OBI-WAN KENOBI Reportedly Moves To 2022 As CASSIAN ANDOR Remains On Track For Next Year

Image

As we mentioned a little earlier today, the French version of Disney+ has issued a press release with details about the shows coming to the streaming service over the next year or two.

While it’s important to note that these dates may have been set in stone before the COVID-19 pandemic put Hollywood on hold, they still give us a potential idea of what Disney has planned. As The Direct notes, Obi-Wan Kenobi (which recently landed a new writer) is now pencilled in for 2022 after Lucasfilm decided to go back to the drawing board.

That gives the studio the chance to get the series right, and while this possible delay is a shame, the project is so highly anticipated that it’s far more important that they get it right.

As for Cassian Andor, that’s reportedly still on track for 2021, but the global pandemic could change those plans depending on when shooting on the series was supposed to kick off.

It was also recently reported that the Star Wars movie Disney has pencilled in for 2022 still has its release date, so Lucasfilm is clearly remaining hard at work on a number of projects. They’ve yet to reveal any specifics, of course, and we still have no idea who will take the helm of that.

As always, we’ll keep you guys updated as we learn more!

10 Ways The Marvel Studios And Disney Release Date Calendar Has Changed Due To The COVID-19 Pandemic

Image

Late last week, Disney finally accepted the inevitable and made some seismic shifts to its release calendar. As well as being forced to postpone big budget blockbusters like Mulan and The Jungle Cruise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was also hit with some major delays.

Now, thanks to COVID-19, the summer blockbuster season has essentially been cancelled, and that’s had ramifications which have affected both next year and 2022 (really!).

In this feature, we’re breaking down the biggest ways the Disney and Marvel Studios release date schedules have completely changed thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic, looking at those changes as well as what they mean for the future. We also delve into the Disney+ TV shows, and the movies which either have no release in sight or are skipping theaters altogether.

To check out this breakdown, all you guys need to do is click on the “Next” button down below!

10. Indiana Jones 5 Is Yet Another Year Away

Indiana

While Logan director James Mangold reportedly remains in talks to take the helm of the next Indiana Jones movie, it’s getting harder and harder to believe it’s going to ever happen.

Disney has had ample opportunities to make good use of the property since acquiring Lucasfilm, but now the release date has been changed from July 9th, 2021 to July 29th, 2022, the movie will be arriving in theaters just a couple of weeks after Harrison Ford’s 80th birthday.

That’s not the Indiana Jones fans remember, and it honestly feels like a full-on reboot would be a better option than a sequel at this point, especially now we’re forced to wait another year.

9. An Optimistic Release Date For Mulan

Mulan

Mulan has now been moved to July 24th, 2020, and that seems very optimistic on Disney’s part. Even if theaters are somehow back open by then (it seems doubtful), moviegoers are going to be reluctant to head back to them that soon, and that surely means the odds are stacked against the live-action version of the animated classic being a box office hit.

At this point, it wouldn’t be overly surprising for Mulan to be hit with another delay, and that begs the question of why Disney would decide to schedule it for as soon as July.

There’s no way a movie like this is heading to Disney+, and so it could easily slip into 2021 at this point. For now, though, Mulan could be the blockbuster that restarts the summer.

8. Black Panther 2 Is Coming As Planned

Panther

Despite all the bad news about Phase 4 being delayed (we’ll get to that a little later), there was one film which wasn’t hit by a delay. As of right now, Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther 2 is still set to be released in theaters on its original release date – which was announced at D23 – of May 8th, 2022.

Very little is known about the sequel, but Coogler remains hard at work on the screenplay, and rumours continue to persist about Michael B. Jordan reprising the role of Erik Killmonger.

The only cast members we do 100% know will return, though, are Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa) and Danai Gurira (Okoye), so it will probably be a while before any solid plot details find their way online. Regardless, it’s no great surprise that Marvel Studios is sticking with that prime summer release date.

7. Artemis Fowl Is No Longer Coming To Theaters

Fowl

When Disney shook up its release calendar on Friday, a press release was sent out confirming that Artemis Fowl will now be skipping its theatrical debut and heading straight to Disney+ instead.

“Director Kenneth Branagh and his spectacular cast take viewers right into the vibrant, fantasy world of the beloved book, which fans have been waiting to see brought to life onscreen for years,” Disney+ Content President Ricky Strauss said in a statement. “It’s great family entertainment that is the perfect addition to Disney+’s summer lineup.”

A release date hasn’t been announced as of yet, but some time in May seems likely. With so much negativity surrounding the movie, though (fans of the books really aren’t impressed by those trailers), it’s not like Artemis Fowl was ever going to make a huge impact at the box office.

6. Captain Marvel 2 Has A Release Date

Danvers

Before we get to the bad news, we thankfully have more good news for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Captain Marvel sequel has taken the slot previously held by an Untitled Marvel movie on July 29th, 2022, but has been brought forward slightly to July 8th, 2022.

