MAN OF STEEL Director Zack Snyder Reveals His First Sketch Of The DC Extended Universe’s Superman

Image

Zack Snyder usually uses his Vero account to tease the Snyder Cut of Justice League, but the filmmaker recently shared an early, rough sketch of Superman in Man of Steel. He accompanied that with the caption, “My first ever drawings from [Man of Steel] of Superman in costume.”

Where in the movie does this scene take place? Well, it appears to be the iconic moment Henry Cavill’s Kal-El took flight for the first time, a moment still hailed as one of the best in the DCEU.

Man of Steel remains a divisive movie, but it still received a more positive response than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The main talking points for fans was the fact that the hero’s battle with General Zod destroyed huge chunks of Metropolis, while Superman ultimately stopping the villain by breaking his neck was something many decided wasn’t very, well, “Superman-like.”

Snyder put a lot of love into Man of Steel, and he had plans for the iconic DC Comics superhero which were supposed to continue across two Justice League movies (the first of which was reshot by Joss Whedon, while the second obviously ended up being shelved after that was released).

Harley Quinn Is THE SUICIDE SQUAD Director James Gunn’s Favorite Character; Teases “Insane Dialogue”

Image

The Suicide Squad boasts an eclectic cast of characters, but will Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn lead the charge? Her movie didn’t make the biggest of splashes at the box office back in February, but writer and director James Gunn is clearly a long-time fan of the DC Comics character.

Asked in an Instagram Q&A who he would choose between Harley and The Joker, the filmmaker was quick to point out that the former is a favorite of his, and that he loved writing the character.

“Oh, I love the Joker, but Harley is one of my favourite characters I’ve ever written,” Gunn revealed. “In fact, she’s probably my favourite comic character whose personality was well-defined before I wrote her for the screen. She’s an incredible companion to have while writing her insane actions and dialogue. Did I say I LOVED her?”

That’s high praise indeed, especially after he’s been given the opportunity to play in both the Marvel and DC Universes. The mention of “writing her insane actions and dialogue” is also of note, and set photots from The Suicide Squad have indicated that Harley will have a lot of big moments.

For example, she’s been seen wielding a bō while decked out in a huge red dress, and we know that the anti-hero is going to be rocking her iconic red and black hair from the comics too.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Director James Gunn Has No Plans For A Fourth Movie After VOL. 3

Image

Will James Gunn be done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? Well, the filmmaker hasn’t explicitly stated that, but it doesn’t sound like he’s particularly interested in helming a fourth instalment once he’s done with the threequel.

When one fan asked if he’ll return for another Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Gunn corrected them about claims he’d never helm a sequel before addressing where he stands with Vol. 4

“I absolutely never said I wouldn’t do a Vol. 2, as I planned to do a trilogy from the beginning if the first one worked,” the filmmaker confirmed. “I have no plans to do a [fourth].”

It definitely feels like the team’s story could reach its end with the next movie, but it’s also possible Gunn will allow another director to take charge of the franchise (after all, it’s hard to imagine Marvel Studios letting this profitable franchise sit on the shelf just because Gunn is done with them).

Warner Bros. has reportedly offered him his choice of superheroes from the DC Universe, so it’s likely he could return to that world after Vol. 3. However, there are surely more cosmic tales he could tell in the MCU which don’t necessarily involve the Guardians of the Galaxy.

What do you guys think?

Which heroes could join the MCU’s New Avengers?
Click the “Next” button below to find out!

10. Rocket

Rocket

Rocket joined the team in Avengers: Endgame, and he fit right in. Now, he’s back with the Guardians of the Galaxy, but it’s definitely possible that he could return to Earth in the not too distant future. After all, he was working closely with Captain Marvel when the Guardians were dusted, so Rocket could be one of the first heroes she turns to.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn has teased delving into Rocket’s origin story in the threequel, and he might need a break from his current team after dealing with that.

