MULAN And THE NEW MUTANTS Have Both Been Postponed Indefinitely By Disney Due To Coronavirus

Image

With growing concerns surrounding the spread of the Coronavirus, Disney has now confirmed that Mulan has been postponed. The live-action adaptation of the classic animated feature was set to arrive in theaters on March 27th, but the studio is now looking to secure a release date later in 2020.

That’s not the only upcoming movie which has been impacted by the pandemic, though, as The New Mutants and the Guillermo Del Toro-produced Antlers are also no longer being released.

There’s no word on what will become of them, but the former seems like a good fit for Disney+.

The hit on the global box office could be as much as $10 billion this year thanks to the coronavirus, and the trade notes that Black Widow is still scheduled for May 1st. That could, however, change in the coming weeks depending on what happens (many states are enforcing bans on groups of more than 250 – 500 people gathering together in a bid to stop the virus spreading any further).

As of right now, it looks like we’re in for a quiet couple of months in theaters, and it’s added that, “there’s growing concern that some cinemas could go dark in areas where cases of COVID-19 are proliferating, or where business has slowed.” What the Coronavirus means for films currently shooting is hard to say, but at this rate, 2020 movies could arrive in 2021 instead of later this year!

The most important thing is that people stay healthy, of course, but this is bound to come as a crushing blow to those looking forward to the likes of Mulan and The New Mutants.

We’ll keep you guys updated as we learn more.

Dear Mulan Fans, Making this film has been one of the most satisfying and exhilarating experiences of my entire career, and I’ve been so fortunate to be on this journey with some of the best cast and crew in the business – people who truly embody the attributes of Loyal, Brave, and True. We are so excited to share this film with the world, but given the current ever-shifting circumstances we are all experiencing, unfortunately, we have to postpone the worldwide release of MULAN for now. Our hearts are with everyone the world over who is affected by this virus, and we hope that Mulan’s fighting spirit will continue to inspire those who are working so hard to keep us all safe. Thank you for all of your enthusiasm and support, and I can’t wait for the day where we will all get to experience this tale of a girl warrior who became a legend together #mulan #yifei_cc #loyalbravetrue With love, Niki Caro

SHANG-CHI Is Getting His Own Comic Book Series (And A New Look) Ahead Of Upcoming MCU Debut

Image

Marvel Comics has confirmed that Eisner Award-winning writer Gene Luen Yang (American Born Chinese) is teaming up with artists Dike Ruan (Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man) and Phillip Tan (Black Order) for a new Shang-Chi series. The hero will boast a new costume designed by artist Jim Cheung.

This comes ahead of the character’s live-action debut in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

According to the official description, “In this new series, Shang-Chi’s fight for justice will collide with his past. When the hero finds himself pulled back into the fold, no one will be ready for what will be unleashed. With a target on his back after the revitalization of his father’s secret society, the balance of power will shift in an epic tale of succession, family, and betrayal.”

This isn’t the hero’s first solo series, but with a movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the way, there’s bound to be a lot of interest in this fresh take on Shang-Chi.

Yang is clearly excited about the series as he says, “I mean, it’s Shang-Chi. He’s probably the most prominent Asian — I guess he’s Asian-American now since he’s moved over here — Asian-American super hero.” Pushed for details on the series, he added: “The basic idea that his father is a supervillain is still there. Zheng Zhu has been around a very long time. He has other kids besides Shang-Chi, so we’re going to explore some of those sibling relationships.”

What do you guys think about Shang-Chi’s new look?

Disneyland Announces Temporary Closure Of Theme Park In Anaheim, California From March 14 – UPDATE

Image

As the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) continues to result in event cancellations and film release date delays, Disneyland has announced that its California theme park will close starting March 14 through the end of the month

Disneyland Resort hotels will remain open until March 16 so guests can make necessary travel accommodations.

This is only the fourth time in history that this park has fully suspended operations. The other instances were the Sept. 11 attacks, the morning after JFK’s assassination and the Northridge earthquake. It’s unclear if Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., will remain open.

“While there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at Disneyland Resort, after carefully reviewing the guidelines of the Governor of California’s executive order and in the best interest of our guests and employees, we are proceeding with the closure of Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, beginning the morning of March 14 through the end of the month.

The Hotels of Disneyland Resort will remain open until Monday, March 16 to give guests the ability to make necessary travel arrangements; Downtown Disney will remain open. We will monitor the ongoing situation and follow the advice and guidance of federal and state officials and health agencies. Disney will continue to pay cast members during this time.

UPDATE: Disneyland has now announced that it was also close temporarily its parks in Florida and Paris:

In an abundance of caution and in the best interest of our guests and employees, we are proceeding with the closure of our theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Paris Resort, beginning at the close of business on Sunday, March 15, through the end of the month.

BLACK PANTHER Star Winston Duke Says “So Much” Of His AVENGERS: ENDGAME Fight Scenes Were Cut

Image

Winston Duke’s M’Baku stole the show in Black Panther, but had only very minor roles in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. In the latter, we saw very little of him in that final battle with Thanos, and the actor has now confirmed that much of his work ended up being cut by Marvel Studios.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Duke was asked about whether he shot with the rest of the cast or alone in front of a green screen.

“I shot with everyone,” he confirmed. “The raw footage was just so long with everyone that my stuff didn’t make it in. I filmed so much fighting for it, and I was really bummed to not see any of it in the movie [Laughs]. I did so many fighting scenes in Endgame during that final battle where they’re trying to keep the gauntlet away from Thanos. It was really cool.”

As for why he believes it ended being cut, Duke noted that he completely understands why that was the case. “Marvel knows what they’re doing, and it all leads to the best product. So, I am happy; I was just very disappointed that nobody got to see all the stuff I was doing.”

Duke, who is doing the rounds to promote Netflix’s Spenser Confidential (you can read our review by clicking here), was also asked whether Black Panther II director Ryan Coogler has told him anything about plans for M’Baku in th sequel. “Not a glimpse,” the actor admitted. “We’re just waiting to see where it goes. I’ve seen nothing, I’ve heard nothing, I haven’t been told a thing. I just trust that they’re going to invest in M’Baku and tell a really bold story.”

It’s certainly going to be interesting seeing where this character goes next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and you have to hope Marvel Studios one day releases those deleted scenes.

What do you guys hope the future holds in store for M’Baku?

Tom Hanks Reveals That He And Wife Rita Wilson Have Tested Positive For Coronavirus

Image

As coronavirus continues to spread (COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic earlier today), we have word on the first celebrities to go public with a diagnosis.

Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks (Big, Road To Perdition, Saving Private Ryan) has taken to social media to announce that he and his wife Rita Wilson have contracted the virus.

The couple began to exhibit symptoms while in Australia where Hanks is filming the Elvis biopic, and sought medical attention. Unfortunately, they both tested positive for COVID-19.

“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?

We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!”

This is all very surreal, but things are probably going to get a whole lot worse before they get better.

Shortly after Hanks shared his news, The NBA announced that the rest of the season is to be suspended after a Utah Jazz player also tested positive (more details here), and Donald Trump has now announced a 30-day suspension on travel from Europe to the United States.

There have been more than 115,000 cases of coronavirus confirmed worldwide, and the disease has killed more than 4,200 people.