It’s possible Captain Marvel 2 was going to originally arrive on February 18th, 2022, but that slot has been given to Thor: Love and Thunder, so there’s still a chance it was delayed.

We may never know, but however you look at it, 2022 has lost a mystery Marvel movie due to the changes that have been made to Phase 4. On the plus side, more Carol Danvers is no bad thing, especially if those rumblings about a Secret Invasion adaptation are accurate.

5. Soul Remains Unmoved

Soul

This is a weird one. Despite changing its entire release schedule, Disney has not delayed Soul. The Pixar movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 19th, and with it looking unlikely that even Mulan will be released as planned in late July, we’re finding it hard to imagine how Soul will still come out as planned when theaters will almost certainly be closed.

Onward‘s box office performance wasn’t quite as high as expected, and Soul looks good…but also kind of weird! In other words, it doesn’t exactly appear to have much mass market appeal.

With that in mind, the reason we’ve not heard about a delay could be because it’s going to arrive on Disney+ instead, and with the Marvel and Star Wars TV shows unlikely to arrive later this year as planned unless things change soon, this could be a smart move for the streaming service.

4. The New Mutants Remains Undated

New-Mutants

The New Mutants has already been delayed more times than we can count, so it wasn’t exactly the biggest surprise when it failed to debut in theaters this past Friday (in all fairness, that was never going to be possible given current world events). Now, it’s back to being undated.

It’s not the only Twentieth Century Studios film to fall into that category, though, as The Personal History of David Copperfield, Antlers, and Woman in the Window are also stuck in limbo.

In the case of The New Mutants, it probably can’t head straight to Disney+ due to an existing deal Fox had with HBO until 2022, so a VOD release seems most likely in the not too distant future.

3. A Big Phase 4 Release Date Shuffle

Thor

Hold on to your hats, because Phase 4 has undergone some big changes! After being postponed by Marvel Studios, Black Widow is now coming our way on November 6th, 2020.

That pushes Eternals to February 12th, 2021, the release date that previously belonged to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. That now moves to May 7th, 2021, forcing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to November 5th, 2021. The Doctor Strange sequel, meanwhile, has pushed Thor: Love and Thunder to February 18th, 2022.

As we mentioned, that was a slot previously reserved for an untitled Marvel Studios movie. There’s currently no word from Sony Pictures on what’s happening with Spider-Man 3, though.

2. The Jungle Cruise’s Year-Long Delay

JC

Starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, The Jungle Cruise (based on the classic Disney theme park ride of the same name) was shaping up to be one of 2020’s biggest blockbusters.

Unfortunately, Mulan‘s delay means that it’s now been forced to move to July 30th, 2021. It seems that Disney’s thinking was that they’re going to need big movies next year, especially with many of those supposed to be coming our way then potentially unable to start filming as planned.

In other release date news, Free Guy has slid from July 3rd, 2020 to December 11th, 2020.

1. There’s No Word On Marvel’s Disney+ TV Shows

WV

Unfortunately, even though Disney has now made its theatrical plans clear, we’ve heard nothing about what the studio has planned for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, The Mandalorian, and WandaVision. All three shows were meant to be released on Disney+ later this year, but they’ve inevitably been put on hold as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

If things change soon, then there’s a chance they’ll start streaming later this year (with only slight delays), but we can’t bank on that right now, and it’s hard to escape the feeling that bad news is coming.

For the time being, Disney no doubt wants to hold off on making any sort of rash decisions, but if these lockdowns and shutdowns remain in place for the foreseeable future, hard decisions will need to be made…that could be disastrous for subscriber numbers, however!

Disney+ France Press Release Lists LOKI For 2021, SHE-HULK And MOON KNIGHT For 2022, And More

Image

On Friday, the entire Phase 4 slate was delayed, and that’s left fans wondering what the deal is with the Marvel Cinematic Universe TV shows coming to Disney+. We know that work on the likes of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and WandaVision probably isn’t finished thanks to COVID-19, but it’s too soon to say whether they’ll meet their respective August and December premieres.

On a slightly more positive note, though, a press release shared to mark the debut of Disney+ in France seeming sheds some light on when many of the other Marvel TV shows are scheduled for.

Oddly, both Loki and What If? are listed for 2021, something which has already been confirmed for a 2021 debut by Disney CEO Bob Iger last month (they were set for Spring/Summer debuts).

Hawkeye is scheduled to also begin streaming in 2021 and Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Moon Knight all heading our way in 2022. Bear in mind that this press release was sent out by Disney+, so it would be strange for it to be riddled with errors, and we can likely trust this intel. We don’t know how much things have changed since it was written up, though, and so it’s best not to get too excited!