Plus, if Captain Marvel is going to lead this group of New Avengers against a Skrull invasion or something similar, a hero like Rocket could help bridge the gap between Carol’s team and the Guardians (leading to cameo appearances from the likes of Star-Lord and Groot as well).

9. Korg

Korg

On the surface, Korg seems like a strange fit for a group like The Avengers, but he would bring a comedic element to the team that no one is going to end up complaining about. We’ve seen Taika Waititi’s Kronan interact a lot with characters like Thor and Valkyrie, but watching him chatting away to Spider-Man or any of the other heroes listed here is something we’d love to see.

While he was used for comedic relief in Avengers: Endgame, don’t forget that Korg is also a badass warrior, and we’re sure he would have plenty to say about being made part of this team!

If Miek joins him, then that would be no bad thing. However, Korg getting the spotlight is a must, and who wouldn’t pay to see him taking out some Skrulls alongside Captain Marvel and co.?

8. The Wasp

Wasp

Ant-Man has battled The Falcon, joined #TeamCap, and travelled through time alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, so he’s had his chance to be a member of The Avengers and served them well. The Wasp, however, is itching to become an Avenger, so Captain Marvel bringing her into the fold just makes sense at this point.

Now, some will argue that Ant-Man should join her, but there are plenty of ways to have him be busy elsewhere. New Avengers could give Hope Van Dyne the chance to show off her powers in a very different setting, and allow her to do more than fight alongside her partner Scott Lang. After all, it was awesome fun watching her kick ass during Avengers: Endgame‘s final battle.

Evangeline Lilly’s strange approach to quarantining aside, The Wasp needs way more screentime in the MCU, and we can’t think of a better place for it than in Captain Marvel’s team.

7. She-Hulk

She-Hulk

The prevailing theory online is that lawyer Jennifer Walters (who reportedly specialises in superhuman law) will defend Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3 after Mysterio framed him for murder.

That makes perfect sense, and sets the stage for the She-Hulk series coming to Disney+ which will see her become a Gamma powered superhero. You have to believe Marvel Studios has big plans for the character from there, especially as the original Hulk was left badly injured after wielding the Infinity Gauntlet at the end of Avengers: Endgame

Seeing She-Hulk as a New Avenger would be something different, and gives the team a completely new Hulk who brings plenty of fresh ideas to the table following Bruce Banner’s memorable arc. If she has a pre-existing relationship with Spidey, we can see him recruiting Jennifer too.

6. Black Panther

Panther

T’Challa has never officially joined The Avengers, but we’re sure Okoye will recommend that he give it a try after the time she spent working with the group after his shocking disappearance in Avengers: Infinity War. Yes, he’s the King of Wakanda, but Black Panther is also someone who is concerned with protecting the entire world.

At the end of Black Panther, T’Challa set up a base of operations on the West Coast, so why not merge the New Avengers with the West Coast Avengers? It would be logical to move the team from New York, and assuming this film does deal with something along the lines of a Skrull invasion, the Wakanda’s hero getting involved isn’t exactly hard to believe.

In the comic books, Black Panther has a storied history with The Avengers, and it’s about time Marvel Studios explore that in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the not too distant future.

5. The Mighty Thor

Thor

We’re not expecting to say goodbye to Chris Hemsworth’s version of Thor anytime soon, but it definitely feels like Thor: Love and Thunder will serve as a passing of the mantle.

With Natalie Portman serving as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Mighty Thor, it only makes sense for her to join the New Avengers, especially as we’re talking about a team in desperate need of some female members. That’s not the sole reason we want to see her here, of course, as this version of Thor is an absolute badass (played by a tremendous actress).

A team like the New Avengers needs a heavy hitter, and while Captain Marvel is powerful enough, just picture a live-action team-up between her and Thor and try not to get excited!

4. Captain America

Falcon

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is going to introduce a new Captain America in the form of John Walker, but common sense says it will be Sam Wilson who ultimately wields the shield.

