HARLEY QUINN: BIRDS OF PREY “Honest Trailer” Pokes Fun At The Lack Of Team-Up Action

Image

Originally titled Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), Warner Bros.’ latest DC Comics adaptation has come under fire from fans for not spending enough time to focusing on that team. In fact, the spotlight being on Harley Quinn in a movie that was billed as a “girl gang” team-up has been blamed by many for why it underperformed financially.

That’s just one of the points the “Honest Trailers” team focus on in this tongue in cheek look at the newly named Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, and they make a lot of very valid observations!

The R-Rating also proves to be an issue for them, as does the absence of Jared Leto’s Joker believe it or not. In fairness, though, the film definitely would have benefited from him making a physical appearance here rather than just being a stand-in and someone Harley talked about.

On the plus side, Ewan McGregor’s Ronan Sionis/Black Mask receives a fair bit of praise!

Love it or hate it, Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey certainly got fans talking, and there’s still a lot of excitement surrounding her return in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad next year.

Check out this “Honest Trailer” below:

Bob Iger Hints That More, Non-Blockbuster Disney Movies Will Head Straight To Disney+ Due To COVID-19

Image

Disney is lucky enough to have a new streaming service which has seen a massive surge in popularity since everyone found themselves stuck at home, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it makes sense for them to start putting the likes of Black Widow and Mulan on there!

We have, however, seen the studio make some unexpected moves by debuting the likes of Frozen 2 and Onward early on Disney+, while Artemis Fowl is set to skip theaters altogether.

Now, former Disney CEO Bob Iger has outlined some of their plans for Disney+ moving forward.

“There are some we’ve decided to put on Disney+. We already announced one, Artemis Fowl, that would have been released in theaters. Others we’ve simply delayed,” he explained. “In some cases we’ve moved things onto Disney+ faster than we would have. Frozen 2 was one of them, but Onward would be the biggest example. It was in theaters when this happened.”

“We moved to a pay-per-view period for a couple of weeks where people could buy it and own it,” Iger continued. “And then we ended up putting it on Disney+. In terms of movies going ahead after Artemis, there may be a few more that we end up putting directly onto Disney+, but for the most part a lot of the big tentpole Disney films, we’ll simply wait for slots. In some cases we’ve announced new ones already, but later on in the calendar.”

On Friday, Disney gave many of its upcoming films new release dates, but should theaters remain closed as we move into the fall and winter, there’s a chance they could make some drastic decisions when it comes to adding more content to Disney+. As it stands, they’re clearly considering adding more upcoming theatrical releases to the streaming service to keep subscribers happy.

After all, there’s now nothing to say the likes of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and The Mandalorian will meet their planned premiere dates after production on them was recently stalled.

We’ll let you guys know if we hear more!

The Next JUMANJI Movie Is Already In Development According To Director Jake Kasdan

Image

The original Jumanji movie was released in 1995, but 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle reinvented the franchise and proved to be a huge success. Last year’s The Next Level was also a hit, with a whopping $797 million at the worldwide box office and positive reviews

Despite COVID-19 putting Hollywood on hold for the foreseeable future, director Jake Kasdan – who helmed the reboot and its sequel – has confirmed that he’s working on a follow-up.

“We were just getting into the conversation before this global calamity and we will re-engage it as soon as everybody’s settled,” he said, confirming that the pandemic has slowed things down somewhat. However, he added that his hopes for the sequel are that it will be “exciting on its own two feet in a way that’s comparable to what the first two were for me.”

Before we get too excited, though, the filmmaker was quick to point out that he’s still in “the earliest days of trying to figure out what that would be.”

Most intriguing, though, is what he had to say about Jurgen the Brutal (Game of Thrones star Rory McCann). It’s previously been revealed that someone was playing as that character, and Kasdan noted that he “would love to” reveal that secret character in the next instalment.

Oh, and talking of Jumanji: The Next Level, those of you who live in the UK might want to keep an eye out for the Blu-ray when it’s released next week as it features a quote from ComicBookMovie.com!

Marvel Won’t Release Any New Digital Comics This Week As Diamond Comic Distributors Closure Continues

Image

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but CBR is reporting that Marvel Comics won’t release any new comic book titles digitally on April 8th. That means it’s the second week in a row the publisher has decided against that after Diamond Comic Distributors were forced to halt the shipment in new physical comics due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Last week, Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley noted that, “This is a fluid situation with details changing every day, so we appreciate your patience and understanding as we all navigate our way through this. As soon as more information is available, we will outline our longer-term plans and opportunities to support you and the industry.”

For now, it appears as if no firm decisions have been made, but this comes at a bad time for Marvel Comics as the upcoming Empyre event was expected to do well over the coming months.

Diamond Comic Distributors CEO Steve Geppi recently released a statement on the pandemic’s disruption of the market, and promised, “work with our publishing partners to develop programs that will address product already in the pipeline and what will happen when we resume distribution.”

It’s clear that physical comic books won’t be going on sale for a while (most comic book stores have been forced to close anyway), so we’re now forced to wait and see when it comes to whether the big two publishers – Marvel and DC Comics – will change tact and move to digital only sales for a while.

Are you guys missing your weekly comic books?

CAPTAIN AMERICA Actor Chris Evans’ Mother Convinced Him To Take The Role After He Initially Declined

Image

After over a decade of portraying Steve Rogers in The Marvel Cinematic Universe – and doing a damn fine job of it – it’s hard to imagine anyone other than Chris Evans in the role, but it very nearly didn’t happen.

In the buildup to the announcement that Marvel Studios had found its Captain America, the trades reported that it was far from a sure thing, and the actor had not committed to a deal. As it turns out, Evans actually decided to pass on the role until his mum had a word!

After a lengthy interview with the actor, Esquire writer Brady Langmann had a chat with Lisa Evans, and she shared a very interesting anecdote about convincing her son to play the Sentinel of Liberty.

“His biggest fear was losing his anonymity. He said, ‘I have a career now where I can do work I really like. I can walk my dog. Nobody bothers me. Nobody wants to talk to me. I can go wherever I want. And the idea of losing that is terrifying to me.’ … I said to him, ‘Look, you want to do acting work for the rest of your life? If you do this part, you will have the opportunity. You’ll never have to worry about paying the rent. If you take the part, you just have to decide, It’s not going to affect my life negatively — it will enable it.’”

It seems we all owe a debt of gratitude to Mrs. Evans! Be sure to check out the interview in full HERE.