Still, it’s feasible that Loki and What If? will still arrive next year, especially work on the latter has been taking place for a while, and the former was well into shooting before the COVID-19 pandemic put Hollywood on hold.

Is Elizabeth Olsen Dropping A WanaVision Hint?

WandaVision Has Officially Wrapped For Disney+ And Mini Golf Was ...

We’ll star with an odd one. Avengers: Endgame star Elizabeth Olsen shared a video to her Instagram stories, and there’s speculation that she might be giving fans some kind of cryptic WandaVision tease.

In the clip, Olsen says she has something for “the Avengers fans out there,” before revealing the dates she planted certain things in her garden. There’s wild theories floating around about those strawberries and baby broccoli being code for Vision and Scarlet Witch, but we think she’s just having a bit of fun to be honest.

Have a look and see what you guys make of it.

Possible Update On Marvel’s Disney+ Series Delays

Why Marvel's Disney+ Shows Are Still So Far Away | Screen Rant

Production on Marvel’s Disney+ shows was delayed (along with pretty much everything else) due to the coronavirus, but we might have some idea when the studio is planning to get cameras rolling again.

According to a new report from Murphy’s Multiverse (via MCU Direct), cast and crew have been told not to expect to return to work any time soon, but that studio heads “have convened and began studying models” that might allow them to determine when production can recommence. Apparently, September is being targeted as a potential month to get things back on track.

M.O.D.O.K. In Ant-Man 3?

M.O.D.O.K. | Villain | Marvel

We recently found out Jeff Loveness had signed on to pen the script for Ant-Man 3, but it sounds like the Marvel threequel had another writer attached at one point: Paul Rudd!

The Scott Lang actor did receive a writing credit on the first two Ant-Man movies, and GWW.com reckons he wrote a full draft for the third entry which featured M.O.D.O.K. and AIM as the villains.

This report theorizes that M.O.D.O.K. could be Sonny Burch’s “mysterious benefactor” from Ant-Man and The Wasp, and may still factor into the next film.

Young Avengers

Rumor report: Will Ant-Man 3 drop an MCU bombshell?

In the same report, GWW mentions that Marvel has decided to include members of The Young Avengers in Ant-Man 3. Apparently, the original idea was to introduce The Fantastic Four (hmmm), but the studio has since “pivoted away” and settled on some incarnation of the teen-hero team.

Marvel is also said to be “taking pitches” from writers for a separate Young Avengers project.

The source is hit and miss, but introducing the Young Avengers in Ant-Man 3 would make sense, as the older version of Cassie Lang/Stature will almost certainly factor into the plot regardless.

Possible Venom 2 Trailer Description

First Look At Woody Harrelson As Cletus Kasady In 'Venom 2' Revealed

Finally, we have a possible description of the first trailer for Venom 2, which is expected to debut at some point over the next couple of weeks.

The breakdown comes from a Russian site, so after being filtered through Google Translate it’s a bit all over the place, but you should be able to get the gist. Apparently, the teaser is quite Carnage heavy, and begins with Cletus Kasady terrifying some trick-or-treaters by transforming into his monstrous symbiote form. There’s also some Eddie Brock action, and a shot of Kasady being fired upon by the police right at the end.

Honestly, this sounds made up to us, but check out the full thing here and let us know what you think.

JUSTICE LEAGUE Star Ray Fisher Teases Cyborg’s Big Screen Future And Reveals Whether He’s Seen The Snyder Cut

Image

We recently delved into the fact that the solo Cyborg movie was supposed to be released this weekend after being announced in 2014, and the character’s big screen future now remains as uncertain as it has been since Justice League arrived in theaters. While there have been rumblings about an appearance in The Flash, it sounds like actor Ray Fisher knows something we don’t!

During a recent Twitch stream, Fisher teased fans by saying, “I know there are plans in the works. How privy am I to those plans? I cannot say.” Could it be that the door is still open to a team-up between the Scarlet Speedster and Cyborg?

You have to believe it’s possible, but it feels like nothing is ever set in stone with the DCEU!

When talk turned to Zack Snyder’s “Snyder Cut” of Justice League, Fisher admitted that he hasn’t seen that fabled version of the DC Comics adaptation, but he knows that it does indeed exist!

“Timing-wise, I don’t think things have really worked out,” Fisher said about why he’s never been able to watch it. “There was one point in time where I was supposed to watch it, but some stuff came up and unfortunately it was not an option for me. Who knows? I might see it soon.”

Snyder and Fisher remain supportive of each other on social media, so chances are the door is open to him getting to see Cyborg’s original story arc for himself somewhere down the line. Now, we just have to continue hoping we’ll receive a similar opportunity in the not too distant future!

