BIRDS OF PREY & THE GENTLEMEN Will Release On Digital HD Next Week In Wake Of Coronavirus Pandemic

Image

Per a new report, and in an effort to provide some fresh entertainment to those currently quarantined across the globe, Warner Bros.’ Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) and STXFilms’ The Gentlemen have both moved up their Digital HD release dates from April to next Tuesday, March 24th.

While Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey was one of this year’s biggest box office disappointments as it grossed just over $199.1 million ($84.1M domestic; $115M foreign) on an estimated $100 million production budget, which was well short of its estimated $250M to $300 million break even number, Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen was one of this year’s most pleasant surprises, both critically and commercially. The film ultimately earned over $115 milion on an estimated $22 million production budget.

The news comes hot on the heels of Universal Pictures’ decision to make The Invisible ManEmma and The Hunt available for rent this coming Friday as well as making Trolls: World Tour available for rent on April 10, which was its original theatrical release date.

Disney also made its billion-dollar blockbuster Frozen 2 available to stream on Disney+ last weekend, well ahead of its intended streaming launch date, and have also made Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker available to purchase on all Digital HD platforms.

With the coronavirus pandemic currently showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon, it should be an interesting few weeks/months for the film industry as top studios debate the pros/cons of possibly launching some of their upcoming films on streaming platforms rather than give them their theatrical launches to mitigate losses during this troubling time.

However, with that said, it remains increasingly unlikely that potential major blockbusters like Black Widow, A Quiet Place Part IIMulanWonder Woman 1984Top Gun: Maverick and others will be pushed to streaming, as it would likely result in unprecedented losses for the respective studios. Pushing them to later in 2020 and/or to 2021 will likely remain the most viable option.

Big news tonight: #BirdsOfPrey and Guy Ritchie’s #TheGentlemen move up their digital release dates to 3/24 from mid-April. More coming soon, too. Stay tuned… https://t.co/1BmLhRmNUF

SUPERNATURAL: Sam & Dean Meet Sam & Dean In The New Promo For Season 15, Episode 13: “Destiny’s Child”

Image

With Supernatural having not yet filmed its series finale, it remains to be seen whether The CW will ultimately decide to shift around the rest of the already shot season to stretch out their April/May programming schedule until filming can resume, which may actually end up getting pushed back even further due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The network has already moved back episodes of The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, presumably to fill their spring schedule and it seems likely there will be more shifts to come this as they work to keep new content coming while knowing they don’t have finales ready for a number of their most popular series.

“Destiny’s Child” – (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-14, DLV) (HDTV)

DANNEEL ACKLES AND GENEVIEVE PADALECKI RETURN AS JO AND RUBY – A search for the one thing that may give the Winchesters an edge against God leads Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) to Jo’s (guest star Danneel Ackles) door and to a secret that may have died with Ruby (guest star Genevieve Padalecki). Amyn Kaderali directed the episode written by Brad Buckner & Eugenie Ross-Leming (#1513). Original airdate 3/23/2020.

The epic journey of the Winchester brothers come to a close as SUPERNATURAL enters its fifteenth and final season. GAME OF THRONES Actor Kristofer Hivju Is The Latest Celebrity To Test Positive For Coronavirus

Image

Former Game of Thrones star Kristofer Hivju is the latest celebrity to test positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).

The actor took to Instagram to share the news, revealing that he is currently self-quarantining in Norway with his family.

“Sorry to say that I, today, have tested positive for COVID19, Corona virus,” Hivju wrote in his post. “My family and I are self-isolating at home for as long as it takes. We are in good health – I only have mild symptoms of a cold.

There are people at higher risk for who this virus might be a devastating diagnosis, so I urge all of you to be extremely careful; wash your hands, keep 1,5 meters distance from others, go in quarantine; just do everything you can to stop the virus from spreading. Together we can fight this virus and avert a crisis at our hospitals. Please take care of each other, keep your distance, and stay healthy!”

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Director James Gunn Isn’t Interested In Helming A STAR WARS Movie

Image

After briefly being fired by Disney for past comments which resurfaced on social media, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn made the leap to the DC Extended Universe to take the helm of The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. Once work on that has finished, the filmmaker will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Vol. 3, but what about beyond that?

Well, another Suicide Squad movie or even Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4 are probably very likely possibilities, but we can now discount the possibility of Gunn working on a Star Wars movie.

During a recent Instagram Q&A, the director was asked if he was interested in working in a Galaxy Far, Far Away, and it doesn’t sound like that’s a universe he’s keen to explore. “No it doesn’t really interest me as a filmmaker,” he admitted. “I can’t think of any franchises I’d want to join other than the ones I’m already a part of.”

In other words, it sounds like Gunn is more than happy with working on Marvel and DC Comics movies, something it would be hard for any comic book loving director to complain about!

It’s also not hard to blame Gunn for wanting to avoid the apparent backlash which comes with working on a Star Wars movie; both J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson have been targeted by fans for disappointing them, while it’s no secret that Gareth Evans (Rogue One) and Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Solo) struggled working with Lucasfilm.

What would you guys like to see from Gunn once he’s done with The Suicide Squad and Vol. 3?

Regal Cinemas Announce Plans To Close ALL Theaters Until Further Notice From Tomorrow

Image

This is probably a sign of things to come, but Regal Cinemas has now confirmed plans to shut down all theater locations across the United States from Tuesday, March 17th for an indefinite period.

This is being done in a bid to halt the spread of the coronavirus, and as the second biggest chain in the country with 7,155 screens in 542 theaters across 42 of our great states, they’re the first of the big three to take such extreme measures. We can likely expect the others to soon follow suit.

Sadly, unless something drastic happens in the coming weeks, Black Widow will almost certainly be delayed because it’s not going to have any theaters to play in. Earlier today, President Donald Trump held a press conference and warned that the pandemic could continue having an affect on day to day life until at least July or August.

“Any time, at any Regal, it’s our goal to provide a safe and healthy environment for our employees and guests,” said Mooky Greidinger, Cineworld CEO to Deadline.

“At this time, we have made the difficult decision to close our theatres. We value our movie-loving customers and have no doubt we will be serving them again as soon as possible with a full slate of Hollywood blockbusters. The Cineworld Group and Regal Theatres are strong, standing on solid ground and our continued goal is to be The Best Place to Watch a Movie!”

This is sad news for film fans, and even sadder for Regal Cinemas employees if they’re not being paid during this period. We will keep you apprised of more closures as they happen.
