SPIDER-MAN Director Sam Raimi Confirms He Will Helm DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS

Image

Shortly after it was revealed that Scott Derrickson had walked away from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness over “creative differences,” we learned from the trades that Marvel Studios was eyeing Sam Raimi to take charge of the sequel. While it did already sound like a done deal, the filmmaker himself has now confirmed that he’ll be in the director’s chair.

During a recent interview with ComingSoon.net, Raimi mentioned working on the movie, and reflected on the Spider-Man 2 Easter Egg which actually referenced the Sorcerer Supreme.

“I loved Doctor Strange as a kid, but he was always after Spider-Man and Batman for me, he was probably at number five for me of great comic book characters,” the director explained. “He was so original, but when we had that moment in Spider-Man 2 I had no idea that we would ever be making a Doctor Strange movie, so it was really funny to me that coincidentally that line was in the movie.

“I gotta say I wish we had the foresight to know that I was going to be involved in the project,” he concluded.

It’s definitely good to know that Strange was in Raimi’s top five as a kid, and it’s fair to say that his love of the character will go a long way in making Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness a must-see. For those of you who may not remember, the Easter Egg he’s referring to here came when Ted Raimi’s Ted Hoffman suggests naming Otto Octavius “Doctor Strange.”

J. Jonah Jameson was quick to point out that the name was taken, and fans are now hoping that the hero’s trip through the Multiverse will take him to the world inhabited by Tobey Maguire’s wall-crawler.

Click on the “Next” button below to find out which
alternate realities we want to see in Doctor Strange 2!

10. Marvel Zombies

Marvel-Zombies

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness won’t be a full-blown horror movie, but it is expected to include elements of one. With that in mind, how cool would it be to be a visit to a world which has been ravaged by the Marvel Zombies?

If Nightmare is indeed the lead villain, then visiting a twisted universe like this one makes perfect sense. Plus, the likes of Captain America and Iron Man could return to the MCU without “retired” Avengers like Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. reprising the roles because, well, they’re undead zombies!

Visually, this would be really cool, and unlike anything else we’ve ever seen in this shared world.

9. Thanos’ New World

Thanos

Remember how at the end of Avengers: Endgame Thanos planned to use the Infinity Stones to create new universe where no one would remember what he had done? Well, while Iron Man’s sacrifice managed to stop that from becoming the new norm, there must be at least one timeline where his plan came to fruition.

Visiting an “idyllic” universe ruled over by the Mad Titan – who would no doubt viewed as a God – could be a lot of fun, and something that shows Strange what might have been had he not given Tony Stark that hint which resulted in him making the ultimate sacrifice.

Marvel Studios could take a reality like this to some truly twisted places, especially if we were to learn that what Thanos created wasn’t the paradise he imagined. After all, as many fans have argued, surely even a universe with half as many inhabitants would eventually run into the same problems as the old one?

8. 2099

2099

The 2099 Universe is mostly known for Spider-Man, but there are plenty of interesting alternate takes on our favourite heroes and villains in that timeline, and who wouldn’t want to see where the MCU is almost 80 years from now?

Whether it’s the new Hulk, Thor, or even Doom, it would be very cool getting a glimpse at the future. Yes, the highlight would obviously be seeing Spider-Man 2099, but Marvel Studios could easily reinvent this timeline to their own liking, and it would be a neat Easter Egg for comic book fans.

Marvel Studios could even use this to drop some hints about the future of this shared world…

7. Old Man Logan

OML

We’re happy to admit that the chances of us seeing Wolverine in a movie like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are slim, but the Old Man Logan timeline isn’t necessarily off the table.

Whether it’s seeing that freaky version of The Hulk that Mark Millar and Steve McNiven came up with or a world where Earth’s Mightiest Heroes were decimated by a massive team of villains, this bleak alternate future is one with plenty of potential…that James Mangold’s Logan failed to explore.

Honestly, though, we would definitely be hoping for at least a nod to Wolverine, even if it’s a shadowy figure wearing the hat and coat the hero donned in the comic books.

6. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man Universe

Raimi

Had Sam Raimi not replaced Scott Derrickson as the director of the Doctor Strange sequel, we wouldn’t have even thought about suggesting this. However, with the Spider-Man trilogy helmer working on this film, there’s surely no way we won’t meet up with Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker again, right?

