Meet Punchline: The Joker’s New Partner and the “Anti-Harley Quinn”

Meet Punchline: The Joker's New Partner and the "Anti-Harley Quinn"
Batman famously has the greatest rogues gallery in pop culture, so when there’s a high-profile new addition, it’s a big deal. And fans were suitably excited to get their first glimpse of Punchline—the Joker’s new partner in chaos—in February’s Batman #89, which has already gone back for a third printing.

THE ANGRY BIRDS Flies From Cell Phones To Theaters To TV For A New Animated Netflix Series

Image

After two moderately successful movies, The Angry Birds is coming to television in Angry Birds: Summer Madness. As the title implies, it will debut next summer (on Netflix, of course).

Developed by Cake and Rovio Entertainment, there will be 40 11 minute episodes in total and, as you can see above, Red, Bomb, and Chuck are getting a brand new look courtesy of an updated animation style. They will be joined by a new flock of characters, and Deadline has a description of the series!

The site notes that the show will follow the “tween birds at summer camp under the questionable guidance of their counselor Mighty Eagle.”

“Explosive antics, improbable pranks and crazy summertime adventures see the birds pushing boundaries and breaking all the rules while fending off the brash and obnoxious Pigs on the other side of the lake,” it continues, “who seem hell-bent on causing as much mayhem as possible!”

Whether this is the end for The Angry Birds on the big screen is unclear, but seeing younger versions of this adorable trio will definitely be a treat for fans and younger viewers alike.

Curtis Lelash, Director of Original Animated Series, Netflix said in a statement, “Angry Birds have been a true phenomenon for kids around the world and we’re excited to bring them home to the nest at Netflix where they will be angrier and bird-ier than ever.”

Universal Studios Extends Theme Park Closures From April 1st Until Later In The Month

Image

In news which most definitely should not come as a surprise, Universal Studios has pushed back its re-opening date in both Hollywood and Orlando from April 1st to April 19th.

The announcement about the closure of the theme parks came on March 12th, and the coronavirus pandemic has only worsened since then. Universal closed down the same day as Disneyland and Walt Disney World, so a similar announcement from Disney is quite likely imminent.

“We are extending the closure of Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood through April 19,” reads the statement released today, “as we continue to respond to current conditions and make the health and safety of team members and guests our top priority.”

Orlando has recently strengthened restrictions on public gatherings and social distancing, and the 2020 Olympics has already been pushed back t0 2021 due to COVID-19 concerns.

Part of Universal Studios’ decision could be tied to the recent death of a 34-year-old man who visited both Universal Studios and Walt Disney World and then tested positive for coronavirus just a few days later. Being safe instead of sorry is the right move, however, and these closures could stretch well into 2020 depending what happens in April and May.

THE WALKING DEAD Alum Danai Gurira Shares Emotional Message Addressing Her Departure From The Series

Image

Yesterday afternoon, we learned that The Walking Dead‘s finale won’t air until later in 2020 thanks to the coronavirus, and that was the latest in a series of blows to zombie fans. After all, it was only this Sunday when we were forced to say goodbye to Danai Gurira’s katana wielding Michonne!

The actress is moving on to bigger things, including Marvel Studios and Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther 2.

Sunday’s episode left the door open to Michonne making a return in AMC’s Rick Grimes film, as she was left alive and on the hunt for her former flame. The movie, which is the first in a planned trilogy, has no release date, but was confirmed for a theatrical release shortly after being announced.

The Walking Dead has lost nearly all of its original cast members, but that has led to fan-favorite Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) landing a huge pay rise as the new lead of the long-running drama.

Gurira is a great actress, so we can’t wait to see what she does beyond the Black Panther franchise.

THE BATMAN Director Confirms That Production Has “Shut Down Until It’s Safe For Us All To Resume”

Image

Along with pretty much every other major production, cameras recently stopped rolling on Warner Bros.’ The Batman amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis. At the time, we didn’t get to hear from anyone directly involved with the project, but director Matt Reeves has now shared an update via Twitter.

Ranking The 9 Movies In Warner Bros.’ DC Films Universe From MAN OF STEEL To BIRDS OF PREY

Responding to a fan’s query, Reeves confirmed that filming on the Dark Knight’s reboot has ceased temporarily, and they will resume once it’s safe to do so.

Yes, we have shut down till it is safe for us all to resume… Everyone safe for the moment, thank you for asking, and stay safe too… https://t.co/wDhlYtphlm

— Matt Reeves (@mattreevesLA) March 25, 2020

Unfortunately, he doesn’t give us any indication as to when that might happen. The initial shutdown was expected to last two weeks, but things have obviously escalated in that time, so we’re just going to have to wait and see how this miserable situation plays out.

Reeves had been sharing official images from the movie right up until the shutdown, but it might be a while before we see that Catwoman reveal fans have been hoping for!

For now, you can have another look at the director’s most recent shots of the Batmobile below.

Simply click on the next button below!

The Batmobile #1

Yes, this version of the Batmobile is definitely… a car!

Some fans were a little put off by this more realistic design because the past few iterations of the vehicle were so souped-up and borderline cartoonish, but, as Batman purists will no doubt be aware, The Caped Crusader has driven similarly minimalist Batmobiles in the comics many times. This particular take is reminiscent of Neal Adams’ design from the ’70s and ’80s.

The Batmobile #2

This next pic gives us a better look at Bats (Robert Pattison) standing beside the car.

The test footage did provide a detailed look at certain parts of the armor and we have seen those set photos of the stunt double, but this is the first time we’ve seen a full shot of Pattinson in the costume.

The reaction to this has been mostly positive, although some fans were hoping that this incarnation of the Batsuit would differentiate itself a little more from previous movie versions. It might have been cool to see those angular ears from the hero’s earliest appearances, at least.

The Batmobile #3

A closer look at what will likely turn out to be a homemade engine.

This is further evidence that Pattison’s take on the character will favor function over fashion, as it appears as if Bruce Wayne has basically just added a few bells and whistles to a standard muscle car. This is the Batmobile, though, so don’t be surprised if it’s hiding a few surprises for the bad guys somewhere.

What did you guys make of this first look at the Batmobile? Were you hoping for something different? Let us know in the comments.

ETERNALS: Scanline VFX Studios Confirms That They’re Working Remotely On The Marvel Studios Movie

Image

Hollywood has been hit hard by COVID-19, and not even superheroes are resistant to the pandemic.

Black Widow has already been delayed indefinitely by Disney and Marvel Studios, and there’s some doubt whether Eternals is going to be able to meet is planned November release. The VFX heavy movie has finished shooting, but it’s still in post-production and could be in need of reshoots over the summer.

There is, however, some good news today as one of the VFX houses working on the film has confirmed that they’re currently working remotely on that and other projects they’re attached to.

We don’t know exactly how much of Eternals Scanline VFX Studios is committed to bringing to life on the big screen, but if they’re able to work remotely, others are bound to be as well. So, this is definitely a positive update, but not one which guarantees that the highly anticipated origin story for these ancient superheroes will actually make it to theaters this winter as planned.

Instead, it seems far more likely that Black Widow will take Eternals‘ release date…assuming theaters have been able to open their doors by then (which is definitely the hope right now).

We’ll keep you guys updated as we learn more!