Anthony Mackie has pretty much confirmed that will be the case in multiple interviews now, and how can you have a team called the New Avengers and not include the new Captain America? He could easily lead the team alongside Captain Marvel, and it will be interesting to see Sam attempt to fill the void left by Steve Rogers given everything he brought to the team over the years.

After all, Steve’s legacy isn’t going to be easy to live up to, and that would add a fascinating subplot to this New Avengers film. Sam’s romance with The Mighty Thor would also be fun to see!

3. Black Knight

Black-Knight

Kit Harington is going to play Dane Whitman/Black Knight in Eternals, and rumour has it that he’ll get both his comic book costume and superhero alter-ego in that movie (which has been pushed back to 2021). Now, those of you who are familiar with the source material will know that Black Knight was a key member of The Avengers, so that’s bound to happen in the MCU too.

Will Sersi join him? Well, she was also a member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes alongside Black Knight – their relationship was a key part of the comic books at the time – and we definitely wouldn’t say no to seeing more of Gemma Chan’s character in this sure to be epic team-up.

However, should Marvel Studios decide to keep her in the Eternals franchise, the Black Knight making the leap to New Avengers is a must. Harington’s work in Game of Thrones was excellent (even during that disappointing final season), so him getting the chance to shine here would be amazing.

2. Shang-Chi

Shang-Chi

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is now coming our way slightly later than expected, and Simi Liu’s Master of the Martial Arts is now going to get the chance to shine in a prime May slot. However, even if the movie had been released in February, it’s hard to escape the feeling Marvel Studios has big plans for this character.

While we’re expecting his movie to get a sequel, Shang-Chi making the leap to the New Avengers franchise is a logical next move, and will ensure that fans get behind the hero in a big way.

After all, the last two Avengers movies helped establish quite a few different characters as ones to watch after having them assemble alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and Shang-Chi could be set up as a major player in the MCU if he helps repel a Skrull invasion of Earth!

1. Doctor Strange

Strange

Doctor Strange spent plenty of time working alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, but it’s fair to say he was a somewhat reluctant member of the “team.” However, now that he’s had a taste of teaming up with his fellow heroes, surely he would be open to doing the same again, especially if the fate of Earth is on the line?

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will likely establish the Sorcerer Supreme as one of the most important characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so a newly formed group like this turning to him for help makes perfect sense and sets the stage for some memorable alliances.

Strange and Spidey? Check. Strange and Captain Marvel? That would be cool. Strange and The Mighty Thor? Sign us up right now! Benedict Cumberbatch is a busy guy, but you have to hope Marvel Studios will find a way to make this happen, as he would be an invaluable addition for sure.

THE BATMAN: Matt Reeves Praises The Film’s Cast And Crew; Weighs In On Why A Billionaire Superhero Still Works

Image

All the Batman movies have brought something different to the table, but what makes Matt Reeves’ The Batman different? Well, The Daily Beast pretty much asked the writer and director exactly that during a recent interview to promote Amazon series Tales from the Loop

“The short answer is that it’s been going great,” the filmmaker said regarding progress on the film before it was shut down as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We have an incredible cast and crew that I love working with. I’m working with the director of photography who I shot Let Me In with [Greig Fraser], who I just think is immensely talented.”

“Bringing that partnership back to life has been incredibly exciting for me, and a lot of people whom I’ve worked with on other movies are back too. We’re all like a family making this movie, and it was going great. We shot about a quarter of the movie so far; we have three quarters to go. And when the time is right and it’s safe to do so, we’ll return to it.”

“Robert is a fantastic actor, and we have so many great actors in it! It’s been really, really exciting to go on this journey with them, and to feel like we are trying to do something different.”

Reeves was then asked about how Christopher Nolan’s movies were rooted in sociopolitical concerns, and whether it’s difficult to still make a billionaire superhero work in today’s climate.

