In news which most definitely should not come as a surprise, Universal Studios has pushed back its re-opening date in both Hollywood and Orlando from April 1st to April 19th. 

The announcement about the closure of the theme parks came on March 12th, and the coronavirus pandemic has only worsened since then. Universal closed down the same day as Disneyland and Walt Disney World, so a similar announcement from Disney is quite likely imminent. 

“We are extending the closure of Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood through April 19,” reads the statement released today, “as we continue to respond to current conditions and make the health and safety of team members and guests our top priority.”

Yesterday afternoon, we learned that The Walking Dead‘s finale won’t air until later in 2020 thanks to the coronavirus, and that was the latest in a series of blows to zombie fans. After all, it was only this Sunday when we were forced to say goodbye to Danai Gurira’s katana wielding Michonne!

The actress is moving on to bigger things, including Marvel Studios and Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther 2.

Sunday’s episode left the door open to Michonne making a return in AMC’s Rick Grimes film, as she was left alive and on the hunt for her former flame. The movie, which is the first in a planned trilogy, has no release date, but was confirmed for a theatrical release shortly after being announced.

The Walking Dead has lost nearly all of its original cast members, but that has led to fan-favorite Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) landing a huge pay rise as the new lead of the long-running drama.

Gurira is a great actress, so we can’t wait to see what she does beyond the Black Panther franchise.

The Batmobile #3

A closer look at what will likely turn out to be a homemade engine.

This is further evidence that Pattison’s take on the character will favor function over fashion, as it appears as if Bruce Wayne has basically just added a few bells and whistles to a standard muscle car. This is the Batmobile, though, so don’t be surprised if it’s hiding a few surprises for the bad guys somewhere.

Hollywood has been hit hard by COVID-19, and not even superheroes are resistant to the pandemic.

Black Widow has already been delayed indefinitely by Disney and Marvel Studios, and there’s some doubt whether Eternals is going to be able to meet is planned November release. The VFX heavy movie has finished shooting, but it’s still in post-production and could be in need of reshoots over the summer. 

There is, however, some good news today as one of the VFX houses working on the film has confirmed that they’re currently working remotely on that and other projects they’re attached to.

We don’t know exactly how much of Eternals Scanline VFX Studios is committed to bringing to life on the big screen, but if they’re able to work remotely, others are bound to be as well. So, this is definitely a positive update, but not one which guarantees that the highly anticipated origin story for these ancient superheroes will actually make it to theaters this winter as planned. 

Instead, it seems far more likely that Black Widow will take Eternals‘ release date…assuming theaters have been able to open their doors by then (which is definitely the hope right now).

The affects of the coronavirus are still being felt in the worlds of both film and television as Batwoman and Supergirl are the latest TV shows to be pulled by The CW. Yesterday, we told you about Supernatural no longer being on the air because there’s no one to complete the visual effects, and it appears the same can now be said for these superheroes.

Spoiler TV has confirmed the news that both of this weekend’s episodes are being replaced with repeats, and though they fail to elaborate on why, it isn’t too difficult to figure out!

Up until now, Sunday’s episode of Batwoman was going to be titled “A Narrow Escape.” Supergirl, meanwhile, was to be “Deux Lex Machina.” Now, the former is a repeat of “A Mad Tea-Party,” and the latter will be “Back From The Future – Part Two.” The network hasn’t release an official statement, but the episodes being unfinished is the most likely cause of these unexpected delays. 

The Flash is likely next, but work on Legends of Tomorrow‘s current season is thought to be completed.

This is probably going to be the new norm for all our favourite TV shows in future, and The CW has yet to reveal whether the final episodes of these will air over the summer or in the fall.

Hollywood has come to a halt, however, so we don’t even know what the plan is for their next seasons!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice wasn’t for everyone, but we can probably all agree that Ben Affleck looked good in the Dark Knight’s Mech Suit! The actor’s version of Batman donned that in the hope that it would make him powerful enough to take down dangerous alien Superman. 

Today, director Zack Snyder has used his popular Vero account to share a new behind the scenes clip of Affleck performing some pushups while wearing this hefty Batsuit. 

What follows is some fun banter between Snyder and Affleck as the filmmaker pokes fun at those saying the suit would have limited mobility. Interestingly, these two appear to have had a friendly rivalry on set because the actor notes that he’s effortlessly passed Snyder’s set of 20 pushups! 

Affleck recently looked back with fondness about the time he spent working on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and indicated that it was Justice League which killed his interest in playing the hero.

The hunky actor looks every bit the superhero here, however, and it’s a pity his time as Batman was cut short. Perhaps a call from Kevin Feige will convinced him to join another comic book franchise?

Ever since Ahsoka Tano first debuted in The Clone Wars, she’s been a fan-favourite character brought to life by talented voice actress Ashley Eckstein. For years, fans have held out hope that she might be the opportunity to play the Jedi Knight in a live-action setting, but it will be Rosario Dawson who plays the hero in The Mandalorian season two. 

That makes sense considering the fact she’s spent years campaigning for the role and is a big name actress, but how does Eckstein feel about being overlooked by Disney and Lucasfilm?

Well, she’s now shared a lengthy statement on Instagram in which she explains that she has no involvement with the Disney+ series and that while “it has been my dream for 14 years to continue to play Ahsoka Tano in all forms,” she will “continue to be grateful for opportunities to help create stories for Ahsoka Tano and I am always happy to see her legacy continued.”

“I am only one member of a tremendously talented team of people that it takes to bring Ahsoka Tano to life,” the actress continued. “The final decisions for Ahsoka are not mine to make and I cannot comment on something that I truly know nothing about.”

There certainly don’t appear to be any sour grapes on Eckstein’s part, but it’s not hard to see that she’s disappointed by the decision to cast someone else as the character she’s breathed life into. After all, she was even asked to voice Ashoka in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker last year!

Production on just about everything has been shut down as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and there’s been a lot of speculation about what that will mean for an entity like Marvel Studios. 

After all, the nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe means their stories need to be released in a very particular order, and Black Widow‘s delay and the likes of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings halting production is obviously troubling. 

Well, according to a new report, projects like Young Avengers are still being worked on, while there are said to be “constant” video conferences taking place regarding a number of matters, including plans for Black Widow‘s eventual release. It also sounds like Disney is keen to keep Marvel Studios up and running as they’re relying on content from them, Lucasfilm, and Pixar. 

These details are all vague, but it’s good to know that Marvel Studios hasn’t completely shut down.

Unfortunately, with work unfinished on many of the projects mentioned above, it’s going to be very difficult for Marvel Studios to release anything for the foreseeable future. Sure, fans are hoping that Black Widow will debut on Disney+, but the chances of that happening are slim. 

We’ll keep you updated, but for now, you should probably keep your fingers crossed for positive news!
