F9 Moves Back To Memorial Day 2021 In The Wake Of NO TIME TO DIE Shifting To April

Image

As expected, in the wake of MGM and EON’s No Time to Die moving to April, Universal Pictures has vacated the date and shifted its upcoming Fast & Furious sequel F9 to May 28, 2021.

Earlier this year, Universal proved to be the most proactive of all the studios with its prompt virus response, which saw them move back their two biggest 2020 releases, F9 and Minions: The Rise of Gru, a whole year back in March.

At the time, many saw this as an overreaction to the then burgeoning coronavirus pandemic, but their foresight has proven increasingly valuable in the months since as Universal was able to secure key dates early and were also able to save a considerable amount of money on unnecessary marketing for release dates they were never going to meet.

This was very much unlike the strategy deployed by practically every other major studio, including Disney, Paramount, and Warner Bros, who have been forced to repeatedly delay films before finally deciding to punt on the rest of the calendar year and moving the majority of their biggest films to 2021.

However, while Disney and Paramount are more or less out, Warner Bros. does still have Dune and Wonder Woman 1984 on the calendar for December, so it looks like they’ll have some very big decisions to make in the coming weeks as theaters continue to struggle in their efforts to bring back audiences.

The film will see the whole family – Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster and Nathalie Emmanuel – reunite, as well as someone fans never thought they’d see again: Sung Kang, who returns to serve some justice in this adrenaline-fueled world, but, this time, the Fast gang will have their work cut out for them when they square off against a pair of extremely formidable foes in Charlize Theron’s Cipher and John Cena, who is playing Dom’s long-lost brother Jakob.

Summer 2020 is the time for F9, the ninth chapter in The Fast Saga that has endured for almost two decades and has earned more than $5 billion around the world. Directed by Justin Lin, who helmed the third, fourth, fifth and sixth chapters of the series when it transformed into a global blockbuster, the film stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Oscar®winner Charlize Theron and Oscar® winner Helen Mirren. F9 is produced by Neal H. Moritz, Vin Diesel, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Joe Roth, Justin Lin, Clayton Townsend and Samantha Vincent

F9 features:
Director: Justin Lin
Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto
Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz
Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce
Chris “Ludacris” Bridges as Tej Parker
Jordana Brewster as Mia Toretto
Nathalie Emmanuel as Ramsey
Sung Kang as Han Lue
John Cena as Jakob Toretto
Helen Mirren as Magdalene Shaw
Charlize Theron as Cipher
Lucas Black as Sean Boswell
Bow Wow as Twinkie
Jason Tobin as Earl Hu
Cardi B as Leysa
Anna Sawai as Elle
Michael Rooker as Buddy
Finn Cole in an undisclosed role
Vinnie Bennett in an undisclosed role
Ozuna in an undisclosed role
Francis Ngannou in an undisclosed role

F9 races into theaters May 28, 2021

RUMOR MILL: WANDAVISION Could Explain Jamie Foxx’s Return As Electro In SPIDER-MAN 3

Image

In “Rumor Mill,” we share the hard to buy rumours that don’t come from reliable sources like the trades, but are still more believable (just) than what you might find on Reddit.

This is definitely a rumor you should take with a pinch of salt, but according to MCU Cosmic (via The Direct), Jamie Foxx returning as Electro in Spider-Man 3 could be a direct result of WandaVision

The Oscar-winner first played the villain in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in a world completely unrelated to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans have since theorized that the Multiverse could be involved, though many are convinced Foxx will just play a new version of the same character.

The site claims, “there’s some multiverse madness involved to have that version of Electro cross over from one cinematic universe to another. Wanda really messed things up with her little ‘vision.'”

It’s unclear why this information was shared only after THR broke the news that Foxx is returning to the world of Spider-Man, but as noted, this isn’t the most reliable source and is likely an educated guess.

The prospect that the Scarlet Witch has somehow torn apart the Marvel Cinematic Universe with her powers is an interesting one, however, and Tom Holland’s Spidey battling foes from other worlds is an unexpected, albeit cool direction to take the franchise in. Now, we just have to hope the likes of Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin follow.

SPIDER-MAN 3: Jamie Foxx Confirms Electro Return & Reveals That He “Won’t Be Blue In This One”

Image

The interwebs were sent ablaze yesterday when it was reported that Jamie Foxx was set to return as Electro in Marvel Studios’ still-untitled Spider-Man sequel, and now, the Academy Award-winning actor has finally confirmed his involvment with an Instagram post that strongly hints at the Marvel multivers.

