New DUNE Stills Feature The Vast Harkonnen Army And A BTS Look At Director Denis Villeneuve

Image

Following the Dune covers and a batch of official stills, four more images from the latest issue of Empire Magazine have been shared online.

While most of the earlier promo stills have focused on individual characters, this is the first time we get a sense of the massive scale of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation courtesy of a wide shot of the vast Harkonnen army. The Baron’s men are formidable fighters, but their legions become even more lethal when bolstered by the Padishah Emperor’s Sardaukar forces.

We also have a behind-the-scenes shot of Villeneuve directing star Timothée Chalamet (Paul Atreides), as well as new looks at Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Liet-Kynes and Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck in the Arrakeen residency hall on Arrakis.

During a new interview with the mag, Villeneuve was asked about David Lynch’s previous adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic novel, which the iconic filmmaker himself has since all-but disowned.

“I’m a big David Lynch fan, he’s the master,” Villeneuve said. “When I saw [Lynch]’s Dune I remember being excited, but his take… there are parts that I love and other elements that I am less comfortable with. So it’s like, I remember being half-satisfied. That’s why I was thinking to myself, ‘There’s still a movie that needs to be made about that book, just a different sensibility.’”

We’ll get to see what that new take on Dune looks like for ourselves when the movie hits theaters this December. The first trailer is set to debut online on September 9.

THE WALKING DEAD Season 10 Finale “A Certain Doom” Promo Teases The End Of The Whisperer War

Image

Although the episode we saw back in April was forced to serve as the Season 10 finale of The Walking Dead because of the industry wide COVID-19 production shut-downs, and actual conclusion to the season is set to air on October 4, and FOX TV (The UK network for the show) has now released a new promo.

It’s brief, but it does contain some new shots that didn’t feature in the Comic-Con@Home teaser, as we see Daryl, Carol, Father Gabriel, Judith and the rest of the survivors prepare for the now vengeance-driven Beta and his new herd of walkers.

Although she doesn’t appear in the promo, the returning Maggie (Lauren Cohan) is expected to factor into the final battle.

The Walking Dead season 10, episode 16 “A Certain Doom”: Beta engages the final battle of the Whisperer War. Directed by Greg Nicotero; with a story by  Jim Barnes, Eli Jorné, and Corey Reed, and teleplay by Reed.

Do you guys plan on tuning in for “A Certain Doom” this October? Let us know in the comments.

DOCTOR SLEEP Director Mike Flanagan Wants To Adapt Stephen King’s Epic THE DARK TOWER Series

Image

Filmmaker Mike Flanagan recently spoke to SYFY Wire about his Netflix series, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and revealed that there is yet another Stephen King adaptation he hopes to bring to the big or small screen: The Dark Tower. Previously, he’s adapted The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game for the author, and King’s epic sci-fi fantasy novel series is in desperate need of a reboot.

The disastrous 2017 movie starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey flopped with $113 million at the worldwide box office, and while attempting to make a sequel to the novels was a clever idea, it was one director Nikolaj Arcel failed to pull off despite the star-studded cast.

“The Dark Tower is forever going to be the story I wish I could tell,” Flanagan said. “That would be the Holy Grail. I mean, talk about an adaptation challenge. So many very talented people have poured so much time and heart and soul and blood, sweat, and tears trying to crack that.”

There was once a TV series in the works which was going to feature Elba in a couple of bookend scenes, delving into the history of The Gunslinger, Roland Deschain. That ended up being scrapped, so the opportunity is there to reboot the property… assuming there’s a studio that’s actually interested!

Do you think Flanagan would be a good fit for The Dark Tower?
