Morbius Fans Can’t Get Over Michael Keaton’s Return As The Vulture

michael keaton

Just what cinematic universe, exactly, is Morbius supposed to take place in?

That’s a question nobody but MCU boss Kevin Feige and Sony’s shepherds of their counterpart SpideyVerse can answer and, truth be told, both parties are probably delighting in the obscene amount of misdirection currently going on. Mystery builds excitement, after all, and Feige knows that better than anyone, what with Spider-Man: No Way Home continuing to dominate entertainment channels across the internet.

Superhero fans are a crafty bunch, however, and have already dedicated considerable time towards trying to suss out why Michael Keaton is taking a vacation from the MCU to appear in Morbius.

Is the Vulture’s presence here intended to be as a cameo or brief, inconsequential part, or is Morbius laying the foundations for something far, far bigger in scope? Here’s what the internet has to say…

Morbius hits theaters next year, Jan. 28, just several weeks after Spider-Man: No Way Home. Will the latter serve as a setup for the former and explain away Keaton’s continuity-spanning influence? We’re going to assume the answer to that is a big fat yes, but what about you? Sound off with your own theories in the usual place below!

Watch: Marvel’s Eternals Goes Full Bollywood In New Clip Featuring Kumail Nanjiani

x

Marvel has been incredibly keen to stress the individual personalities of its all-powerful Eternals cast. That’s not particularly surprising, considering the film boasts a cast of total newcomers to the MCU, but will one film be enough to endear these immortal warriors to the masses?

The jury’s still out on that one, though, with the latest details to surface online suggesting that a sequel may never actually be necessary, this one-shot could be the only opportunity Marvel fans get, to partake in a meet-and-greet with the Deviants’ mortal enemies.

Credit where it’s due, however, Kumail Nanjiani, who plays Kingo — a fame-obsessed hero able to shoot energy projectiles from his digits — is bursting with charisma, and that’s no less evident than with this latest clip. Check it out for yourselves above.

Nanjiani revealed in a Good Morning America interview on Monday that rehearsing the Bollywood dance took a painstaking four months of rehearsals, and the end result looks fantastic.

Eternals opens in theaters this coming Friday, Nov. 5. Can the Phase 4 flick defy disappointing early critical reviews and garner impressive scores from the public? We’ll just have to wait and see. Will you be there on release day? Let us know in the usual place below!

Watch: Morbius Descends In First Official Trailer

x

Of all the characters Sony could’ve chosen to bolster its fledgling Spider-Man universe, Morbius seems like a strange pick indeed. While the character certainly has his fair share of fans, it’s hardly a stretch to label the reluctant vampire as anything other than obscure when compared to other villains and anti-heroes from the Wall-Crawler’s rogue’s gallery.

Then again, Sony, despite developing the film in association with Marvel, is hamstrung by who (or what) it’s allowed to show on screen, so settling on poor Michael Morbius’ tragic battle with a degenerative blood disease isn’t altogether unexpected.

Besides, judging by today’s trailer, it’s looking like the chronological follow-up to Venom: Let There Be Carnage is shaping up to be worth the price of admission. Check it out for yourselves above.

Starring Jared Leto in the title role alongside Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal and Tyrese Gibson, Morbius, presumably, will serve as an origin story for the character. Sony is taking cues from Feige’s MCU by keeping plot details tightly under wraps, and while fans now have a better idea of what to expect thanks to today’s appetizer, there’s still a laundry list of questions left unanswered.

With any luck, the gates should be thrown wide open sooner rather than later.

Morbius opens in theaters on January 28, 2022.

Watch: Friday The 13th Fan Film Sequel Trailer

x

After years of stagnation in theaters due to a complicating, ongoing legal battle surrounding intellectual property rights, the fans are now taking it into their own hands to reach through depths of development hell and pull Jason Voorhees from the inferno to revive the much-beloved Friday the 13th universe in the form of the continuation of a fan film interpretation of the franchise.

As you can see in the above trailer, Here Comes the Night: Part 2 continues the tale introduced in the 2019 fan film. In fact, you can view the entire 25-minute film Here Comes the Night: Part 2 for free on YouTube right here.

The film is produced by Jason Kays and directed by Tim McCormack. It boasts some ’80s VHS camp, with generous splashes of blood and corny acting to boot.

