THE MANDALORIAN Is The Most In-Demand Original Series Across New Streaming Services

Image

The Hollywood Reporter has shared a report from Parrot Analytics which reveals that The Mandalorian was the most in-demand original show from any of the new streaming services. Four have launched over the past nine months, but the first live-action Star Wars TV series came out well ahead.

Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max, and Peacock were all compared, but demand for The Mandalorian was 55x higher than any other TV series during that same week.

It’s clear the show really resonated with viewers, and excitement for season two is at an all-time high. Interestingly, Marvel’s What If? also receives a mention despite it not being available on Disney+ until next year. All we can assume is that after seeing a handful of clips from it in Marvel Studios: Expanding The Universe, fans were desperate for more from that animated TV show.

All of these streaming services are nipping at the heels of Netflix, and their monopoly on that market is now more. As time goes on, people will obviously have to decide which ones they want to subscribe to on a long-term basis because accessing all of them simply won’t be affordable.

Was The Mandalorian a priority for you when it arrived on Disney+ last November?

MULAN: Enraged French Cinema Owner Destroys Standee In Response To Disney+ News

Image

Earlier this week, Disney confirmed that in countries with Disney+ (which is most of them at this point), Mulan will be released on the streaming service for a premium fee. That’s going to be $29.99 in the United States, and is likely to be the same across the globe. While that price point was controversial, the decision to have it skip theaters proved to be even more divisive.

Theater owners outside the U.S. – where around 1000 people per day are still dying from COVID-19 – have been left in equal parts baffled and angered by Disney’s decision. After all, Mulan would have been a big draw for families looking to return to their local multiplex after months of closures.

In response to the news, one French cinema owner decided to take what looks like either a baseball or cricket bat to a Mulan standee. He completely destroys it and then stands triumphantly over its remains, clearly hoping to send a message to Disney.

Ultimately, should this live-action adaptation prove to be a hit on Disney+, this could become the norm for the studio. As a result, theaters are going to have to accept that people might want to watch new blockbusters at home instead of venturing into somewhere they risk catching a potentially deadly virus.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME BTS Photos Released Featuring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, And Mark Ruffalo

Image

Had things played out slightly differently, Avengers: Endgame would have been released this year and delayed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The thought of the most highly anticipated superhero movie of all-time facing the same sort of postponement Black Widow has is hard to fathom, and it obviously would’ve been interesting seeing how Disney might have handled that.

Thankfully, it didn’t happen, and the hope now is that Black Widow could join Mulan in being released on Disney+ for $29.99 this November (it all depends what happens with the ongoing pandemic).

With Avengers: Endgame among the Marvel Studios movies already on the streaming service, they’ve now reminded fans of that with a few behind the scenes photos. As you can see, they show Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), and Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) all posing in front of that iconic Avengers logo, and we’ll hopefully get more with the rest of the movie’s cast.

We recently spoke to the Russo Brothers about the epic finale to the “Infinity Saga,” and you can find that interview by clicking here. Then, check out these photos in the Instagram post below:

CAPTAIN MARVEL 2 Finds Its Director In CANDYMAN Filmmaker Nia DaCosta

Captain Marvel 2 has found a director!

According to Deadline, Marvel has enlisted Candyman reboot helmer Nia DaCosta to step behind the camera of the highly anticipated sequel, which will see Brie Larson make her return as Carol Danvers. This makes DaCosta the first Black woman to direct a Marvel Studios film.

We were told that the first movie’s directors Anne Bowden and Ryan Fleck would not be returning back when the sequel was announced as being officially in development, and Marvel has been searching for a female filmmaker to take over since.

Kevin Feige and co. are said to have been meeting with candidates for the past couple of months (no one else is named in this report), but DaCosta “seemed to have the edge for some time.”

WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell penned the script.

Plot details for Captain Marvel 2 remain under wraps for now, but there are rumors that Ms. Marvel will make an appearance. There’s also a lot of speculation that the sequel will take influence from the Secret Invasion comic arc, which would make a certain amount of sense following the events of the first film.

What do you guys make of this news? You can check out DaCosta’s stunning shadow puppet trailer for Candyman below.