He says, “Tell Spidey let’s run it back!… super excited to part of the new marvel Spider-Man new installment… can t wait for y’all to check the new one. And I won’t be blue in this one!! But a thousand percent badass!!! #swipeleft” and if you do actually swipe right, you’ll see a number of photos and fan art that depict him squaring off with Tom Holland’s titular webslinger, including one very interesting piece he chose to share where THREE Spideys are facing an electrical field with his face superimposed.

While it’s likely just a fun piece that Foxx may have found amusing, he has now undoubtedly added a considerable amount of fuel to the ever-growing fire for fans believing that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures may secretly be planning a massive Spider-Verse event film that would also return both Tobey Maguire from the Raimi trilogy and Andrew Garfield from the Amazing duoology.

Foxx also stresses that he won’t be blue in the upcoming threequel, which seemingly suggests that this will indeed be a different version of the classic Spidey villain and not the same character he played in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, as for whether he’ll put on Electro’s classic green suit with the matching headgear, that remains to be seen.

UPDATE: Foxx has since deleted his initial post, but this was among the photos he shared…

THE FLASH: Billy Crudup (Back) In Talks To Join Ezra Miller In The Upcoming Standalone DC Movie

Image

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Primetime Emmy-winner Billy Crudup (Watchmen; Justice League; The Morning Show) is back in talks to join the cast of The Flash, which has Andy Muschietti (It; It Chapter Two; Mama) set to direct and Ezra Miller (Fantastic BeastsJustice League; Suicide Squad) attached to reprise his role as the titular speedster.

Crudup was actually one of the first cast members confirmed in 2016 when Rick Famuyiwa was in the director’s chair, but ultimately had to leave the project as it went through multiple different directors and production delays over the past four years. However, with Muschietti now set in stone and a fresh script from Christina Hodson (Birds of PreyBumblebee), the studio was able to reapproach him and it looks like things are moving in the right direction.

In addition to Miller, Crudup joins a cast that will also feature Michael Keaton (Batman; Batman Returns; Spider-Man: Homecoming) and Ben Affleck (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice; Suicide SquadJustice League) reprising their roles as different iterations of Bruce Wayne/Batman in a film that’s expected to fully explore the DC Multiverse.

THR also notes that while Kiersey Clemons (Justice League; DopeScoob!) was initially onboard to appear as Iris West, her status remains up in the air for now as like Crudup, WB will have to strike a new deal with her and it’s uncertain whether she’s interested in returning or if she’ll be available when filming is set to begin next year in London.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME Concept Art Features An Early Take On 2023 Captain America Vs. 2012 Captain America

Image

Avengers: Endgame made great use of time-travel, but an undeniable highlight came when the 2023 Captain America found himself face to face with his 2012 counterpart.

An exciting battle followed with Loki’s sceptre at stake, and the past version of Steve Rogers was only defeated when the present day Steve mentioned that Bucky was still alive. Now, some newly revealed concept art courtesy of Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding reveals a very early version of that sequence.

It’s unclear how much damage the 2023 Cap did to the timeline by pretending to be part of HYDRA and dropping that Bucky bombshell, but that’s likely to tie into future exploration of the Mutliverse (starting with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, presumably).

It’s an exciting time to be a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that’s for sure, and fun to look back at one of this shared world’s most memorable sequences in arguably its best movie.

SPIDER MAN 3: TASM 2 Star Jamie Foxx In Final Talks To Reprise The Role Of Electro!

Image

Check your calendars – this is not an April fools joke! THR reports that Jamie Foxx is currently in negotiations to return as Electro for Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man 3.

Foxx appeared as Electro in Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 starring Andrew Garfield, but it’s not clear if he’ll be playing the same character or a completely new version of the villain. If it’s the former, it sounds like the follow-up to Spider-Man: Far From Home may introduce some Multiverse elements.

TASM 2 is generally considered to be one of the more underwhelming Spidey movies, and underperformed at the box office when it was released back in 2014. Foxx’s take on Electro wasn’t particularly well received, so this is a surprising development… to say the least.

J.K. Simmons did return as J.J.J. Jameson for Far From Home, but that was assumed to be a one-off. Could Marvel and Sony be setting up a massive Into The Spider-Verse-style crossover here? That’s certainly one possibility, and leaning into the Multiverse would also allow for the likes of Venom, Morbius and other SPUMC characters to appear in the MCU proper.

Jon Watts’ still untitled Spider-Man 3 will see Tom Holland return as Peter Parker, with Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori also expected to reprise their roles from the previous movies.

What do you guys make of this shocking news? Let us know in the comments.