Co-written by McCormack and Kays, the film stars McCormack, Tim Haag, Sarah K Wolf, Jason Kays, and Salina Vela.

The official franchise’s stalemate in court is still ongoing, despite the news that the franchise’s screenwriter, Victor Miller, has recently won a copyright termination appeal in court to reclaim domestic rights. Therefore, it may be some time before we see the Camp Crystal Lake killer on the screen again in an official installment until the battle between the film’s original director and its screenwriter finishes in court.

Sadly, we haven’t seen a Friday the 13th film since the 2009 reboot. Thank goodness for fans bringing us more Jason thrills in the void left by movie studios.

Watch: Deku Battles Rody In New My Hero Academia World Heroes’ Mission Clip

x

Hold onto your hats My Hero Academia fans because we just got a chance to see a bit of World HeroesMission before it premieres in the US! An exclusive clip was released that shows Deku taking on Rody in the new film. You can give it a look above.

While the first trailer for the movie simply showed Rody running away from Deku, now we have greater context for the scene and have a better idea of how he might go from being a minor antagonist to supporting the protagonists going forward.

This new clip comes fresh off the heels of the My Hero Academia World Heroes’ Mission red carpet event where we got to see interviews with voice actors for the film, fans, and more. One of the best parts of the event, however, was that fans were also treated to an 8-minute preview of the movie. If you’re not afraid of spoilers, you can also check out that clip below courtesy of Funimation.

We do have a few other details about the film before the release. Jeremy Kraatz, who worked on the English scripts of past My Hero Academia seasons and films, revealed that the movie has an important post-pandemic message during a panel at New York Comic Con.

”As far as a message, there’s a moment where Ochako says ‘I’m not going to give up because Deku wouldn’t give up.’ Which is such an Ochako thing to say. And like we were talking about, its been a rough couple of years and that is such an important message from the series as whole: not giving up, trusting your friends, being the hero who you can be even if it’s not a super hero.”

We already know the film dominated theaters in Japan so make sure to get your tickets for My Hero Academia World Heroes’ Mission tos ee it in theaters now.

Watch: Latest Eternals Video Introduces Us To Sprite

Marvel’s Eternals might just have the biggest ensemble cast outside of the Avengers movies. In fact, the MCU’s latest superhero team has an even larger lineup than the OG Avengers (and the Guardians of the Galaxy). In total, there are 10 of the titular immortal warriors, so prepare to meet a load of new characters in director Chloe Zhao’s incoming franchise debut.

While the likes of Ikaris (Richard Madden), Sersi (Gemma Chan), and Thena (Angelina Jolie) have grabbed the lion’s share of the marketing, one character who’s been a little overlooked is Sprite, as played by Lia McHugh. So who is Sprite? Marvel has just shared this new promo for the film which tells you all you need to know about the youngest — at least in looks — Eternal.

Check out the latest Marvel 101 video via the tweet below:

The video describes Sprite as the “grandiose storyteller” of the group, thanks to her ability to cast “lifelike illusions” that she uses to entertain, who just so happens to look like a 13-year-old girl. On the inside she’s ancient, however, which we’re told has led her to develop “a world-weary sadness” after centuries of being dismissed as a child. Because of this, Sprite longs to return to the Eternals’ homeworld of Olympia.

This Marvel 101 recap is helpful to those unfamiliar with the Eternals and also comic book readers, as the team are being much changed for the screen. Sprite is one of three gender-flipped Eternals, for instance, with Ajak (Salma Hayek), and Makkari (Lauren Ridloff) also portrayed as male in the comic books. Likewise, the Eternals aren’t from another planet in the source material, though they are given their powers by the Celestials, just as in the MCU.

Don’t miss Marvel’s Eternals when it opens in theaters next Friday, November 5.

Watch: New Shaman King Trailer Teases Mt. Osore Revoir Arc

x

While many fans grew up watching the famous 4Kids dub of Shaman King, it was incredibly exciting to see the manga get a second chance at an adaptation in 2021. Now, that remake is about to hit a major story arc the original never got to cover — Mt. Osore Revoir.

The arc covers one of the most emotional moments between Yoh and his oversoul Matamune and will be adapted in episodes 30-33 which are set to begin airing on November 4th. You can check out the new trailer above.