Disney’s deal with Sony Pictures means Spidey is going to appear in a future MCU movie, but who said it has to be the version of the web-slinger played by Tom Holland?

Even if it’s a cameo as brief as The Watchers in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, this would be nothing short of spectacular, and just like Brandon Routh’s Superman in Crisis on Infinite Earths, we’d love to know what became of this Spider-Man after he beat Venom and Sandman in Spider-Man 3

5. Days Of Future Past

DOFP

Yes, this is another X-Men related future, and yes, we still don’t know when those mutants will make their debut in the MCU! However, there’s no reason this desolate future couldn’t factor into this highly anticipated sequel in some way, shape, or form.

“Days of Future Past” received some representation in Bryan Singer’s movie, but an argument could be made that it didn’t really do this timeline justice. Strange landing on a world full of internment camps, only to find himself surrounded by massive robot Sentinels, would be a cool nod that fans of the source material would definitely be able to get on board with.

Plus, if Strange gains some prior knowledge of what could become of mutants in the MCU, that automatically gives the Sorcerer Supreme a potentially very exciting role in their emergence.

4. Earth-616

Avengers

There are a lot of fun suggestions here but, honestly, this one would be a dream come true.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is a huge comic book fan, and seeing Strange arrive on an Earth strikingly similar to his own, albeit with some key differences would be epic. Marvel Studios would have to pull out all the stops in terms of cameos, but just imagine seeing Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, and more in their classic costumes!

Strange bursting into Avengers Mansion and facing off with the team would be a moment that could even rival that spectacular illusion sequence in last year’s Spider-Man: Far From Home

3. Otherworld

Otherworld

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is already looking like a very busy movie, but if Sam Raimi can find room for one more, than we would definitely be 100% on board with that.

Otherworld is the subconscious of the British Isles, and a small otherdimensional planetary body which is the home of all magic. With that in mind, it’s definitely somewhere the Sorcerer Supreme should visit, and him meeting Captain Britain would be a long-overdue, much appreciated surprise.

It might be hard to squeeze in, but Otherworld and Captain Britain would be effective additions.

2. DC Extended Universe

Flash

This is total wishful thinking, but stick with us a second! The Marvel Comics Universe frequently finds tongue in cheek ways to reference their Distinguished Competition (and vice versa), so Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could potentially do the same.

Sadly, we’re not expecting someone like Grant Gustin to show up as the Flash, but Strange could very easily reference coming face to face with a Caped Crusader, Man of Steel, and Scarlet Speedster.

This is by no means essential, but it would be a blast, and something that would both take full advantage of the premise of alternate Earths and give comic book fans a moment to talk a lot about.

1. Spider-Verse

Spider-Verse

This is admittedly unlikely, but assuming we’re going to take a trip through the Multiverse, is it really outside the ream of possibility that the Sorcerer Supreme could pass by the Spider-Verse?

Even if it’s a blink and you’ll miss it shot of Benedict Cumberbatch becoming an animated character as he passes by a countless number of different realities, it would be incredibly rewarding for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to pay homage to this Oscar-winning animated adventure.

Plus, we’re pretty sure Sony would be happy with some free promotion ahead of the sequel!

A QUIET PLACE Director John Krasinski Rumored To Have Taken A Virtual Meeting With Marvel Studios

Image

Could we see John Krasinski direct or star (or both) in an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe project? Geeks Worldwide reports that the A Quiet Place filmmaker recently took a virtual meeting with Marvel Studios, and a “multitude of projects” were said to be discussed.

Krasinski and Kevin Feige both said that they’d like to work together in recent interviews after being asked about the huge swell of online support for the former Office actor to play Reed Richards in a Fantastic Four reboot, so if they did have a little chat, it wouldn’t exactly be a massive surprise.

We have no way of knowing if the Mr. Fantastic role was even brought up, of course, but we do know that Krasinki is well aware that he’s a strong fan-favorite choice for the part, and has admitted that he would be interesting in portraying the character.

Marvel has yet to officially announce that a Fantastic Four reboot is even close to entering development, but this wouldn’t be the first time the studio settled on a cast member for a project that didn’t have a full creative team in place.