CYBERPUNK 2077: Keanu Reeves Stars In This Awesome New Commercial For The Upcoming Video Game

Image

A new commercial for Cyberpunk 2077 has been released, and it puts Keanu Reeves front and centre. Set to Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy,” there are some exciting new snippets of footage here, with the actor emphasising the fact that the only way to be a criminal in the year 2077 is “to get caught.”

Cyberpunk 2077 looks phenomenal, but this commercial is unlikely to distract from the negative publicity CD Projekt Red has been receiving recently.

As you may have heard, the publisher has instituted a mandatory six-day work week in order to get the game finished in time for its November release date, and after numerous delays, they’re clearly determined to now get it done in time for Christmas. Staff members are being paid, but this news comes after they previously vowed that there would be no crunch period on th game.

Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour and body modification. You play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality. You can customize your character’s cyberware, skillset and playstyle, and explore a vast city where the choices you make shape the story and world around you.

Cyberpunk 2077 is set to be released on November 19th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. There are tentative plans for an upgraded version of next gen consoles.

10 Future Crossovers We Could See From The MCU And Sony Pictures’ Universe Of Marvel Characters

Image

Earlier today, a very interesting rumour popped up online claiming that Sony Pictures is hoping for more crossovers between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and their “SPUMC” (Sony Pictures’ Universe of Marvel Characters) in future. The Spider-Man franchise is more successful now than ever before, so it’s easy enough to see why they’re keen to keep the partnership coming.

Needless to say, that’s definitely interesting, and the report mentioned that Sony is keen to see symbiotes brought into the MCU, and Captain America potentially facing off with the Sinister Six.

With that in mind, we’ve decided to take a look at all the different ways these two worlds could be combined over the coming years, both with Sony characters showing up in the MCU, and Marvel ones making their presence felt in the many Spider-Man spinoffs which are now heading our ways.

To check out these suggestions, all you guys need to do is click on the “Next” button below!

10. Blade Versus/Teams Up With Morbius

Morbius-Blade

Sony is about to introduce a Living Vampire, and Marvel Studios has plans in place to bring Blade, a Vampire Hunter, to the big screen. It’s not hard to see the crossover potential here!

While we can’t imagine Marvel Studios would necessarily want Morbius to be the lead in the Blade project they have planned, the two characters could definitely meet, and there’s really no reason why Mahershala Ali can’t pop up in a Morbius sequel for a cameo if and when one happens.

It may hinge on how well-received Morbius is (the trailer wasn’t great), but this could work well.

9. Spider-Woman, Agent Of S.W.O.R.D.

Spider-Woman

If the SPUMC is going to start borrowing ideas from the Marvel Cinematic Universe which link the two worlds in a way that doesn’t screw up continuity, then common sense says Jessica Drew could have some sort of affiliation with S.H.I.E.L.D., S.W.O.R.D., or even HYDRA!

This could be a throwaway mention, but it’s one you just know would generate a lot of chatter online.

Introducing Jessica in an upcoming Marvel Studios movie or TV show could also lay the groundwork for that, and fans are likely to want to follow her from that world into another. Spider-Man 3 is perhaps the best place to make that happen, but there are definitely other possibilities.

8. Doctor Strange Meets (A Different) Spider-Man

Tobey

With Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness set to follow the Sorcerer Supreme as he travels through the Marvel Multiverse, and Sam Raimi in the director’s chair, this should be a given.

A meeting between the “original” web-slinger and Doctor Strange would be truly spectacular, and Tobey Maguire reprising the role – even if it’s just his voice – would be a blast. How does this benefit Sony? Well, it potentially sets the stage for some sort of live-action Spider-Verse project, and there’s a good chance Digital/Blu-ray sales of Raimi’s trilogy would increase after this.

If this one doesn’t happen, a lot of fans will be seriously disappointed in Marvel and Sony alike.

7. More J. Jonah Jameson

JJJ

We know there are future plans for J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, but we’d love to see him step out from behind that desk and actually take on a leading role in an upcoming SPUMC project.

A meeting between Jonah and Eddie Brock has a tonne of potential, while there are undoubtedly some Marvel Studios features which could benefit from the outspoken journalist making his presence felt. Commentating on the events in both world would tie them together in a fun, loose way too.

Ultimately, the best possible use of Jonah will be clashing the webbed wonder himself at some point!

6. Kraven The Hunter In Spider-Man 3 AND His Own Solo Outing

Kraven

We know that J.C. Chandor is directing a Kraven the Hunter movie, but it makes sense for him to first target Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3 (especially as he’s likely to be on the run after being framed for Mysterio’s murder). If that is the case, then there’s a clever way to tie the two projects together.