“To me, that’s the joy of working with it,” he responded. “You use those surface elements of it, and you explore them in a way that, I feel, they haven’t been explored yet. Nolan had a brilliant take on them, and so did Burton. Everybody has a particular take. I wanted to do a Batman film where I was allowed to explore the things that matter to me.”

“All those aspects you’re talking about, they all fit within a context,” Reeves continued. “The movie that we’re making, which is now on pause, is absolutely made in the context of today. It doesn’t ignore any of that.” That promises to be very interesting, and it’s going to be very interesting seeing how the filmmaker goes about making his Batman stand out from the rest.

Are you guys excited for his take on the Dark Knight?

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Will Feature A Death Promises Writer And Director James Gunn

Image

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 doesn’t have a release date, but the anticipation is that it will arrive in theaters in 2022 or 2023. The team is expected to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder before then, but it’s a longer wait than expected, and one we can blame on Disney for firing James Gunn!

He’s been busy working on The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment, but Marvel Studios won him back, and the third Guardians of the Galaxy film is now next for the filmmaker.

Recently, Gunn held a live Instagram Q&A with fans, and was asked by a fan whether someone will die in the movie. His response? “Yes.” You might think that’s a big spoiler for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after Groot and Yondu’s shocking ends in the first two films, but perhaps it’s to be expected after Gunn’s recent comments about how deaths help up the stakes in his films.

With rumors swirling that Rocket’s origin story will be explored in this third chapter, there’s been a great deal of speculation that his story could come to an end, but there’s nothing to say this will be a major character, and even if some unnamed goon is going to be killed off, Gunn would be lying to fans here!

However, as if we weren’t already anxious enough about the film, we now have to fret about the A-Holes too.

THE SUICIDE SQUAD First Footage Could Be Released This Year As James Gunn Teases R-Rating

Image

Filmmaker James Gunn remains vocal on social media, and an Instagram Q&A with The Suicide Squad writer and director has resulted in plenty of fresh intel being revealed to fans!

Keeping fans entertained yesterday evening, Gunn was asked about a wide range of topics, and among them was the sequel’s rating. He’s already confirmed that the film’s rating has been decided on, and when asked whether it will end up with an R, he played coy saying, “Wait and see.”

An R-Rating seems likely, but Warner Bros. could decide otherwise after Birds of Prey bombed.

The San Diego Comic-Con was canceled on Friday, which means Warner Bros. will be unable to hold its normal presentation in Hall H. However, despite all the complications and delays caused by the coronavirus, Gunn tells fans that us seeing footage from The Suicide Squad this year remains “likely.”

That could mean a sneak peak will be revealed in July as part of an online Comic-Con showcase, something many fans are optimistic will be the case given how quiet things have been. Remember, trailers for films like Eternals and Venom 2 were expected to be online, but with so much uncertainty, that hasn’t proved to be the case, and there’s no sign of them now.

LUCIFER Season 6 Possibly In Jeopardy Due To Tom Ellis Contract Dispute

Image

While it seemed as though talks for a sixth season renewal of Lucifer were on the one-yard line a few weeks back, TV Line is now reporting that negotiations between star Tom Ellis and Warner Bros. Television have suddenly broken down, with the leading man allegedly rejecting the studio’s latest offer.

It was previously reported that Ellis had already finalized a deal for season six, so depending on the circumstances behind this latest development, there is a possibility he could be in breach of contract if he chooses not to honor his existing deal.

According to their sources, Warner Bros. TV has made multiple efforts to sweeten the pot for Ellis, but it looks like they’ve finally reached their tipping point. An insider said, “Everyone wants Tom to be happy, but there’s a limit, and it’s been reached.”

Despite the current controversy, it seems more likely than not that this situation with Ellis will ultimately be resolved as co-showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson have already closed their deals and the entire supporting cast is also expected to have their options picked up, although that is dependent on first closing a deal with Ellis.

It just now remains to be seen which side will concede first.

Meanwhile, Lucifer is slated to return for its fifth (and potentially final) season this summer.