There are plenty of other possibilities, of course, and this is very much a rumor for the time being. What do you guys think? Would you be on board with John Krasinski as Reed Richards? Let us know in the usual place.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Director James Gunn Ranks The IRON MAN And THOR Movies

Image

Sonic The Hedgehog actor Ben Schwartz took to Twitter to discuss specific trilogy rankings, including Back to the Future and Indiana Jones, and GOTG director James Gunn replied with some rankings of his own.

You can see his response in the tweet below.

— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) April 13, 2020

Iron Man being the first pick is probably something most fans would agree with. It’s the movie that started it all, and it did so with high quality writing, acting, and directing. Ragnarok, which is also generally considered to the best Thor movie, was Gunn’s first pick, while Thor: The Dark World waddled in at last place. Again, most people would probably agree.

Along with his Iron Man and Thor rankings, Gunn added the American Pie series as well as The Bourne movies. It’s cool to see that the director keeps up with the other Marvel films. Even though it’ll be a long time from now, we’ll all be ranking his three Guardians of the Galaxy movies from best to worst in much the same way at some point.

What do you think about James Gunn’s list? How does your ranking of the Iron Man and Thor films compare? Leave your thoughts down below!

Disney Moves SOUL From June To November And RAYA & THE LAST DRAGON To March, 2021

Image

Disney has now delayed the theatrical releases of two of its upcoming animated features. Pixar’s “existential animated adventure” Soul has moved from its original June 19 release to November 20, 2020, while original fantasy film Raya and the Last Dragon has been pushed from November 25, 2020 until March 12, 2021.

This means that the untitled live-action Disney movie that was scheduled for Nov. 20 of next year has now been removed from the studio’s slate altogether.

Disney shuffled the release calendar for most of its upcoming films (Mulan to July 24, Black Widow Nov. 7, and Eternals to February of 2021) last month, and with Soul now joining them, there won’t be a major movie hitting theaters until the end of July.

These delays were pretty much inevitable given the current climate, and it’s clear that the major studios expect things to get back on track anytime soon. Even when restrictions are lifted and theaters are given the go-ahead to reopen, it’s going to take a while for the public to trust large gatherings enough to return to packed-out cinemas. It’s a shame, but better to be safe than sorry.

How have you guys been coping with quarantine? Drop us a comment in the usual place.

In this roundup, we have an interesting rumor relating to Black Knight’s (Kit Harington) costume in Marvel’s Eternals, news on a mysterious Netflix animated movie from Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski, Disney’s possible plans for a live-action remake of The Black Cauldron, and more.

Gore Verbinski Reportedly Set To Helm An Untitled Animated Film For Netflix

Gore Verbinski Exits Directing Channing Tatum's 'Gambit' – Variety

Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski has signed on to helm a new animated film for Netflix, according to Discussing Film.

We have no idea what the project will be about, but it’s said to be a CG animated film based on an original concept from the director, who will also produce.

Verbinski has previously helmed the likes of The Ring, The Weather Man, The Lone Ranger, the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and most recently 2016’s The Cure for Wellness. He last foray into the world of animation resulted in the well-received Rango.

Will WWE 2K21 Be Replaced By Another Video Game?

WWE 2K20 Cover Superstars Becky Lynch & Roman Reigns Usher In ...

Switching to the world of video games next, and we may have some disappointing news for fans of WWE’s 2K series.

After the lackluster critical and commercial reaction to 2K20, rumor has it that Visual Concepts and 2K Sports have cancelled plans for 2K21. However, a “different kind of WWE game from a different kind of game developer” is reportedly in the works as a replacement.

We don’t have any details on that game, but you can check out the video report for yourselves here.

Disney May Be Considering A Live-Action Remake Of The Black Cauldron

Is 'The Black Cauldron' (1985) available to watch on UK Netflix ...

It was recently revealed that Disney’s Robin Hood was next in line for the live-action treatment, but we’re hearing that the Mouse House may also be considering a new take on The Black Cauldron.

A notorious flop, the 1985 fantasy adventure has long been considered the black sheep of Disney’s animated library, but our source indicates that the studio may have decided to revisit the property amid renewed interest in the fantasy genre, and could look into re-adapting Lloyd Alexander’s The Chronicles of Prydain.

