SHAZAM! 2 Will Reportedly Start Shooting Next Year In Time For Its November 2022 Release

Image

Shazam! was a modest-sized hit last year, so it surprised no one when a sequel was confirmed. Fans loved the DC Comics adaptation (even if it did feel drastically different to past entries in the DC Extended Universe), and with Black Adam also on the way, the hope is that these movies will tie into one another and set the stage for a crossover.

David F. Sandberg is returning to direct, as is writer Henry Gayden, and it’s previously been reported that we could see Shazam battle Mister Mind after a mid-credits scene set up his appearance.

Now, The Illuminerdi has shared an update on where things stand with the Shazam! 2 in terms of shooting, and it’s said that the current plan is for cameras to roll next spring. That will put the sequel on track to arrive in theaters as planned on November 4th, 2022.

Black Adam is currently set to be released next December, but it’s believed that will change as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will first have to finish working on Red Notice for Netflix. Plans for both movies might become clearer at DC FanDome this month as they’re both expected to have a presence.

Are you excited to return to the world of Shazam!?

THE NEW MUTANTS: The Troubled Children Of The Atom Assemble On New IMAX Poster

Image

Despite continued speculation that The New Mutants would ultimately debut on Disney+, the movie does appear to be sticking with its August 28 theatrical release, and IMAX has now shared a pretty cool new poster for the X-Men spinoff via social media.

The one-sheet provides a fresh look at troubled young heroes Danielle Moonstar (Blu Hunt); Rahne Sinclair (Maisie Williams); Sam Guthrie (Charlie Heaton); Roberto da Costa (Henry Zaga); and Illyana Rasputin (Anya Taylor-Joy) on the grounds of the facility that will likely turn out to be more of a prison than any of them realize.

Check out the poster below along with a recently released synopsis.

“In this terrifying, action-fueled film based on the MARVEL comic series, five young people who demonstrate special powers are brought to a secret institution to undergo treatments they are told will cure them of the dangers of their powers. Included are Danielle Moonstar aka Mirage (Blu Hunt), who creates illusions from other people’s fears; Rahne Sinclair (Maisie Williams), who transforms into the werewolf Wolfsbane; Sam Guthrie (Charlie Heaton), who, as Cannonball, can fly at jet speeds protected by a force field; Roberto da Costa aka Sunspot (Henry Zaga), who absorbs and channels solar power; and Illyana Rasputin aka Magik (Anya Taylor-Joy). The younger sister of Colossus, Magik becomes encased in armor at will and wields a soulsword that amplifies her multiple superhuman and psychic abilities.

Invited by Dr. Cecilia Reyes (Alice Braga) to share their stories about when their powers first manifested, the five “patients” come to understand that they are in a class of people called mutants, who have historically been marginalized and feared. As they relive their origin stories, their memories seem to turn into terrifying realities. Soon, they question what is real and what isn’t, and it becomes clear that the institution isn’t what it seems. Now the question is — why are they being held captive? And who is trying to destroy them? The tension and horror mount in this white-knuckle thrill ride directed by Josh Boone and co-written by Boone and Knate Lee.”

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – Nick Fury’s CAPTAIN MARVEL Pager Actually Includes A Reference To S.W.O.R.D.

Image

Avengers: Infinity War ended with Nick Fury attempting to contact Carol Danvers with a very unique little pager, while Captain Marvel explained its backstory. We never got an overly detailed look at the pager (even when Earth’s Mightiest Heroes were examining it), but the prototype prop used to create it has now found its way on to eBay.

What’s interesting is the fact that we get to see the back of the pager, and as well as the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo, you can see it’s also labelled with “Sentient World Observation and Response Department.” Of course, that’s S.W.O.R.D., the space-based counterpart to S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel Studios clearly decided against referencing this in Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel, or even Avengers: Endgame, but this essentially confirms that S.W.O.R.D. has been around in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for longer than we thought. However, with the agency set to be introduced in WandaVision, it’s possible they were established following Thanos’ attack on Earth.

Seeing as Nick Fury was hanging out in space with the Skrulls at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, it’s possible that was tied into S.W.O.R.D. as well, but we’ll obviously have to wait and see.

New SUPERGIRL Season 6 And THE FLASH Season 7 Promo Posters Released By The CW

Image

The CW has released another couple of colorful promo posters for the upcoming seasons of two of its Arrowverse shows, The Flash and Supergirl.

The Scarlet Speedster is racing towards his seventh season, which will find Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) attempting to deal with the fallout from the Crises on Infinite Earths crossover event. We’d usually be seeing the Fastest Man Alive return for his latest adventure in October, but production delays relating to COVID-19 pandemic means Season 7 won’t be with us until January, 2021.

The Girl of Steel, meanwhile, won’t be back for her sixth season until even later next year (no official premiere date has been announced). That show’s delay also stemmed from the shutdowns, but the hold up was extended due to star Melisa Benoist falling pregnant with her first child.

Check out the posters below along with the previous released key art and let us know which of the Arrowverse shows you’re most looking forward to seeing back on your screens in the comments.