BLACK WIDOW: Kevin Feige Says The Movie Will Fill In Some Of The Gaps In The Infinity Saga

Image

Black Widow was recently delayed due to COVID-19 concerns, and the movie is now set to be released in Eternals‘ November slot. That’s obviously disappointing, but it’s good that it finally has a release date, and we now just have to hope that it’s able to meet it as planned despite current world events.

During an interview with Total Film Magazine (via Screen Rant), Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige dropped more hints about what fans can expect from the first Phase 4 movie, and pointed to it filling in some gaps in the Infinity Saga’s storied history…specifically those between films!

Acknowledging that they have “hinted at [Natasha Romanoff’s backstory] throughout all the other films,” he promised that “we approach it in a completely unexpected way” in Black Widow. He even explained that, “She’s been up to a lot all along – in between when we see her in the other movies – some of which will be surprising to people.”

It’s no secret that Black Widow takes place between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, but it sounds like those won’t be the only movies this one revisits.

The events surrounding Iron Man 2 seem likely, of course, but Black Widow must have also done a lot in the time between Captain America: The Winter Soldier (where she exposed many of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s secrets to the world) and Avengers: Age of Ultron. It seems we’ll just have to wait and see for now.

Original DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Director May Have Met With Natasha Lyonne

Image

Due to “creative differences” with Marvel Studios, Scott Derrickson recently decided not to direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Instead, Spider-Man helmer Sam Raimi is taking charge of the Sorcerer Supreme’s next solo adventure, but one of Derrickson’s ideas might have been revealed!

In the Tweet below, he drops some major hints about meeting with actress Natasha Lyonne about “the multiverse,” and something tells us the plan was for her to potentially take on the role of Clea.

A female Nightmare might have also been interesting for the Orange is the New Black and Russian Doll star, but now Derrickson is no longer attached to the Doctor Strange sequel, chances are Marvel Studios and Raimi will head in a different direction when it comes to the casting process.

Lyonne is a real talent, however, and adding the eclectic actress to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s hallowed halls would have been no bad thing. In the Multiverse of Madness is thought to be undergoing a rewrite since Raimi boarded the project, so we don’t even know how many of Derrickson’s ideas will be left on the cutting room floor by Kevin Feige by next November!

Quentin Tarantino Reveals Why He Never Made His LUKE CAGE Movie Starring Laurence Fishburne

Image

As you may have heard, filmmaker Quentin Tarantino was once considering directing a Luke Cage movie. Based on the classic Hero for Hire comic books, it likely would have been inspired by blaxploitation movies similar to Jackie Brown, but it never came to pass. Now, the director has expanded on his decision not to make it, and it has nothing to do with any sort of creative issues.

During a recent conversation with Amy Schumer, Tarantino explained that rather than clashing with Marvel Comics or anything like that, it was his friends who ended up talking him out of it!

“All my friends were like, ‘No, no, no, man, it’s got to be Wesley Snipes,’” Tarantino said, explaining that they disagreed with his casting choice of Ant-Man and The Wasp star Laurence Fishburne. “And I go, ‘Well look, I like Wesley Snipes, but I mean, Larry Fishburne is practically Marlon Brando. I mean, I think ‘Fish’ is the man.’”

To give you some context of how long ago these discussions took place, the director added that his Luke Cage idea came between Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Ultimately, his friends believed that Snipes had the better physique, not to mention the required star power.

Ultimately, Tarantino could only see Fishburne as Luke Cage, but after his friends convinced him otherwise, it seems he just gave up on the project altogether, and that’s why it didn’t happen.

There’s no denying that it’s interesting to think about what might have been, though…

BIRDS OF PREY Director Cathy Yan Has Plans For A Sequel Exploring Harley Quinn’s Relationship With Poison Ivy

Image

Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey didn’t make the biggest of impacts at the box office, but as it now looks to find new life on VOD platforms, director Cathy Yan has told The Wrap that she already has an idea for a sequel should it happen. It’s obviously very early days on that front, but this is something bound to get comic book fans excited.

“I would love to see Poison Ivy and I would certainly love to see the relationship between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy,” the filmmaker told the trade, explaining that their romance would be a big part of the follow-up. We’re not sure where that leads the Birds of Prey, of course, but those are characters who will presumably headline their own spinoff somewhere down the line.

Asked whether she thinks a sequel revolving around Harley Quinn will actually happen, Yan added: “I don’t know — I think people aren’t ready to let go of Harley Quinn quite yet and you know, Margot I don’t think is ready to let go of Harley Quinn yet either, so… hopefully.”

The character is, of course, set to appear in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, so we are going to see more of her before too long. Given the somewhat standalone nature of the DC Extended Universe these days, though, it’s doubtful that the return of Task Force X to the big screen will do much to set the stage for whatever Warner Bros. has planned next for Harley Quinn.

It would be no bad thing to see Yan get the chance to explore Harley’s budding romance with Ivy, though, and we’ll just have to keep our fingers cross that happens somewhere down the line.