Whether that would be for the big screen or Disney+ is not clear at this point, but even if this is something Disney is considering, it sounds like it’s very early days.

The Black Knight Will Reportedly Sport A Comic-Accurate Costume In Marvel’s Eternals

10 Things You Need To Know About Marvel's Black Knight | CBR

Although we’ve only seen Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman dressed in civilian garb in the various Eternals set photos that were shared online, the character will reportedly don a comic-accurate Black Knight costume at some point in the Marvel Studios film.

The Direct reports that because pre-production was rushed in order to meet the movie’s filming schedule, digital elements will be have to be added to Harington’s outfit to complete the look in post. This wouldn’t be the first time Marvel has utilized CGI to enhance a character’s costume, but The Black Knight has sported several different costumes over the years, so “comic-accurate” takes on a much broader meaning in this instance.

Anyway, we assume it’ll be some combunation of a sword, a helmet and a cloak!

Possible Venom 2 Trailer Description

First Look At Woody Harrelson As Cletus Kasady In 'Venom 2' Revealed

Finally, we have a possible description of the first trailer for Venom 2, which is expected to debut at some point over the next couple of weeks.

The breakdown comes from a Russian site, so after being filtered through Google Translate it’s a bit all over the place, but you should be able to get the gist. Apparently, the teaser is quite Carnage heavy, and begins with Cletus Kasady terrifying some trick-or-treaters by transforming into his monstrous symbiote form. There’s also some Eddie Brock action, and a shot of Kasady being fired upon by the police right at the end.

Honestly, this sounds made up to us, but check out the full thing here and let us know what you think.

SPACE FORCE First Look Photos Introduce Netflix’s Upcoming Comedy Series Starring Steve Carell & Lisa Kudrow

Image

Academy Award-nominee and Golden Globe-winner Steve Carell (IrresistibleThe Morning Show) is returning to the world of comedy this summer with Space Force, an upcoming Netflix comedy series he co-created with The Office creator and former boss Greg Daniels.

While the series may or may not have been inspired in part by the real-life United States Space Force, the similarities will presumably end there as the show will tell an original story of four-star general Mark R. Naird (Steve Carell), who, instead of getting the promotion he was hoping for, finds himself tasked with leading the newly formed sixth brand of the U.S. Armed Forces: Space Force.

While undoubtedly disappointed, he’ll take the job seriously, moving with his wife (Lisa Kudrow) and daughter (Diana Silvers) to a remote base in Colorado where he along with a colorful team of scientists and self-proclaimed “Spacemen” will follow the White House’s direct orders to get American boots back on the moon as soon as possible, regaining total space dominance in the process.

In addition to the Carell as the headliner, the series will feature an all-star supporting cast consisting of John Malkovich (Billions; The New Pope), Diana Silvers (Booksmart; Ma), Tawny Newsome (BrockmireStar Trek: Lower Decks), Ben Schwartz (Sonic the HedgehogParks and Recreation), Lisa Kudrow (Friends; The Comeback), Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon ValleyCrazy Rich Asians), Noah Emmerich (The AmericansWhite Collar), Alex Sparrow (UnReal; Sin City: A Dame to Kill For), Don Lake (Terminator 2: Judgment DayZootopia), Jessica St. Clair (Avenue 5; Playing House) and Fred Willard (Modern FamilyAnchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy).

The series will premiere, with its ten-episode first season, on Friday, May 29.

A decorated pilot with dreams of running the Air Force, four-star general Mark R. Naird (Steve Carell) is thrown for a loop when he finds himself tapped to lead the newly formed sixth branch of the US Armed Forces: Space Force. Skeptical but dedicated, Mark uproots his family and moves to a remote base in Colorado where he and a colorful team of scientists and “Spacemen” are tasked by the White House with getting American boots on the moon (again) in a hurry and achieving total space dominance. From co-creators Carell and Greg Daniels (The Office), SPACE FORCE is a new kind of workplace comedy, where the stakes are sky high and the ambitions even higher. John Malkovich, Diana Silvers, Tawny Newsome, Ben Schwartz also star, alongside co-stars Lisa Kudrow, Jimmy O. Yang, Noah Emmerich, Alex Sparrow and Don Lake. Howard Klein/3Arts (The Office) serves as executive producer, with Daniels as showrunner.
