fox NFL Sunday, different franchises get ridiculed for their “disastrous” four-week starts.

Lion King Fans Are Learning The Hard Way That Pumbaa Wouldn’t Be Friendly In This Viral Video

We’ll admit that Disney’s 1994 classic The Lion King is a masterpiece of a film that marries epic drama, breathtaking animations, impossibly catchy music, and a star-studded cast. The photorealistic computer animated 2019 reboot by Jon Favreau certainly exists as well, we suppose.

But if there’s one thing the musical set in African and loosely based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet does not get right, however, it’s the depiction of its wild animal protagonists doing everything from breaking out into song to engaging in quippy dialogue to an apex predator like the lion Simba befriending his would-be prey, the jovial warthog Pumbaa and meerkat Timon.

After someone met a very Pumbaa-looking warthog in the wild, however, they found out the hard way that this creature had exactly a 0% of singing showtunes any time soon, as a rather hilarious video making the rounds on Twitter indicates:

While the video itself is pretty hilarious and is worthy of a “trending” notice on Twitter in and of itself, people’s reactions to the clip are proving to be the comedy gift that keeps on giving. People’s reactions have ranged from people criticizing the incorrect spelling of “Pumba” (with one “a”) to those pointing out the utter stupidity of using a cartoon as a wildlife guide. And even in the film, Pumbaa could get his hands dirty.

They call him Mr. Pig, after all.

This is your last warning, safari seekers.

*Homer Simpson voice* Mmmmm… Pumbaa bacon…. *drools*

We needed a video to learn not to mess with wildlife?

What do the people running Twitter even do all day?

Say his name.

This is no time for songs.

RIP Timon.

Check Out This Creepy Toy Story/Squid Game Mash Up

Ever since Squid Game was released last month, it’s been all over the media landscape. The show is a bonafide phenomenon, breaking streaming records and quickly becoming one of the most popular shows of all time.

Now we’re starting to see the inevitable parodies roll in. The latest eye-opening parody mashup comes from Mark Cannataro Films, a content creator based in Toronto that specializes in 3D animation.

The film features Toy Story characters participating in the “Red Light, Green Light” game from the show.

All of the Toy Story favorites are here, including Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Mr. Potato Head, and Bo Peep. They run the gauntlet while bad guys like Zurg and the little green army men fire darts to eliminate them. Sid, the bad kid from the movies, wears a mask like the Front Man before revealing his signature braces-filled snarl while Red Light, Green Light, a Limp Bizkit song, plays in the background. It’s fairly creepy.

The parodied scene is the first shocking, brutal section of the show, where a large number of people playing the game are suddenly murdered, and the stakes of the situation they’re in become unavoidably clear. Fortunately, the Toy Story version is more innocuous, trading out foam darts for life-taking bullets.

Mark Cannataro Films has done other videos with characters from the Super Mario universe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Batman.

Anyone who’s now wishing there was more spooky Toy Story action for Halloween is in luck — Toy Story of Terror is currently available to stream on Disney+. Squid Game is currently streaming on Netflix.

Watch — The First Four Minutes Of New Aquaman: King Of Atlantis Animated Series

x

HBO Max has shared an extended preview of its new limited animated series Aquaman: King of Atlantis, and it’s quite the departure from the silver screen version of the character.

The three-part mini-series tells the story of Aquaman just as he’s ascended to the throne as king of the ocean. It stars Cooper Andrews (Shazam) as King Aquaman, Gillian Jacobs (Community), and Thomas Lennon (Reno 911).

While Aquaman the movie was a tentpole DC movie, Aquaman: King of Atlantis is a hilarious departure from that serious superhero tone. In fact, it’s reminiscent of Adult Swim properties like Adventure Time and Regular Show.

In the preview, we see King Aquaman in his court trying and failing to fit into his new throne. He addresses his subjects (who are unimpressed with him) while interacting with his two aides.

The show’s contrast to the movies doesn’t mean it’s not connected. James Wan, the director of both Aquaman and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, is the executive producer of the series. The show’s meant to be a more lighthearted take on the Aquaman universe.

The show’s plot centers around King Aquaman’s struggles to reign over the underwater kingdom and keep his half-brother Orm (Dana Snyder as the Ocean Master) from retaking the throne.

Showrunners include Victor Courtright and Marly Halpern-Graser, and Sam Register, and Rob Hackett are fellow executive producers along with Wan.

Courtright and Halpern-Graser said they wanted to find a nice middle ground between the DCEU Aquaman, played by Jason Momoa, and the more traditional versions of the character.

“Because you can’t ignore that aspect of Aquaman’s history, we tried to take the cooler, more grounded Aquaman that is becoming the way people think of him and just put him in a sort of goofy sort of cartoony world and have him bristle at that a little bit,” Halpern-Graser said. “Because he’s sort of a serious guy, and he doesn’t totally love how silly the world around him is. And he’s a little bit the audience’s point of view.”

The first episode is called “Chapter One: Dead Sea” and it will be out on October 14th, followed by “Chapter Two: Primordeus” on October 21st, and Chapter Three: Tidal Shift” on October 28th. HBO Max will air all episodes.

Watch: Netflix’s Squid Game Releases Jaw-Dropping Behind The Scenes Video

x

Netflix’s Squid Game is taking the world by storm and on track to becoming the streaming service’s most-viewed show of all time. Now, fans of the show are being treated to a behind-the-scenes video that was released today by Netflix Korea, which you can view above.