A new visual for the arc was also revealed which can be viewed below.

Hideyuki Tanaka is set to reprise his role from the Shaman King audio drama as Matamune while Hao Asakura will be voiced by Hiroki Nanami.

There is no word yet on when the English dubs of these new Shaman King episodes will hit Netflix.

Watch: Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City Director Says Leon Kennedy Will Be A Nerdy, Reluctant Hero

x

Survival horror fans who are hoping to get more out of the upcoming Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City movie than the schlocky action flicks of past installments should be relieved to hear the upcoming film will apparently put a good amount of focus on character development this time around.

You check out for yourself how writer and director Johannes Roberts is apparently trying to take his approach to Leon Kennedy back to his roots as he was portrayed in Resident Evil 2 in the above character vignette.

While Leon, played by Avan Jogia, is often seen as an action hero by fans, the character didn’t start out that way, Roberts said. In the origin film, we will get to see Leon’s “journey” from a “nerdy, reluctant hero” to a self-assured, zombie-slaying agent.

“It was really important to cast the actor that could bring Leon Kennedy to life,” Roberts said.

Addressing the issue of some of the actors’ lack of resemblance to their video game counterparts, such as is the case with Jogia’s Leon, Roberts said, “We didn’t want someone that looked identical to the games but had no emotional connection.”

He added that throughout the movie, Leon will become the character that gamers will recognize, e.g., a certified badass.

“The fans are going to be happy with this movie because it’s pulling very much from the games,” said Jogia.

We’ll have to see how it all shakes out when Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City hits theaters Nov. 24.

Ain’t gonna happen. Poor excuse to not cast someone who looks like Leon.

Watch: Netflix Releases First Official Trailer Live-Action Cowboy Bebop

x

Netflix finally released an official trailer for the upcoming live-action adaptation of the classic anime Cowboy Bebop this week following last week’s lost session teaser and the title sequence that debuted during Netflix’s global fan event #TUDUM last month.

The new trailer, which is available to view above, is the first look at the storylines and episodes the new series will adapt from the classic and critically acclaimed anime. We also get a small look at Spike Spiegel’s storied past alongside a taste of the epic action scenes to come.

Series showrunner Andre Nemec recently said the show will be an expansion of the Cowboy Bebop canon rather than a beat-for-beat adaptation and early images from the series have fans buzzing.

The original Cowboy Bebop anime, which aired in 1998, is widely considered to be one of the best anime of all time and served as an entry point into anime for many Americans at the time. Like the anime before it, the new series will follow the adventures of a crew of bounty hunters including Spike Spiegel (John Cho), Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda), and Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir).

All episodes of the Cowboy Bebop adaptation are set to begin streaming on Netflix starting Nov. 19.

Watch: Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City’ Featurette Showcases Kaya Scodelario’s Claire Redfield

x

With the news of an upcoming thriller, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, came cautiously optimistic fans. While not everyone has loved the Resident Evil films’ last installments, they can rest assured that those attached to the new movie have been paying attention.

As reported by Deadline, Welcome to Raccoon City gives filmmaker and director Johannes Roberts the chance to “go back to the original first two games.” At the same time, he allows audiences to experience the intense and terrifying reactions he had while playing them for the same time. He also hopes to bring together a story about a dying town that “feels relatable.”

Roberts said this about who Redfield is and what her mission is in this movie; it’s an important one.

Claire Redfield is a runaway from Racoon City. She’s run away because she feels like something is very wrong there and now she’s coming back to tell her brother some very important information.

Scodelario shares her love for Redfield during her character featurette, not just in words but by the look of pride and awe on her face. Fans can tell she truly loves becoming Redfield and being part of the Resident Evil realm.

“Claire is a rounded character, she has her own journey, she isn’t just there to shoot gun. I love how rebellious she is. She’s an absolute badass.”

The official synopsis for the film is as follows:

“Returning to the terrifying roots of the massively popular franchise, fan and filmmaker Johannes Roberts brings the games of the billion-dollar franchise and the most successful video game adaptation in history to life for a whole new generation of fans. Once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company’s exodus left the city a wasteland…with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, the townspeople are forever…changed…and a small group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.”

Fans can see Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City in theaters on November 24th, 2021.
