Entertainment Weekly has confirmed a number of directors involved with season 2 of The Mandalorian, noting that executive producer Jon Favreau will make his Star Wars debut by stepping behind the camera for the premiere. That arrives on Disney+ on October 30, and is sure to be something special with the Iron Man director at the helm. 

The site also mentions Rick Famuyiwa, who directed two of season 1’s best episodes, Greef Karga actor Carl Weathers, and Star Wars newcomer Robert Rodriguez. There’s no mention of Ant-Man director Peyton Reed who has been rumored to be directing at least one episode of season 2. 

As expected, The Mandalorian will return with 8 episodes, though Favreau explains, “There’s probably even variation [in episode lengths] this year.” 

George Lucas returned to set for season 2 to watch his one-time protégé Dave Filoni in action, meaning he’s also confirmed as a season 2 director. Known for telling actors to go “faster” and “more intense,” it doesn’t sound like Lucas gave Filoni an easy time. 

“He would be giving Dave a hard time about how many setups he was getting and how fast he was shooting and urging him to go faster,” Favreau laughs. “He was like a boxer’s corner man coaching him, but always with a twinkle in his eye.”

The Mandalorian‘s return is among the most anticipated of 2020, and a big deal for Disney+ after the delay of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier last month (and possibly WandaVision as well).

John Nania may not be a name you’ll instantly recognise, but as Sebastian Stan’s stuntman, he’s brought a lot to the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the years. Recently, he appeared on The Screen Forum podcast, and was asked how much longer he plans to continue performing stunts. 

Having worked on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Nania is bound to have an idea of what comes next for Bucky/The Winter Soldier, and hinted as much while answering the aforementioned question.

“I’ve still got a lot of performing left in me, and there’s still a lot of things I want to do,” he began. “I don’t think the Winter Soldier is quite over with in the Marvel universe, there’s still a lot more to ride out on that one, and I look forward to being part of it.”

Nania would later praise the cast of the recently delayed Disney+ TV series, and promised that fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe can look forward to plenty of epic action.

“Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Daniel Brühl, I’ve seen these guys actually acting and I mean what professionals. When you work with them you see why these characters are so awesome and we get to see them in a whole different light with this show.”

“I think as far as the action goes,” Nania continued, “I’ve been a part of some ambitious things in the past, but this, truly, might be the most ambitious project I’ve ever worked on.”

This all sounds awesome, and we’re now left hoping that Marvel Studios can get work on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier finished so we can finally see these action scenes for ourselves!

It’s no secret that Tom Cruise performs his own stunts (it must be a nightmare to ensure the man), but this might be his most insane – and dangerous – to date. While he recently braved a London cinema to watch Tenet, the feat he pulled off for the upcoming Mission: Impossible 7 is even more daring.

After director Christopher McQuarrie took to Twitter yesterday to tease an epic looking stunt, footage has now found its way online which is well and truly a sight to behold. 

As you can see in the player below, Cruise drives a motorcycle off a massive ramp before parachuting to the ground. While the actor constantly seems to try to outdo himself from movie to movie, this is undeniably more dangerous than anything we’ve seen from him before now, and there are probably a million different ways this could have ended up going horribly wrong. 

Cruise is followed by a drone and helicopter, and this is bound to look downright insane in Mission: Impossible 7 (don’t be surprised if we catch a glimpse of it whenever the first trailer is released).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 featured a number of villains, but Elizabeth Debicki’s Ayesha was undeniably memorable. Pursuing the team throughout pretty much the entire sequel, she appeared in one of the many post-credits scenes hell-bent on revenge. It was for that reason she decided to create “Adam,” a character better known to comic book fans as Adam Warlock. 

The hope is that he will be part of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, though if we’re getting Adam, Ayesha surely can’t be too far behind! Talking to ComicBook.com to promote Tenet, Debicki made it clear she would love to reprise the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 

“I want to. I love [Ayesha]. I actually really, really loved playing her, and I loved making that movie and working with everybody and James, and it was a really fun job for me. So I hope so. I, sometimes I just think about her golden throne and her golden dress, just waiting somewhere in the wings. I would love, even if I just sort of scooch on for a second. I mean, I would love to come back.”

While her role would likely be a supporting one, it would definitely be great seeing more of Ayesha as there’s clearly a story to be told there, particularly after she played a key role in creating “Adam.”

We’ll have to wait and see, but with the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 done (barring any revisions to help it fit further into the MCU’s timeline), we may get to find out sooner rather than later!

Yesterday was Idris Elba’s birthday, and The Suicide Squad writer and director James Gunn marked the occasion by sharing a heartfelt message for the British actor. In that Tweet, the filmmaker also shared a surprising revelation about Bloodsport – Elba’s character – in the DC Comics adaptation.

If you recall, it was originally reported that Elba was in talks to replace Will Smith as Deadshot. Later, we would learn that the actor was set to play a different character, though it’s never been explained whether Warner Bros. decided against recasting Smith or if it was never actually the plan for him to join the DC Extended Universe as Floyd Lawton. 

Regardless, Gunn states that, “I rarely write roles for actors I’ve never met, but I did exactly that for [Idris Elba] in [The Suicide Squad] [and] couldn’t be happier I did – you went beyond my expectations as an actor AND as a human being. I can’t wait for folks to see you as [Bloodsport].”

It’s interesting that the filmmaker specifically wrote Bloodsport for Elba, and it would be interesting to find out whether he originally planned to have him as Deadshot or if this was always what he intended.

Either way, it’s going to be a lot of fun seeing what the actor brings to the DCEU…