The is based on the premise of cash-strapped contestants getting recruited by a shadow organization into a macabre contest for a life-changing sum of cash as the reward. Unbeknownst to the contestants at first, it swirls around a series of children’s games whose consequence for losing results in the loss of lives.

It’s one of those shows that accomplishes what many great pieces of fiction do: it makes you feel sympathy for characters you once thought villainous and it makes you question the moral integrity of characters you once thought were one of the heroes. Like Game of Thrones in its hey-dey, or Orange Is the New Black, the various ups and downs of each character and the uncertainty of whether we will even locate a singular protagonist who we can put our full trust in becomes part of the fun of continuing to watch it.

The video offers a fascinating glimpse into the creation of the imaginative and visually stunning show, including the kinetic and breathtaking work of the actors and cameramen during the high energy Red Light Green Light game scenes, a wider view of the urban area in which that game was filmed, some interesting time lapses of the building of sets related to the games, as well as some behind-the-scenes glimpses at some of the underground segments of the show.

You can check out Squid Game right now on Netflix.

Watch: Rockstar Officially Reveals Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Remaster With New Trailer

It’s official: a classic Grand Theft Auto trilogy is coming to almost every conceivable modern gaming platform, reportedly with graphical and gameplay improvements beginning later this year.

Per a teaser trailer released by Rockstar Games, which you can view above, the games will include the first three mainline home console games that first ventured into fully 3D: Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

The release, which is called Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, will reportedly be coming to PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC in late 2021, with iOS and Android releases coming in 2022.

Rockstar Games reportedly said that despite improvements to how it plays and looks, it will still stay true to its original incarnations.

grand theft auto trilogy

The series originally began way back in 1997 with the original Grand Theft Auto for PS1, taking a top-down perspective that utilized some 3D elements but was by and large 2D overall. A sequel utilizing that same style was then released in 1999 on PS1 and Dreamcast.

It wasn’t until 2001’s Grand Theft Auto III for the PS2 that the series truly revolutionized gaming as we know it, utilizing a fully rendered, immerse, polygonal open world where players could choose to progress through the story missions if they wanted to, or simply play around in the vast sandbox bringing mayhem to Liberty City.

The franchise has proven to be hugely influential and remains a success to this day, with its latest installment, Grand Theft Auto V, becoming the fastest-selling entertainment product in history when it was released back in 2013.

Watch: New Trailer & Opening For Blade Runner: Black Lotus + New Key Visuals

x

A new anime series based on the Blade Runner franchise is coming to the Toonami block of Adult Swim.

The show’s called Blade Runner: Black Lotus and it’s set after the events in the anime short Blade Runner: Black Out 2022 but before the events in the Blade Runner 2049 movie. Instead of focusing on the private detective angle, Black Lotus is told from the perspective of the replicants.

The show is the result of a partnership between Adult Swim and Alcon Entertainment. It has 13 episodes and will feature familiar characters from the series. You can check out new key visuals for the show below:

The original Blade Runner movie, starring Harrison Ford, was a hit when it came out in 1982. It’s set in a dystopian, neon future where synthetic humans named replicants are manufactured by an evil entity called the Tyrell Corporation. It’s based on a Philip K. Dick short story called Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

The anime’s style is sleek and modern looking, with the same drippy, noir feel of the original. It stars (English/Japanese) Jessica Henwick/Arisa Shida as main character Elle, Will Yun Lee/Shinshu Fuji as junkyard owner Joseph and Samira Wiley/Takako Honda as a young LAPD recruit.

Details of the plot are fairly vague so far, but we do know that Elle wants revenge and to “kill them all” for something that happened to her, but we don’t know exactly what that is. Perhaps we can figure out a few more hints from the opening to the show that Crunchyroll just shared as well.

Blade Runner: Black Lotus is directed by Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama. Shinichiro Watanabe, famous anime director behind Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, serves as a creative producer.

The show will air on Adult Swim’s Toonami block with an English dub and on Crunchyroll in Japanese with subtitles. Pop singer Alessia Cara performs the opening song Feel You Now.

The show premieres at midnight on November 13 on both platforms.

Watch: Back 4 Blood Launch Trailer

x

A new trailer for Back 4 Blood anticipates shooting, slashing, and a lot more shooting to come in the upcoming cooperative survival game.

The title is developed by Turtle Rock Studios, the team behind Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. The studio split from Valve in 2010, losing the rights to the cult classic zombie co-op survival shooter, and would go on to develop Evolve. Now, the studio returns to zombie-bound co-op with what’s been heralded as the spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead.

Back 4 Blood will support 4 player co-op and 8 player PvP. It introduces a novel mechanic with deck-building, equipping players with stat-enhancing cards during combat. Described as a rogue-lite system, the mechanic aims to change up each playthrough by favoring different builds and styles of combat each run.

But perhaps the biggest change is the tonal shift of Back 4 Blood. While Left 4 Dead was grim, even haunting at times, Back 4 Blood is more colorful. It’s even in the tagline: Come Slay With Us. The “us” you play as are a group called the Cleaners while humans take the upper hand in the larger fight to rid their world of zombie hordes. You’ll be able to play as eight different Cleaners in the campaign, one of whom, “Mom,” is notably voiced by Barbara Crampton.

Back 4 Blood launches on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, the Xbox family of systems, and Game Pass on October 12th Early access opens on October 8th for those who pre-order the Deluxe or Ultimate editions.
