Universal has a new monster movie in development called Don’t Go in The Water, and Stephen Williams, who most recently helmed a couple of episodes of HBO’s Watchmen, has signed on to direct. Plot details are under wraps, but the project is described as a “suspenseful monster movie.”

Variety’s report mentions that it’s an original premise from writer Peter Gaffney, but it sounds to us like it might be a remake, or at least be inspired by, Creature from The Black Lagoon. That’s pure speculation, but we do know that Universal is planning to revisit more of its classic monsters after the success of The Invisible Man – even though they will no longer be connected as part of a shared “dark universe.”

We recently learned that Aquaman director James Wan is producing another project which sounds an awful lot like a modern-day retelling of Frankenstein, while Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body) will tackle a new take on Dracula.

Williams has previously directed episodes of Lost, Ray Donovan and The Walking Dead. His only other feature credit is Soul Survivor.

Don’t Go in The Water will be produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Levine for 21 Laps Entertainment, alongside Adam Kolbrenner for Lit Entertainment Group. We have no idea when this will actually head into production given the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, but we’ll keep you guys updated.

One of Avengers: Infinity War‘s biggest surprises came when we were introduced to the Stonekeeper on Vormir. Revealed to be Captain America: The First Avenger villain the Red Skull, the movie explained what had become of the HYDRA founder after he vanished during his World War II battle with Steve Rogers.

Tasked with protecting the Soul Stone, Johann Schmidt had become an almost-supernatural being with knowledge of the Infinity Stones seemingly granted to him by the Tesseract. 

Now, Marvel Studios concept artist Rodney Fuentebella has shared an alternate take on Red Skull in Avengers: Infinity War which is definitely more grounded. “This is an initial concept of Red Skull or Soul Keeper as someone who has maybe met with various people in space and taken on their varied clothings,” he explains in the Instagram post below.

It’s definitely an interesting look and points to the villain having an entire history we would have missed out on. It’s unclear whether we’ll see more of Red Skull in the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward, but fans remain anxious that we’ll see what happened when Steve Rogers returned the Soul Stone…

Universal recently announced that Trolls World Tour would be sent straight to streaming, but Minions: Rise of Gru will not be following suit.

Originally set to hit theaters on July 3, 2020, the animated adventure will now arrive on July 2, 2021. That date had been reserved for Illumination’s Sing 2, so that’s been pushed to December 22, 2021. Of course, shuffling releases like this doesn’t always leave any prime dates free, and the studio has now taken big-screen Broadway adaptation Wicked off the schedule entirely.

When upcoming releases first began to be postponed because of coronavirus concerns, it was assumed that the summer season would be salvaged, but that’s obviously not going to happen. Fans were hopeful that Marvel’s Black Widow would still hit theaters this year, but it’s looking increasingly likely that the Lethal Avenger’s first (and last) solo outing will be pushed back to 2021 along with Mulan. Analysts believe that Warner Bros. was too optimistic with Wonder Woman 1984′s new August release date, so that may also be delayed until next year.

We’ll hopefully get some kind of update from Disney and WB soon, but if you’ve been planning an MCU or DCEU re-watch, it’s probably a good time!

The epic “Dark Phoenix Saga” kicked off in the pages of X-Men #129 and ran for nine issues, and has since been adapted to film twice (in X-Men: The Last Stand and Dark Phoenix). Both of those were so poorly received that it seems unlikely Marvel Studios will go anywhere near this one again, and that’s a shame as Chris Claremont and John Byrne delivered a true classic. 

Now, Marvel Executive Editor and SVP of Publishing Tom Brevoort has shared some of Dave Cockrum’s unused designs for how Jean Grey could have looked after transforming into the Dark Phoenix.

As you can see below, the original plan was for the costume to be white, but given the quality of paper comic books were printed on at the time, there were concerns that just wouldn’t work. Jean has donned a white costume as the Phoenix since then, of course, but some of the alternate versions below are definitely a lot different to what we ended up seeing in the 1980s.

Uncharted has been through multiple directors and actors over the years, while its release date has shifted almost as much as Gambit‘s did. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in production being pushed back yet again, and its March 5th, 2021 release date has now been pushed back to October 8th, 2021. 

Last night, Spider-Man: Far From Home star Tom Holland made a surprise appearance during Justin Bieber’s Instagram Live Q&A, and revealed a surprising new detail about work on Uncharted. 

“We showed up for our first day of shooting and they shut us down,” the British actor admitted. 

It really is beginning to feel like this movie is cursed, and while it now has a much later release date, it could be difficult for everyone’s schedules to match up (especially as Holland is bound to be busy with Spider-Man 3 once its July start date is inevitably pushed back because of Coronavirus concerns). 

The Uncharted video game series is critically acclaimed both for its gameplay and storytelling. Many fans are unhappy about Holland playing a younger version of Nathan Drake as the hope was that a movie would focus on the version of Nate fans know and love from the games. However, this “origin story” approach gives Sony some much-needed creative freedom.

Outside of the return of Bugs Bunny and his Looney Tunes crew, the plot of Space Jam 2 has been kept under heavy lock-and-key inside the Warner Bros. water tower, but now, thanks to a recent podcast appearance from Don Cheadle’s Black Monday co-star Paul Scheer, we may have a few new details about one of the movie’s central characters. 

To promote the new season of his hit Showtime series, Scheer recently appeared on the Clip City Podcast, a Los Angeles Clippers-centric podcast sponsored by The Athletic, and seemingly let it slip that Cheadle (Avengers: Endgame) will be playing the primary antagonist in the upcoming animated sequel.

He reveals, “Actually Don Cheadle, who I do ‘Black Monday’ with, he’s the bad guy in ‘Space Jam,’ and he said LeBron’s really great. He was great in ‘Train Wreck’ too.“

While he is undoubtedly playing a villain, it’s uncertain at this juncture whether the Academy Award-nominated Cheadle will be playing a human villain or providing the voice for an animated baddie. The first film did see Danny DeVito provide the voice for the alien antagonist Swackhammer, so it’s entirely possible Cheadle could be playing a similar role. 

The upcoming sequel will star Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James in the lead role, doing his best to fill the shoes of the legendary Michael Jordan, a.k.a. the greatest basketball player of all-time, who starred in the original 1996 classic. 

Cheadle will headline the supporting cast along with Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery), who is playing James’ wife, and Ceyair J. Wright (American Skin), who is playing his eldest son. Basketball co-stars remain a mystery for now, but the cast is rumored to feature the likes of Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Chris Paul, Kyle Kuzma, Diana Taurasi, Nneka Ogwumike and Chiney Ogwumike, amongst several other NBA and WNBA stars.

There are also rumors that additional Warner Bros. characters, including Pennywise, Lord Voldemort, The Wicked Witch of the West, Agent Smith, The Mask, and The Joker, will also appear, but those murmurs remain unconfirmed for now.