If the next Spider-Man movie introduces Kraven, then his standalone feature can adapt “Kraven’s Last Hunt,” a story we know Sony has been high on since the “Sony Hack” fiasco a while back.

That could be completely separate from the MCU, continuing the rivalry these two have, but in a way that doesn’t really affect what we see the wall-crawler getting up to in that world moving forward.

5. Spider-Man Gets Some Help Against The Sinister Six

SS

In the rumour that surfaced earlier today, it was said that Sony hoped to include Captain America in some sort of Sinister Six project they’re working on. That could still happen – with Sam Wilson filling in for Steve Rogers – though it’s hard to say how exactly that would end up playing out.

Spider-Man getting some MCU backup to take on this villainous group does add up, though it’s kind of a shame the studio is planning to do their own thing with the team rather than letting Kevin Feige take charge. While it will likely include characters like Mysterio and The Vulture, it’s more likely that Venom, Carnage, and Morbius will take centre stage, and we have mixed feelings on that.

Regardless, there’s no getting around the fact this would definitely be beneficial to Sony Pictures!

4. References To Venom’s Home Planet In GOTG Vol. 3

Klyntar

Venom referenced the symbiote’s home planet, and the franchise could definitely explore the cosmic side of the character moving forward (it’s hard to say if there will be room for that in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, though). However, with Sony keen to have Marvel Studios make use of these aliens, there’s a chance they could be referenced somehow in an upcoming release.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 seems like a logical choice, even if it’s as simple as a throwaway scene like when we saw Stan Lee and The Watchers in Vol. 2. Alternatively, just a mention would work.

It wouldn’t make much sense for Star-Lord or Groot to bond with a symbiote, but this could lay the groundwork for something quite a bit bigger down the line…however, we’ll get to that a little later!

3. Exploring The Multiverse

Madame-Web

For reasons we still can’t entirely figure out, a Madame Web movie is in the works at Sony, and unless it focuses on Julia Carpenter, it’s going to be make for pretty weird viewing.

Regardless, with Madame Web’s ability to see what’s happening across the Multiverse, there are ways her story could be tied into the events of the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, and it’s feasible the character could be referenced or make her presence felt during that Marvel Studios release.

This may also prove to be a clever way of explaining how Spidey swings between two worlds!

2. More Spider-Man Solo Outings

Spidey

This is a pretty obvious suggestion, but if Sony really is looking to capitalise on the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, then they need to keep allowing Marvel Studios to make Spider-Man movies.

That means Peter Parker remains part of future events (like Avengers: Endgame), and if he does start popping up in the SPUMC, it will be a version of the character fans still want to follow. The backlash to the partnership between the two studios ending is also something Sony should remember!

This would be a smart business decision and undeniably beneficial to both companies moving forward.

1. “Venomized” Heroes

Venom-Loki

Venom was a critical flop, but it certainly made an impact at the box office. With that in mind, Kevin Feige could be convinced to move forward with some sort of “Venomized” crossover event.

Toys from that line have been selling like hot cakes, and with Marvel owning Spider-Man’s merchandising rights, they could cash in big time here. Bringing Venom into the MCU would be huge, as would some sort of symbiote invasion which sees the likes of Captain America, Thor, and Loki infected by the aliens.

Honestly, this could be really cool, but we wouldn’t bank on it happening…then again, stranger things have happened, so who knows what we might see over the next few years with these franchises.

MS. MARVEL Star Iman Vellani Wasn’t A Fan Of CAPTAIN MARVEL But Loves Brie Larson

Image

Screen Rant has unearthed Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani’s Letterboxd account, and it makes for fun reading! There are a tonne of funny reviews on there, but eagle-eyed fans have zeroed in on the fact that the young actress awarded 2019’s Captain Marvel a lowly 2* review.

Something the site doesn’t appear to have noticed is that she shared this before Captain Marvel was even released, so unless she caught an early screening, this could be a tongue in cheek verdict.

Many fans would agree that Captain Marvel was a tad disappointing, and that’s reflected in its 79% Rotten Tomatoes score (which is low for a Marvel Studios film). While Brie Larson was great, it was a somewhat straightforward origin story with quite a few unexpected, unorthadox creative decisions. Among them were the Skrulls being heroic, and the way Nick Fury lost his eye.

Vellani has absolutely nothing bad to say about Brie Larson, however, and that’s probably a good thing seeing as the two are likely to share the screen in the not too distant future. Carol Danvers is expected to appear in Ms. Marvel, while Kamala Khan is rumored to have a role in Captain Marvel 2.
