THE FLASH “Restarts Everything And Forgets Nothing” Teases Producer Barbara Muschietti

Hype is certainly building around DC superhero films and they’ve accomplished it by creating a lineup that show’s they’re willing to grow and move on from past mistakes. However, the inherent nature of cinematic universes means you can never truly dump those past mistakes in the trash can but if you’re DC Films, you can conveniently abandon those miscalculations on an alternate Earth.

That definitely appears to be the case as the upcoming Flash movie from director Andy Muschietti has confirmed that it will implement elements of the Flashpoint storyline from DC Comics, 2011 line-wide storyline which altered DC Universe by creating an alternate timeline when Barry Allen goes back in time to save his mother from death at the hands of Reverse-Flash.

In addition to starring Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen, the film has already snagged Michael Keaton to reprise his role as Tim Burton’s Batman, along with Ben Affleck’s Caped Crusader. Though embroiled in controversy with WB at the moment, Ray Fisher’s Cyborg is also in the midst of negotiations for an appearance.

During one of today’s earlier FanDome Fan Q&A sessions, Barbara Muschietti (Andy’s sister and producer on the film) dropped an interesting teaser that should have DC Comics readers speculating for weeks.

Well, I want you to go see it, so I’m not going to tell you a lot,” explained the Mama screenwriter and It-Chapter Two producer. “But what I will tell you is that it’s a ride. It’s going to be fun and exciting and there are a lot of DC characters in it. Flash is the superhero of this film because he is the bridge between all of these characters and timelines. And in a way, it restarts everything and doesn’t forget anything.

The DCEU certainly has its fair share of supporters and if the WB can find a way to keep moving forward with its current cast of characters while shedding some of its negative past, that’s a win-win for the studio and fans alike. It also means that The Flash might be the most important upcoming DC Film to date…

Junkie XL Previews His Electric New JUSTICE LEAGUE Theme For DC FanDome

Image

Day 1 of the second part of DC FanDome is underway and we have tons of exciting news to share.  On the film side, Junkie XL (Thomas Holkenborg) has shared a sneak preview of his upcoming action/main theme for Zack Snyder’s Justice League.  Check it out below.

I’m so excited to be back and finish Justice League with Zack- the Zack Snyder cut.  I can’t tell you how excited I am.  There’s a lot of work that needs to be done obviously, even though I already did a lot of work.  Righ now, I’m in the middle of finishing an action bit with the new Justice League theme and I want to preview a little bit of that.”

When Zack Snyder relinquished filmmaking duties on Justice League to deal with a grievous family tragedy, Joss Whedon was hired and along with that transition, Whedon decided to replace Junkie XL with Danny Elfman. Now, Holkenborg is able to return along with Snyder to finish their original vision.

What do you think of the snippet from Junkie XL? For comparison’s sake, we’ve also included Elfman’s Hero’s theme, which does have its fair share of fans. While we only heard a short snippet of XL’s theme, it’s clear that the two legendary composers definitely have distinctly different styles.

YOUNG JUSTICE Renewed For A Fourth Season; Will Be Titled YOUNG JUSTICE: PHANTOMS

Image

Good news for Young Justice fans.  Season 4 has been confirmed as a teaser card has been revealed, confirming that the new season will be titled Young Justice: Phantoms. Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman’s WB Animation series first premiered back in November 2010 and initially ran for two seasons before concluding in March 2013. A strong fan campaign saw the series resurrected for the DC Universe streaming platform January 2019. The two-part third season concluded on August 19, 2019.

Over a year later, Young Justice fans finally have confirmation of a fourth season. However, the fate of the DC Universe streaming platform appears to be muddying the waters. Amid reports that WB may retire the app and focus exclusively on HBO Max, Young Justice’s confirmation of a fourth season comes with zero additional details other than the fact that it will be titled Young Justice: Phantoms.

Where do you think the long-running show will head in a fourth season. Each subsequent season has introduced a new generation of heroes with Dick Grayson graduating to his Nightwing persona and passing the Robin mantle to Tim Drake (Jason Todd was confirmed to have died off screen). Damian Wayne appeared as an infant in season 3 so perhaps the timeskip in the fourth season will see him leading the new team as the latest Boy Wonder?

Keep it locked to CBM for additional DC FanDome coverage and our continued coverage on Young Justice.

WONDER WOMAN 1984 Director Patty Jenkins Comments On The Sequel’s Move To Christmas Day

Image

As expected, Warner Bros. postponed the release date of Wonder Woman 1984 earlier today, moving the DC Comics sequel from October 2nd to December 25th. That’s the latest in a long series of delays for the movie, and we now just have to hope it debuts as planned on Christmas Day!

Of course, while it’s common for theaters to be open in the U.S. over Christmas, that doesn’t tend to be the case overseas, so time will tell what release date it secures in other key territories.

Talking to Variety earlier today, director Patty Jenkins said, “First and foremost let me say how much Gal and I love all our devoted Wonder Woman fans around the world, and your excitement for ‘WW84’ couldn’t make us happier or more eager for you to see the movie.”

“Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I’m hopeful you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer. With the new date on Christmas Day, we can’t wait to spend the holidays with you!”

Toby Emmerich, Warmer Bros. Motion Picture Group chairman, meanwhile, added: “Patty is an exceptional filmmaker and with ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ she has delivered an incredibly dynamic film that moviegoers of all ages around the world will absolutely love. We’re very proud of the film and look forward to bringing it to audiences for the holidays.”

The trade notes that the studio waited to see how ticket sales for Tenet went before making a decision about Wonder Woman 1984, and they clearly weren’t happy based on this delay. With the marketing campaign having stalled – again – since DC FanDome, this delay isn’t surprising, but it is disappointing. It seems the hope is that the world will be a more normal place by then.
